Check out the link in the news.

The box art is puffy turtle old skool. I wish they used Toei's design's from the first episode or just remade the original box art for the VHS "Heroes on a Half-Shell" but this is good none the less. It's pretty much guarenteed that the DVD will be under the Family Home Entertainment banner, just like the old VHS were.

It looks like the new disc will 10 bucks!

Given that... I don't think it's gonna be all five episodes of the first season. And because Artisan previously annouced that they would include 4 bonus episodes on the initial release, I suspect that they are putting out two discs. 1 will have episodes 1-3 and the two bonus episodes and the other will have episodes 4-5 or 4-6 (basically covering the first three VHS releases if they did this but the next episode isn't part of the first arc) and the other 2 bonus episodes. Then possibly they will make a collectors box with both discs (still in their other boxes) and make that 20 or so dollars. Either way I'm going to be buying anything they put out. April is far too far away...

1) That cover art looks extremely disappointing.

2) Why does it say there will only be 2 unaired eps?

3) ONLY $9.47???????? CAN'T BEAT THAT!!!!

The DVD Empire website has the box art, but Toon Zone does not. That's why I would like it if someone posted the picture on the forums.

The link says it includes 2 never before seen episodes, and the running time is 93 minutes.... So it can't be the full miniseries, or even epic begins... I really hope they didn't decide to split up the first season. As for the cover art, nothing special. they should have used the Toei desings.

Hmmmm...I'll wait until Amazon lists it, and then I'll see about pre-ordering it.the running time is 93 minutes.... So it can't be the full miniseries, or even epic begins...Epic Begins was only about 72 minutes. And 5 episodes of around 20 minutes each is around 100, give or take a few minutes on each episode. The eps will probably be shown only with the actual episode material, not including the opening title (as in the opening theme) and ending credits. The opening title will probably only be used for the introduction to the DVD before the menu. At least that's what I think.

That cover is... ugh. Not bad-looking, per se, but those cuddly-wuddly TMNT designs have always inspired some cynical, grumpy expressions from yours truly. Something more in tune with the style of the original miniseries would suit this package better, if y'ask me.

But I suppose what's actually on the discs is what's important.

93 minutes? That can't be right. At least the box art is original instead of them re-using one of the old vhs covers. I doubt the runtime is correct, until Artisan posts a full one I don't believe it because before official info by the company is posted the runtime is not correct. I've ran into this before with certain things.

The box art isn't that bad. It's nothing spectacular, either. I'm surprised with the 93 minute length, though. It can't be the entire first season...nor the 'Epic Begins'. We'll just have to wait and see. The price is nice, though.

Yes I know all that. Thats why I said it can't be the full miniseries or the "Epic begins" if it has 2 unaired episodes as extra.Of course, who says the unaired episodes are counted in with that running time? Do the backs of other DVD boxes combine the time of all the other bonus material in with the running time of the movie/show itself? Of course not. If the running time for the bonus material is included, it's listed separately, and I don't think a website would go through all the trouble to include the running time for the bonus material, all the customers need to know is how long the featured material is.

That's what makes the most sense to me, at least. I guess we'll just find out when the time comes.

About the box art once again, I would've been much happier if it displayed the turtles with a more serious demeanor and less goofy look to them, the way they looked in the original opening title, in other words. Either that or have a really cool shell design.

If they're gonna release them in boxed sets, they should be sure to include some kind of captioning such as this: "THE ORIGINAL CARTOON SERIES

*insert original toon logo here*

THE COMPLETE NTH SEASON"

Think of how other TV shows are released in season sets today, you know, basically the same look with the exception of text or border color. Think of how the boxed sets for Star Trek TNG are released to get an idea of what I mean, only modified to fit TMNT.

I know it doesn't seem like much, but I'll try and explain why the design looks good. Simply put, it's the same design some of the VHS tapes had from Family Home Entertainment.

If anyone ever bought Volumes 1-4 or Volumes 5-8 in the box set of the old cartoon, the design on the box very closely resembles the artwork here on the DVD. Same thing with the four volumes of the "Hollywood Dudes" series, for example.

Check out some of the box covers on this site and do a comparison:

http://www.technodrome.com/images/vhs/

So, even though it may not be exactly what you wanted, it's keeping very much in line with the artwork Family Home Entertainment came up with over 10 years ago for their video releases. And I, for one, am very happy with the design.

If the unaired eps would be considered as DVD extras and not included in the running time, it would make even less sense. Episodes 1-4, without intro and outro are 21 minutes long and episode 5 is 19.5. So the full miniseries is around 104 minutes long.

