I went with shredder cause all I remember from being a kid was being pissed off that I couldnt get the original 1988 shredder to stand up...arg...... :x

The new april is much hotter too... :P

Hotter? But she's a cartoon character.

I voted for the new foot soldier. don't actually know why it's called a foot soldier in this new, when it's a ninja.... :-?

well, I think they're awesome

way cooler than the old foot soldiers

Here's my own thoughts.
The four turtles have improved because you can stand them up. I still have frustrations getting my original Shredder to stand, so I feel ya there. It is nice to have an april figure not in her jumpsuit that is a decent looking toy. The Ravishing Reporter was more like a doll, and the ninja newscaster was kinda...wierd.

I love that Mikey is smiling. I like the old splinter better, though. And I gotta agree with you on the foot soldiers. Ten fold! The articulation is way better. The best part about the new Fightin' Gear turtles is that you can take all the crazy armor off and just have four regular turtles with toybiz style articulation.

Painting the weapons was a welcome change, though I wish playmates would have kept to 4kids color scheme and painted the tape on the turtles weapons the color of their masks.

I wish I could have seen that too... oh well... you can always paint over it, unless you want it Mint out of Package..

I cannot choose... everything is completely upscaled from the first line.

Remember when the accessories were on a plastic card/sheet... whatever? any you had to pop them out, and little plastic shards were still stuck in their sides?

Plus the characters actually Look like they were from the cartoon, not some weird compromiose between cartoon and comic.

Add in the extra articulation, and minifigures, and this toy line is much better than the first to me.

I went with Shredder. The old one was... well, not very good. The new one's pretty well done, and at least i can get him to stand up ;)

Since I've not delved into the realm of the new Turtles much, I don't have much input. However, I will say the new Turtle figures compared to the old ones from 1988 is pretty stark. The new ones put the old ones to shame I'm sorry to say..in fact the old ones look quite cheesy compared IMO.

I gotta admit, that compromise between comic and cartoon really bugged the shell outta me. I love my old turtles, but you're right. I'm glad that playmates is sticking with a more "true to it's nature" feel this time. I just hated the "Toon Turtles" they came out with. Michelangelo looked like a frog for goodness sake. It was nice that they came out with Vernon and Irma though.

So far, everyone pretty much is in agreement that new shredder is tons better than the old shredder. Did it ever bug anyone else that they never painted Old Shredder's Helmet all the way? They painted his eyebrows on the bottom part of his helmet, making him look really stupid. If you look at the back of any old figure card though, they didn't do that to the prototype. Does anyone know what I'm talkin' about?

I think the Shredder had the best improvements. The original Shredder fig couldn't even stand on his own two feet, and his hands were all weird. He could only hold one weapon at a time, and it usually kept falling out. Plus, the design of the new Shredder looks better, too. :)

I enjoy the old Shredder though...maybe because he was such a rarer find back when I collected the old figures as a kid. The new Shredder looks cool enough but I like the old Shredder's more human look.

Having Shredder as a rarity was fun. I love to try to hunt down rare figures. I have a real sense of accomplishment when I find them. Even working at Toys R Us, pulling things off the truck, I'll still get suprised when I see the new whatever that supposed to be pretty rare. Armorized Shredder is a pretty rare find in my experience. I almost bought one when I first saw it, but let it go. I didn't see it for a really long time after that. I finally found it, and bought it.

i loved my armorized shredder....back when i thought he was human and not a bloddy utrom.....oh well no i just have to buy the "Evil Utrom Shredder"....if they make him...i'm still lookin for a stinking baxter stockman....how many forms does a man have to take befor he becomes a frickin' action figure

Ok, brief breach from the subject. I know it's not supposed to happen, but I'm the one who posted this topic.

Anyway, who liked the fact that Shredder turned out to be a bloody Utrom?
I certainly did not.

I liked it, but this isn't the place for this discussion ;).

If they do happen to make an 'Evil Utrom Shredder' figure, hopefully you can take all the armor off and have an exosuit under it. That'd be sweet.

What I'd really like them to make from that same episode would be a new style april with her yellow jumpsuit. that was an awesome moment.

Ok, you're right. Back to comparing figures.

Since we're on the subject of April, what do we think about her new look? Do you think playmates did as good a job capturing it as they did the old April? I thought the april with the orange stripes was the best looking one.

i have a problem with april....and that is mostly form the 4kids prospective....if she's a scientist why did she dress like she did in her first apperence...and @ work?? i mean dr stockman must have low dress code standerds...or he kinda likes april's belly shirts..."It's a shame i'll have to kill u ms o'neil....cause i'd really like to interface with ur main frema."

True...true...but u've got to admit a belly shirt and flare jeans don't exactly say "I'm a respected lab assistent"

Good point. I think Casey made a crack about her looking like she's working in sanitation or something.

I hate the fact that the new Shredder is a Utrom with a passion.

OK....why is that....i've come to accept it

Zachatello00

Well, the whole Utrom thing really doesn't make much sense. If they see from the stomach cavity in the exoskeleton, how do they see with their faces covered? Did you see this last weeks episode where Leatherhead strangled Baxter by the neck? What was that supposed to do?

But, keeping with the subject, it'll be cool when the Utrom Exoskeleton comes out and we can put the vintage Krang from the body unit in there.

First of all, this is my 1st post in these parts. Glad be a part of! :D

Anyways, I'm curious about this Utrom shredder you speak of. Unfortunatley the TMNT coverage is not great out in Australia so I'm guessing that in an episode we find Shredder's brain is in his stomach. How can this make any sense? The whole back story between Splinter and Shredder is based around an ancient feud back in Japan! Was he still a Utrom then? Oroku Saki = Shredder = Utrom = Bad Idea

As for the toys, the new Shredder is far and away the best improvement. He now actually looks like a big bad ninja boss, not some hunched over wimp. The turtles have gained a little more articulation and the sculpt is certainly better, but I was dissapointed with their feet. Would have liked to have ball jointed head rather than the horizontal rotation. Just my 2 cents! ;)

Hey Holy Grail,
Welcome to the Technodrome.
Yeah, Shredder turned out to have an utrom stuck in his gut a couple of episodes ago. People have accepted it, but no one really likes it.

the fact that shreddert turns out to be a utrom in the new show just means the scriptwriters have looked at the mirage storyline too...it's nice to see they don't just go for the easy approach

I like the idea that shedder is an utrom, this changes things up a bit, rather than having the same exact stories as the comics and the old show. It is different, but I think some really good shows will come and have come out of the idea.

Back to the toys:
The new shedder is a lot better than the old one. The old one just seems to be crouching or something. The thing I don't get about the new shedder is that he is blue(I know armorized shedder is grey) but why make the original one blue, when he is grey in the cartoon. It's like making splinter brown, when he is grey. I don't understand.

Zachatello00
03-02-2004, 04:02 PM
In the cartoon, as I'm sure you've noticed, Shredder's not blue. He is sort of a bluish gray. Playmates just captured more of the blue in the figure. Part of the reason I opted for Armorized Shredder. In the old cartoon of course, Shredder was always Gray, and yet we had a blue figure. Do you remember Toon Shredder? It was the same figure but playmates went back and painted him the way he actually looks in the cartoon show. This was a much better figure I thought, since, for one, they painted the top part of his helmet (that always bugged the shell out of me.)[/img]
