Looking for an alternative to IRC? Look here...

There are many posters here who dislike IRC to get their TMNT episodes.
I once had a Direct Connect hub setup so people had an alternative, but no one used it. I am currently sharing episodes in a Transformers hub, but I could easily setup a TMNT hub again. I do not want to be the only one sharing episodes because my collection is not complete, and I will only allow 2 users at a time. I will be downloading episodes again from IRC to try and complete my collection and I would share them all with you.
Direct Connect even has real-time chat!!!
I would ask that if you use the hub, to please share your eps with everyone else.
If enough people are interested, I would ask if Krang could advertise it on the frontpage. I could even do a simple web page for instructional purposes.

Let me know what you think of Direct Connect as an alternative.

I think the main problem with IRC is queuing, DirectConnect could work quite well.

Well im getting adsl by the end of the month... I cant send you all, its over 10 gigs and i need the bandwith but maybe if you would be ok with one ep per day, that could work... if not, i could give you 50 as soon as i can..

Direct connect...I don't know if it's a good idea or a bad idea...i used to use DC to get tmnt stuff and it never finished :P but it sounds like a fun idea to try :D
Soo...if you ever put a tmnt hub again let me know and i'll share the stuff i have, darthraph :D there's a lot of stuff that i already burned to cd so i won't be able to share...but i still got around 5 gigs o' tmnt stuff to share :)

I hate direct connect, I never find anything I want on it, plus you can't view the entire file names a lot so you don't know what it is that's found in the search results.

I dislike direct connect too...to download files that is, i can never finish my downloads...BUUUUUUT i think it'd be interesting to try and share there.

Yes, the search feature isn't that great so it forces you to browse everyone's files.

DC has an auto-resume feature. If you or the person you are downloading from goes offline, your downoad will autoresume when back online.

I don't see much interest yet. Let's keep the feedback going.

I was testing DC today in a sm hub...worked fine...i got some files...even tho i was getting a sm special and the guy disconnected while i was downloading, now i only have parts 1 and 2 of 3...i hate when that happens :dead: I guess you're right, there isn't enough interest in a tmnt dc hub yet...it'd be pointless to make one if only 3 peeps will be there =P :oops: *sits and waits :D *

Since my questions don't seem to be answered in the thread I orginally posted them in, I'll post them here.

Question: when it says "the file has been queued in slot XX", what does that mean? It doesn't say "The file has been added to the queue"....

Also, what's with EVERY DCC connection closing after 30 seconds? What must I do to keep it open?

When you are in slot XX, that means you are the XX person in line to download the file. Most people don't have more than 3 slots open at a time and you have to wait.

Thanks for the help...but now what about the DCC closing after 30 seconds?

It keeps saying "closing idle connection in 30 seconds" or along those lines. What must I do to keep it active?

You dont need to stay on the servers! Just que the file and stay on the channel.
