Some info on the new APRIL figure

This was found on the RTM Buzzboard, regarding the status of the April figure. Looks like we're getting Baxter Stockman's lab assistant, not the Channel 6 reporter:

April's photos should be coming down the pike pretty soon. She has reddish hair that is pulled back, with a two tendrils coming down the sides of her face. She wears a tiny baby-tee that shows off her midrif and mildly baggy pants with big shoes.

Her 'origin' remains true to the comic book. No reporters here folks...


I hope something in her outfit is yellow at least. :)

Although I am a Mirage TMNT fan, I did kind of like April as a pushy news reporter. I just think it would make sense for the TMNT to need such a connection. Besides, with the exception of her first introduction to the guys, her career was hardly mentioned again in the Mirage series. So I wouldn't mind if Peter decided to make her a reporter.

But I must say that overall that I am very pleased with Peter Laird. He is staying true the Mirage comics in almost everyway imaginable (except for the blood of course). This show has all the right characters, stories (from what I've seen), and based on the mini-comic and drawings the right amount of attitude and action. This should be great.

I agree. April needs a long-term career evolution like other adults. I wouldn't mind if April worked for Baxter to pay for her schooling to become a reporter. That way it could have April's career evolve over time. I would love to see the lab assistant into an in-yer-face news repoter job, and basically getting experience in the underground scene as fodder for her writing her novel. It would be an easy way to get stories since it involves her getting herself into trouble.

Does April ever appear as a reporter in the Mirage series (old or new)?

In the new TV series, April obviously can't be Baxter Stockman's assistant forever, and her job as an antique store clerk will cease to be interesting pretty quickly (and will be terminated if the Foot Clan destroys her store)...

I agree, though... I hope she has a more interesting job than the owner of an antique store.

I'm not positive, but I think she did become a reporter, just not a TV reporter. The turtles often went on their own adventures and April just wouldn't be in the issues. I think Peter Laird's site has issue summaries, and I think that's where I read she might've been a reporter later in the Mirage series.

But don't quote me on that. :D

I knew it.. they would be looking like what we saw in the CGI movie clips. She looked a bit like that too, with her hair pulled back, wearing a white T with a leather type jacket.

But no.. I don't she was ever a reporter in the comics. Heck... it seemed like she didn't have much of a career/jpb after they went to the farmhouse. What she did was not made very clear. It wasn't until CIty at War you see her looking for a job, which then she becomes a landlord for an aprtment building.

According to this page (http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/muses/353/tmntdictko.html), the Mirage April was a reporter for a short while around #32, but for most of the time in Eastman and Lairds issues she has worked with computers. During City at war, for example, if I remember it correct.

But some of those comics Mirage did with guest artists... and the way they jump the story line around, sometimes it's hard to tell what is for real, and what was just a side swipe the guest artist wanted to do from the original story.

I personally always like the toon April, tho I will havta admit the yellow jumpsuit did get old after a while. And I agree that her career DID help the turtles much in their adventures, with all the info she gave them. I remember reading somewhere, I think it may have been the official TMNT site, that the producers of the show perposely made her into a reporter b/c they wanted to give her a job where she became more involved with the TMNT. April's always been an important character in all universes. But from what some of you guys were saying, it doesn't sound like she really was entirely involved in the comics.

As far as her being a reporter in Mirage, I myself haven't read all the old Mirage's either, including City of War. But I know in some of the early ones, she did write in her journal alot. And she wrote well at that! So there's definately a sign that she could go on to becoming a reporter, a journalist, or maybe newspaper editor, etc. Good writing skills leads to good things :)

I don't remember what issue # it was, but there was one where she went as a reporter to Egypt. Ended up being rescued by the guys from a resurrected mummy. She of course ended up in a skimpy outfit. :) It was one of the goofier issues.

Yeah, I got that impression too. I mean, in most universes she's around her mid- to late- 20's. This figure design makes her sound like a teeny-bopper. Maybe they're trying to appeal to younger girls.

I sorta liked the way she was in the CGI clip but she was a little too good looking, perfect etc. Seeming I was a kid at the time I used to watch the TMNT cartoon, April as a reporter didn't bother me, nor does it now. Wearing that same costume every ep bothers me and I even wondered that back when I was only 9. Having her as a reporter was just an excuse by the writers to let her be able to go on the Turtles adventures with them. (As far as my knowledge is)

But I think it was good either way if she was a reporter or a computer programmer. I liked Mirage April for one. I wonder if they're gonna make her get a perm as well in the new toon and let the Turtles tease her. "Wow! You look great...!" (thinks to himself, 'for a human...') I think it was Raph. Yeah, that was Raph. It was a funny scene, but I don't think she looked all that good in the perm.

It may be just me, but Raph seems to be the only one we ever see "just out of the shower". There's another scene in the Donatello-one shot where he's in a towel dripping wet. (Note: This is not a complaint. :wink: )

I havta agree with that. I liked her hair better in the cartoon, plus I liked her red hair color. The only time I thought she looked good with curly hair was in the first and 2nd movie, in 3 she hacked it all off, ugly.

heh... well, I'm not against april looking hot. :P I just don't find that yellow jump suit very flattering. If she were in a slightly-above-the-knee mini skirt with a complementary blouse, and dark pantyhose and high heel shoes (like what most TV new reporter chics wear) I won't be complaining. :D

guess what boys, not all woman look so 'perfect' and 'phat' like April O'Neal, me being one of them. Here's a challange, try finding a realistic female heroin character in a comic. I.e. not a perfect form, not miss save all or miss save me, a real everyday heroin... some one like Irma doesn't count, give me a Realistic character...
some one who's body isn't perfect, who live normal lives, who have wierd quirks, who are boyfriendless and are barely surviving college/highschool and work. Some one who has no special powers or abilites (I may sound like a hypocrate here, e.g. Randi), not physically strong or overly smart.
Basically, find me a heroin in a comic book that reminds you of that girl in your class that wouldn't win a beauty contest or crack a mirror just by looking at it. that girl who isn't popular but isn't the most hated one in your school

I can understand where you're coming from. Women are often stereo-typed when placed in comic books, which isn't fair. I know people come in all different shapes and sizes. I go to a very diverse college, where I've met people from all around the world and from all walks of life. I'm not close-minded, if that's what you're thinking.

But lemme think for a minute... A female comic book character who doesn't fit the stereotypical heroine mold? Hmm... How about Aunt May from Spider-Man? I think she fits a lot of the traits you mentioned. Oracle from Birds of Prey? Marrow from X-Men? They have a few traits you mentioned as well. However, I can't think of anyone that fits the bill perfectly.

And that is my point, I'm sick of men expecting me to be a 'Dark Angel' and I've be trying for years to change my perspective of what a good man should be. (Which I have changed, but I'm still very picky :| the guy has to be smart, AND mature not like my ex who had a coniption fit over everything).