I don't think it sucks. We have to remember that the old TMNT was very kid friendly, happy, and puffy. I'd prefer a more generic pic but this'll do. I need more colorful DVD's anyway... most of mine (the box art) looks so boring.

I kinda wish they had used the boxart for Heroes in a Half-Shell. It was awesome other than the orange (toy) weapons.

I still think its three episodes plus the bonus ones and they'll do two volumes for season 1.

NEWS on the Classic TMNT DVD

In my most recent letter to the project supervisor for the TMNT project at Artisan, she had this to tell me:

"Thank you for your interest. We will be releasing the first five episodes on DVD and VHS. The DVD will also include 4 never-seen episodes. If you have any additional questions, please let me know."

Actually it was, just not as much as the later seasons up until the "Red Sky Episodes" when things got more serious again.

The pilot is so great because while it was kid friendly it still had some deepness to it and some terrific writing. Leo's voice wasn't whiney, Mike still had his chucks, the Shredder wasn't a pansy yet, Krang was menacing, and Bebop and Rocksteady weren't complete morons yet.

DVDEmpire is wrong. "The DVD was initially going to have two never seen episodes. That is likely why the site you a referring to is referencing only two. We are now including 5 episodes (Season One), plus four never seen episodes." said Artisan.

By the way, that also isn't the cover art. That's a mock-up cover that DVDEmpire threw together. Not official DVD art. David Lambert from TVShowsonDVD.com had that news. :)
I betcha the 92 mins are for the 5 "main" eps, and the unaired eps are considered "bonus" so don't figure into the running time. That's my guess.

Gord is verifying about the 4- vs 2- unaired episodes thing, but we think DVDEmpire has it wrong. Others have reported 4 extra eps, too.

Nor is that art at DVDEmpire the cover art. They made up their own temp art, like they've done for lots of other DVDs prior to official art releases (X-Files Season 8, anyone?).

Read the link he posted, they were picked because they didn't air in many areas. I still don't like the choices, since they could have been included on a Season 10 DVD. Plus the fact they skip several of the Season 10 episodes. Basically the ones that include Shredder. Likely because they figure Season 10 wouldn't sell as well, if they included the Shredhead episdoes as bonus episodes. :)

Well, here's my 2 cents about everything....

cover art It's as well as could be expected since they are the iconographic 1980's toon turtles. I would loved to have seen something better, like a Boxed set with the exterior looking like a Shell on both front and back covers with the TMNT logo and "The original seires" underneith. And the 2 disks inside would have reused cover art.

None the less, I think it's a good cover... you people obviously haven't seen the cover for the Ed Sullivan presents Muppet Magic DVD.... talk about eye sore. It's what's inside that counts...

With that said

Unaired episodes Bitter disappointment. The Lord Dregg episodes deserve to be forgotten! I like Jeffery Scott, but he worked better with Muppet Babies than Ninja Turtles... I actually have his book and the entire script for "Mobster from Dimention X" in it... the plus side is I can see what was taken out. But after Rob Paulsen stopped performing the voice of Raph, that's when the series ended fo me...

On the other hand, it's a nice "Alpha and Omega" collection featuring the first and last episodes of the series.... plus, I really didn't get to see them the first time around, so they'll be all new to me.

Splinter

Dr. Tooth, that's not the official cover art. That's DVD Empire's mock-up of the art. Re-read the link. Also the last episode of the series isn't include. Season 10 was 8 episodes. They included 1,2 and 6,7. :)
We also inquired about the "cover art" shown at DVDEmpire, and were told that what is shown there is NOT anything the studio provided. "Artwork hasn't been finalized yet," was the official word we got (but we were promised it will be "sweet").

I could tell it was a Mock up, actually... and I forgot to check up on the TMNT official site episode guide... but It's still First and Last season... I actually like it, being an "Alpha Omega" compilation.

Personally I could care less about cover art... If I wanted cover art, I'd go to some web site and print it out for free. I just want to see how it looks when it's being played.

Even if it's in a nondiscript black container with a little piece of Masking tape that says "Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles ep 1-5 + more" on it (noticce I purposely wrote the title wrong) I wouldn't care...

Though I don't buy DVDs for cover art alone, I do feel that a good-looking cover will influence my decision. Given what I saw on DVD Empire, I WOULDN'T buy that. Maybe if they used the actual cartoon art to some degree instead of the SHNT (Shiny Happy Ninja Turtles)!!!!

I wonder how far they will go with this DVD series... do you think it's a possibility that they will continue to release DVDs with every episode from all 10 seasons? I'm just trying to think of the next DVD and how long it would take to release the next set of episodes from season 2... could take quite some time unfortunately.

