The Big Bad

I'm toying around with the idea of buying the first series and need some input. All I know about it is that it stars April during or after the time Splinter was training her, and that it has covers by Chris Allan. So, how was it? Who wrote it? Who drew it? What was the tone? What was the plot (no spoilers, please)? Was it more realistic than the regulars, the same, or less? Did any other characters from the regular series appear?
Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the TMNTs appeared in the series.

The first April series rocked. I'm not sure much of the actual TMNT themselves, maybe Splinter, but I do remember there were some cool villians, ninja gangs and April even got to take on the major villian on her own with some kick ass sword skills.

That must be the East May series.... man that was so horribly drawn I couldn't even bring myself to buy it.

Two series of April... this first I believe have her facing off against Chien Kahn again, and the second was the May East Saga, which involved April becoming a giant cyborg mecha robot at some point.
I haven't read them in awhile, so I'm a little unsure about them. I will dig them out in a bit and provide some more details.

Man, you guys are funny. No one in this forum has ever heard of anything and anytime some artist has a unique/unusual drawing style he is automatically 'awful'. Bob Fingerman did the 'awful' artwork in the 2nd April mini-series you're referring to. He's got CRAZY indie cred and tons of fellow creators love his work on 'Minimum Wage'. You may not care for his style, I don't, either, but that doesn't mean he's awful or even bad. He knows exactly what he's doing, he's consistent, anatomically and symmetrically balanced, etc. Meanwhile LeSean and the self-congratulating guy that did the art in the new 'Tales' #3 are awesome to you guys. Uh, okay!
