Now I have reason to get up on time for my lectures (aside from, well, the lectures themselves).

Damn. You are really lucky. I hope it comes back on in the US. Hopefully on a channel that won't edit the episodes. I really doubt it though.

The Americans will always be luckier

They got ten years of TMNT, Britain only got FOUR, and two of them are Seasons 4 and Ten.

On digital cable I have the BBC-A(America) channel but I doubt they will put on TMNT.

As for who is luckier I guess that depends on your point of view. Being able to watch and record TMNT episodes in higher quality in a format that doesn't degrade over time seems pretty lucky to me.

ZariusTwo:

Did you get four years or only four seasons of TMNT?

Also does the BBC broadcast in HD?

Oh we're not that lucky (time to stop lurking).

The BBC are showing the censored version (it took me awhile to find copies of uncensored versions to compare with and it all looks so pointless now), they're ratioing it like it's widescreen (I have no idea why they do that with CBBC to cartoons - it just means heads get cut off) and like has been meantioned they never got that far into the series.

All in all whilst the trip down nostalgia lane is welcome the benefit of advanced years and knonwledge make it somewhat more bittersweet.

Oh well, just as well GMTV 2 is showing TMNT 2003 every morning.

Four seasons, but we had a lot of re-runs of the Second and Third.

We never got the first season

Lucky you, down here in Sydney we're still waiting for Season 2 of the new series :(

What do you mean by that exactly?

I mean I know there's a better version out there and more episodes that I'm going to have to work at getting to see. Plus the fact they chop the top and bottom of the image off to make it faux-widescreen really annoys me - stupid BBC.

The original series is still worth watching

Sure is, but damn if the BBC doesn't try hard not making it so.

The BBC are idiots, they did the same thing with The Racoons...

They don't do it when Jackie Chan Adventures or any recent show comes on though, do they?

I don't live that far away from the BBC - maybe I could get in there and force them to show TMNT in heavy rotation in fullscreen. Someone has to do something about their Freeview based, CBBC induced, widescreen chopping obsession.

Maybe I should just go down to the BBC tomorrow with my CV... I hear they need a new DG :D

Did the BBC never show season one? :-?
I remember watching All About Rats once (the one with all the mousers and Mikey being captured), that's what got me into them when I was younger, that is a season one episode right?

In Germany they show the original Series the 5th Time in a Row I think..........

And it`s really boring right now. I can talk all the dialogues

I loved the OS but when u see them every day, it`s not as cool as normal 8)

I wish "Tele 5" would buy the New Series

man, I hope after the DVD comes out here in America, the FoxBox will bring in the old toon here.

That really does suck that it is edited and that it has the faux-widescreen. At least it is on.
The BBC are showing the censored version
Do they edit it because they think it is violent or because they try to fit more commercials in?

No man, as much as we'd all like it the Fox Box isn't going to do that.

Orochi Chimera

It might be possible for the Fox Box to get the original TMNT. They recently just stopped showing another old cartoon Back to the Future(1991) and they have showed other old cartoons like Dungeons and Dragons(1983) in the last few years.

Also WPIX/WB has been showing old cartoons like Carmen Sandiego(1994)
and is currently showing the littles(1983). So it is possible that one of these channels could get it.

I was hoping that cartoon network would put it on since they might possibly show the uncut episodes. Or maybe Boomerang without commercials.

Used http://www.tvtome.com/ for the dates.

Eeww no, I watched the episode this morning and it doesn't have Don's original voice actor :(

Still, funny to hear the theme 'Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles' again...

The BBC doesn't show commercials.

It's not they who edit it per se - it's an alternate version that already was edited for the BBC. You see nunchucks and shuriken are considered too violent and readily constructable by enterprising teenagers. In the era of video nasties the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) stepped in to start regulating videos and martial arts films with such implements were cut out.

Hence we do not see the sequence in the opening title with Mikey deflecting those items, nor the bit at the end nor the bit near the middle nor the orange background holding nunchunks thing in the coloured background weapons bit.

And it's HERO not NINJA - because despite the fact every kid KNEW they were supposed to be ninja's they're too violent again. And the film was TMNT, not TMHT. Censors Intellegence 0 Kids Intellegence 1.

So....they edit the part in the intro with the nunchucks and the ninja stuff....but when the show opens and Splinter talks to them about being ninjas and such, they don't censor that? That is so stupid.

Lol, they even edit the 'Splinter taught them to be ninja teens' lyric and change it to 'Splinter taught them to be fighting teens'. Bloody fools. Shame they can't show the original unedited eps, but alas, they're just using the tapes they already have...

So did they cut out most of Michelangelo's fight scenes or did they edit most of the fight scenes?

If they did edit most of the fight scenes then the episodes must be significantly shorter.
