Both cartoons of TMNT had very different versions of Baxter Stockman.

Old Toon: To start with the obvious, this Baxter is white rather than African-American in the comics, and is a blond geek looking for business. He builds a mouser robot but on one is interested in picking up his option, no one except The Shredder. After the mousers are defeated, Baxter is taken to a mental hospital where he becomes insane. The Shredder busts him out to help him try to defeat the turtles. When sent to Dimension X, Krang immediatly declears Baxter's execution. Baxter is put into a dDisintegrator Chamber, where he would have been killed had not a fly been in there with him. The two speicies are cross-mutated together, creating Baxter Stockman AKA The Fly.

New Toon: Obviously, here Baxter is no push over, and is no small timer either. Baxter founder and CEO of the Stocktronics corperation develops an army of mouser robots, presumibly for cleaning up the cities rat problem. When his lab assistant, April O'Neil learned too much, he programed the mousers to kill her. The mousers failed Shredder, so Baxter lost his left eye to Shredder. Shortly after The Foot had uncovered a Utrom android from the water, Baxter developed the Foot Tech Ninjas using the research he obtained studying a tiny sample from the android. The Tech Ninjas also failed, and Baxter lost to Shredder not only his left arm, but his ability to walk. Baxter managed to get on Shredder's good side by prsenting a 'fulse' report of the TMNT's death, and he recieved the Utrom body as reward. Studying the Utrom, Baxter gained enough research to transform himself into an gigantic cyborg.

Two different personalities, two different fates. Which one do you prefere?

Cyborg. Old Baxter got annoying after 2 episodes, especially his voice. It grated on my nerves.

Black Baxter's cooler. But as for fates go... Baxterfly got better luck. He could always find someway to turn back to a normal human someday... but the cyborg one is just a head in a spider robot... ack...

The original Baxter, easily.

The Fly was all in good fun, but ultimately he was more annoying than anything. Cyborg Baxter is the dangerous lunatic he was meant to be.

IMO, the new Baxter's voice sounds like he's overdoing the part and sounds so fake and cheesy. While the older Baxter's voice may have sounded annoying and "grating", at least he didn't try to melodramatically claim that he was the greatest scientist in the world, nor did keep referring to himself egotistically in that "I, Baxter Stockman [blah blah blah]..." tone.

Original Baxter is an ego maniac and toally insane, so the voice suits him perfectly.

The new Baxter's mighty ego is probably based on the character Adonis Cnut in the TV series, Believe Nothing.

New baxter, but I got annoyed with his constant "You made it all possible shredder" over and over in return to new york 3.

In the old toon, after being mutated Baxter wanted revenge on both the turtles and shredder. Sound firmiliar? I just wish they had kept it that way rather than having shredder sway him so easily.

But the real question is, what happened to Stocktronics now that the CEO is 90% spider. How does he give a press conference?

He probably has a fake human suit for speech purposes... and the spider suit for uhh... bad guy purposes...

As for Baxterfly, yeah, he always wanted payback on both Shredder and the TMNT, but most of the times Shredder would trick him into working for him again. Baxter turning Shredder into a lil fly was classic though. LOL The way the others were acting (Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady), you'd figure they'd leave him as a fly for quite a while before turning him back. LOL

I vote for New Stockman. He's a mildmind scientist who denines revenge on Shredder and the Turtles. I seen to of gotten use to this Stockman than the other one. Don't remenber much about the Original.

I have a feeling Stocktronics got shut down after the police found out Baxter was responsible for the robberies.

You know, if this question was asked when I first saw the intial drawings before the first show aired of the new series, I would of said I liked the Fly more. But now that I have seen the new Baxter and watched the original tapes of the Fly, I have come to realize that 2003 Baxter is the way to go. He is a genious, and very full of himself. I like that in a character.

