Alright, I see that talking about politics on this message board is "outlawed" so to speak. I personally love to argue politics/government matters, even though I'm wrong sometimes, so why can't we just say that political threads are ok as long as we stay civil? If someone attacks somebody else couldn't we just give em a warning, delete the post and forget it? I'm not sure if it's possible but maybe Krang could give a couple of mods the power to warn people. Then if when Krang comes on and he thinks they didn't deserve the warning, he can take it away. That way, those of us who are mature enough, can carry on an intellectual conversation, while those who can't handle it, will be warned/banned/whatever.

Thoughts?

The issue is that they don't stay civil. Political and Religious discussions always lead to arguments. Because people's belief in what they believe when it comes to those two areas, are much more passionate then things like which Turtle is the best. There are boards out there for such discussion, so it's best that they be kept off here. Especially since all the do is lead to hurt feelings and flame wars. I for one hope that here, as well as other places I'm on keep these discussions banned. It's for the greater good of a more peaceful community. :)

You didn't have to hide the fact that I was the inspiration for this thread, you know ;)

I agree with Splinter. We've had many political and religious discussion threads, and at the beginning of almost all of them, we said that the discussion would only be allowed to continue if it remained civil. And for awhile, it did. I was and am very proud of some people for that reason, but eventually some arguement would break out and the thread would be locked, and warnings given out.

It's very disruptive when this happens, and it can actually leave bad blood between members. There are boards out there that focus on mature religious and/or political discussion.

i wouldn't like it if there were religious topics in here, i really wouldn't. I already dislike the "worst tv/movie" kinda topics but theres nothing i can do about it.

But that's the fun of the forums in the first place! Discussion and debate!

Oh yeah I won't deny that Rez is probably the main reason I wanna talk politics.

Are religion discussions banned too? I was thinkin about starting a rerun of the old religion thread from last spring...

Any and all discussions/debates about religion, politics and the likes are banned. People become Way too personal about some of their beliefs, and personally attack other members. Thats why we dont have these discussions, plain and simple.

However, I'm sure its okay to debate with someone via PM. :D

Just dont attack. You can't say something like:

Christians are dumb asses.

You can say, though,

In my opinion, the ten commandments were innacurate. Or something.

PS I am catholic. I wouldn't be offended by someones opinion.

See, religion and politics are the primary reasons of every conflict in history, just about. To debate over them leads to nothing but flame wars and insults.

I like the debates, but people are so hell bent on converting everyone that they don't take a breather and listen to another persons point of view.

You're perfectly right.

But after a couple of warnings, don't you think people would get a clue and stop doing it? I know it's more work for the mods, but we do have a line of people waiting to become mods.....

Hahahahahahahahaha! *dies laughing*

These are human beings we're talking about here! There have been countless wars, World Wars over religion and politics. And they still haven't learned.

Nothing personal against anyone here, and I respect that people hold their beliefs so close to their hearts, but humans are humans... We've seen fights break out over these topics here repeatedly, despite warnings.

As someone said, there's no reason one can't debate over PM and e-mail.

Sorry, but like a few others have said above, threads about those topics aren't allowed due to past experiences. It is too much work for the mods and admins to try to control those threads, so the decision is final, and it's no longer necessary to leave this thread open.
