View Full Version : What first got you interested in the turtles?

When I was a child I had no interest in the turtles, though my friends would sometimes invite me upstars, you see I used to live in a block of flats upstars. I'd come up to their place finding them glued to the TV watching the old toon. The only episodes I saw was Leonardo is Missing, Adventures of Rhino Man and The Adventures in Turtle-Sitting. Years later I saw The Next Mutation on the TV, didn't pay much attention to it either though...
Times have changed, I think it was July 2003. I was watching TV, I saw things change, at first I thought it was the old toon, but I kept thinking the animation looked different. I was gonna switch it off, but something kept me watching. After that I began secretly watching the show in my room with the some really low (Afraid to admit it). About the time The Unconvincing Turtle Titan aired I admited it to my mum, but I was still afraid to admit it to my sister.

A combination of the old toon and a nextdoor neighbor who had a crapload of toys the year they were first manufactured.

It's possible I'd seen some ep's of the cartoon prior to the movie , but for me it was the 1st movie , I'll never forget the great movie poster :D
It was just a very cool concept which lith a spark in me.

It was a combonation of the movie and cartoon, but the movies kept me interested, so I voted that.
JW: why do you bother putting the next mutation and the anime in the poll? I'm sure nobody got into it from that....

I got a TMNT toy as a gift, around the time the series began airing. (87?)

For me it was definitely the toys. I was in Big Wheel and saw the aisle full of 1st series tmnt's and I thought they were all bad guys (i guess cuz they had mean faces).
Then after that, my cousin brought over the toys and we played with them (hey, I was young!)....That Saturday I watched the cartoon for the first time, the episode "Splinter No More". I started to draw tmnt's often.
Then I got a Foot Soldier and a Knucklehead as a gift, and the rest is history.

I saw the show when it first aired in December 1987.
I was 8 at the time.
It blew my mind.
I thought April was hot.
Every male aged 6 to 10 I knew at the time experienced similar reactions.

My brother. He was obsessed with the old cartoon, so I joined in. I never really looked back since.
So... it's all his fault. I blame him. Er... thank him. Thank you, Phyzogh! :D

Definitely the old toon. I didn't know comic, anime or other stuff existed until one year.

Whoops, I voted other because, for some reason, I thought that "Comics" meant just the Mirages...
I came into TMNT thanks to the Archies. Pretty much like Transformers, when I got to choose between comics avaliable on every news stand and possible to find in flea markets and at friends, or a cartoon airing on some channel I didn't have, what would be the smartest choice?
I saw the first couple of episodes at my cousin's house, she taped them because she thought it was awesome....after watching it so did I. For the next couple of weeks I couldn't talk about anything but turtles, I drew them all the time. A couple of months later my brother got a Rocksteady action figure and a friend got all the turtles, so that's when I really started to get crazy.

The old toon, by far, is the reason why I'm a TMNT fan today. I first heard of the show from a bunch of kids at school. They were talking about pizza eating turtles, and I thought that sounded cool. I tuned in, and the rest is history. :D

I kinda got into the Turtles in a flash. I knew of them but didn't really care either way. When I was seven, it was like December of 1990 or something and my dad thought I needed a hobby. We passed by the Turtle figures in the store and he asked me if I'd play with one. I said sure. We picked the original Raphael off the shelf. I wanted original Leonardo but he wasn't there. Finally I got a Leonardo at Toys R Us but I soon realized he was the Wacky one. But I got into the Turtles after that and started watching the show and collecting figures like crazy.

The old toon when I was very young. Then I got a lot of toys and other TMNT items. I got to play with fellow TMNT fans (other kids, which was one shell of a lot better than arguing about them all the time here, but those wonderful days have past...) Then I got to see the movies, and much later, read the comics. It was a combination of all these things led me to a great relationship with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What got me in to it was mainly the toys. Although the old toon helped alot to.

I used to watch the toons when I was young, then I sort of had a falling out with the turtles. One of my friends, Major Pain is a turtle fan so I have recently gotten back into the whole ninja turtle thing. COABUNGA DUDE

I really can't remember. It's been way too long. Either the old show or the toys, or both.

When I was six years old I read an article about them in our TV-guide (at that age I pretty much read everything printed what got into my hands). I really loved the picture above the article so I really wanted to see the "Haro Tahrtels" (I didn't know English so that was how I pronounced it :D ).