New Baxter? Are you kidding me? Wow, I'm shocked. I'm shocked that anyone who loved the old Turtles would place the new eps above them in any respect except gravity, actually -- but that's another thread, I'm sure. :)

I had to vote for the old Baxter. He mutated into a freaking fly for cryin' out loud! And damned if I didn't love that character. I'm still holding out hope that this new Baxter's head will end up in some kind of a pod -- perhaps during an experimental attempt to restore his body to him? -- that just happens to be invaded by a common housefly at the very last second, thus restoring Baxter's body!!! -- but also making him into a humanoid fly. Somehow I don't think this new Baxter's attitude would fit the fly character very well, though, so even if that did happen my sentiments would probably remain with the old geeky Baxter with his black sweater and yellow bow tie. And wings, of course. Y la computadora!

Well... a more dangerous baxterfly would be cool too. after all, if the poor guy can handle going from crippled to being a head, then he can handle being a big fly.

Nice idea!
Maybe he could steal Utrom equipment to try and regrow his body, but the machine grows him the body of a giant fly...

As we have been seeing lately, Baxter has been coming back in various forms, maybe next a fly? And to Wes, you have to admit, Baxter 2003 is the better scientist and is written better.

I always felt sorry for the old Baxter. He just wanted to solve New York's rat problem but no exterminator would hire him because the Mouser would put them out of business. I mean, he should've had more common sense than to join up with Shredder but al lhe wanted was for someone to appreciate his work. And then came the insane asylum that caused him to go crazy and Krang turning the poor guy into a fly monster.

And after all that he gets shipped off to another dimension, never to be seen again...until his cameo next season.

Didn't the original Baxter get killed or something? He got eaten by a giant spider from another dimension, right?

Oh, and I prefer the new Baxter. Gotta give props to tha brotha.

I'm surprised Baxter built tons of mousers and never asked for a check. But then again it didn't seem Shredder would pay him. Hell, he sent foot soldiers to kill the guy.

Baxter supposedly died in the end of the regular weekly series cause he was trapped in a giant spiderweb with a giant spider. Then the CBS eps started and viola! Baxter's back, and so is his alien comp! And now somehow this huge comp that was practically a giant egyptian themed spaceship was now converted to a portable laptop. O.o

He was always a self-obsessed dork, who hated everyone else. Why would you want to be that? Plus, he no longer really had any human features. heh. I love the old cartoon, and I love Baxter, so I can say that with confidence, :)

Cyborg eh? :D

I have to concur - in general the new series characters are just far more well rounded - although one thing that has bugged me after watching ep7 again is how leanient Shredder was on Hun after the failiure of the Foot Tech Ninja's to retrieve the Turtles given they had Raph in the first place. Seems to me like Shredder dislikes Baxter's arrogance - which is a noticeable character trait not present in the original TMNT series. Also how many charcters were 'coloured' at all in the original series? I can't actually think of any black or hispanics turning up in the original series - pleanty of Italians of course (what with the pizza obsessing).

I preferr the old one, but I think I know why i´m doing this.

I grew up with the old Turtles, and so I was little sad what they done to him. And that`s perhaps the Cause for missing Bebop and Rocksteady and Krang!

Nevertheless: Both Series and their characters rock!!!! 8)

Old toon Baxter was a spineless wimp (except for the episode where he steals the Eye of Sarnoth). I like the new toon/old comics Baxter better.

I agree, but they do have a version of Krang, in the Utrons. I think it is only a matter of time before we see a rhino and a warthog somewhere down the line, :)

well the only question i have is why did baxter feel such a need to please shredder in the old toon....i understand shred head broke him outta jail but before that he said...."Master i promice i'll never fail u again..." what did they brain wash him....he was too easy to follow shredder...who treated him with little respect....atleast new baxter demands shredder's respect....even after failing...but i still vote fly guy....got to love the fly...he's classic

yeah, that was an oversight from the writers. In the original 5 ep mini series, Baxter made a bunch of mousers for shredder not knowing why, and was then arrested, also not knowing why. As far as he knew Shredder was some nut in a cape that wanted to buy tons of mousers cause he really hated rats.

Jarrah White
03-01-2004, 08:40 PM
And in the next episode we learn he was arrested for trying to take over the city with his mousers... That never happened :-?

Jester
03-02-2004, 06:57 AM
exactly....closeest he got to mousers "taking over the city" was trashing that one building....even shredder had no goal of taking ny...just "seek out Hamato Yoshi....and DESTROY HIM!!!!"