Well, obiously not all ten seasons since the 10th is "unaired" but the other nine would be real sweet

And, once more for good measure, the best bit of news...

We also inquired about the "cover art" shown at DVDEmpire, and were told that what is shown there is NOT anything the studio provided. "Artwork hasn't been finalized yet," was the official word we got (but we were promised it will be "sweet").

DVDEmpire, it should be noted, has a long-standing habit of posting temporary art for many of their DVD pre-order listings, rather than leaving the art area blank like most other websites do. Here at TVShowsOnDVD we recall a similar occassion with DVDEmpire doing this for The X-Files - Season 8, which caused a lot of confusion among readers. It is unfortunate that DVDEmpire doesn't label these as "temp art" or "unofficial", but the sure thing is that you can disregard that illustration they've currently posted.
WHEW. That was a close one.

I never understood why it is called "Shredder & Splintered".. it doesn't make any sense! Even on the original vhs tape, coloring book, comic book, etc. it is called "Shredder Is Splintered".. geesh what a crazy mistake!

Have 4 episodes from season 10 seems a little too soon.

The 2 seasons are like begginning to the end. Even though I don't know much about Dregg since he's like a replacement of Shredder.

9 out of 194 is 185 episodes remaining to be on DVD.

but I'll still get it, It's either DVD or No DVD.

9 out of 193 you mean. I don't think they're going to release a blank episode that says no episode 76 due to re-numbering.

Well atleast season 1 is being released on DVD along with 4 unaired(final Season) episodes. I hardly remenber some of the episodes, I can think of 5 i've seen on TV and 3 I seen on the computer.

This DVD will be on my DVD get list.

This is stupid...Those so called "Unaired episodes. I have seen them all on Dutch television back.
The change is now big that not al seasons will be aired on DVD. Cause when season 10 (it has aired here in Holland) come out you'll then have the unaired episodes twice.

They are putting 4 season 01 eps on a season 1 DVD, it doesnt make sense.

For me the only true unaired episode is "Shredder in Love" which truly hasn't been by anyone yet. Which is probably that episode 76
( the numbering error thing) Let me hear your opinion on that!!!

Other then that Im gonna buy the DVD anyhow. So I'll just stop complaining right?

Season 10 is not unaired! It was aired in its entirety on CBS! I know, I watched it! This is so frustrating for me...

They aired in some markets only. I know in mine, we never even got to Season 10. They stopped showing turtles here, around season 8. So I've never seen all of the episodes. :)

yes but to call them never before seen episodes is a huge lie...many of us have seen them and you know me i love dregg and mung so you know i've seen those episodes and for instance the episode where dregg has shredder and krang help captive the noise krang makes is just freaky I honestly felt bad for those 2 then more so then i did the tmnt being held captive lol....but anyways they should have called them rarely seen not un aired...because they were....I know its not allowed but hell I could send everyone tapes of these episodes....I mean there not rare or unaired...
le sigh but I am happy to get them they should just call them something else...

I'm not complaining...but I bet everyone will be once they realize how dumb it is to put the last season on the dvd because now I am pritty sarn sure of it that we wont be getting anymore....I made my point before that they should not be calling them unaired episodes when they are and I think it is a very valid point....complaining or not.
but people are going to feal a differnt way no matter what..
you can't make people all be or look r feal a certin way we are all differnt and thats what makes people beautiful. you know what i mean vern hehe.
I'm not complaining I guess I'm just more let down. I'd honestly rather not have them if they arnt done correctly and the episodes are given the respect they deserve but perhaps I just dont care because I tape all the episode while growing up lol. so I guess I'm just lucky to have them all and can watch them any time I want.

I recorded all the episodes off of TV as well and would also prefer a better release of the episodes. As I mentioned before, the last season was 8 episodes. Put them all on the same disc and then sell them. Hell, if they did that I wouldn't even care if they called them unaired.

Here's another reason to love the DVD. Most of us have seen the dvix episodes, most of us have seen the old VHS tapes, and some taped it back in the day. The dvix are low quality, the VHS are so badly degraded that it's hard to watch them due to their age, and the ones we taped ourselves suck due to lod VCR's sucking so badly. This DVD of Season 1 is going to rock because it's coming off of the master tapes. The quality of TV broadcasts sucked back then, and TV's wern't that great either. Imagine watching the first episode of TMNT in digital quality, on a widescreen plasma TV, with Stereo processed sound. We ain't getting Dolby, but they didn't have (or would ever back then) that then in animation. Even it you watch it on a 13" portable TV, it will still look better than when it originally aired. That's why this DVD is so cool.

Don't get me wrong...I'm wanting this as much as the next man, but I can still have my nitpicks about it, can't I?
