i was just wondering how people felt about the packageing of the new toys. as someone who likes to leave them in the box i really like the old style better 3 action type shots of that particular figure. the new one to me is kinda plain/ standard.

The old ones were cool because they were all different. Each package had some pictures of that character. Nowadays, all the packages either have a Turtle's head if it is one of the Turtles or all the Turtle's heads if it is a non-Turtles character. The new packages just don't have any pizzazz! Even the vehicles back then had cool packages that depicted an action-packed (and sometimes humorour) picture of the vehicle in action. I definite like the old packages better than the new ones.

AMEN to the both of you!
I kind of find it odd how in the orignal line they took a chance and used original art work for some time with each toy...but with this new line thats doing extreamly well perhaps even better then the old one did at first......
they are taking the cheap rout.....I really just find it odd......I don't really want to hear about them saving money on there toys by doing that because they sure as hell don't even paint the toys very well......still
and the old line also had a hell of allot more detail to the characters.....
I know this new line is based directly from the toon..but so was the old line for the most part....with a little mirage artist flair and love added to the toys.
I really think thats whats missing. well that and all the crazzy monsters and stuff I loved as a kid.

The new packaging fits the new line, just like how the old packaging fits the old line.
That and the bright colors used on the new packaging REALLY make the figures stand out on store shelves. Most other lines are using blacks, greys, and blues and what not, but the new TMNT line makes you pay attention to it. Great marketing tactic on Playmates part.

your not serious right?
that turtle shell backer has got to be some of the worst photo shop art I've ever seen it's A good thing the figures are nice though.
but I agree with you the new package art does fit the new line well
cheap and easy.

Yeah, I am actually. Walk down the toy isle... the TMNT packaging is really the only one that pops out, mostly 'cause the rest of the stuff out there has pretty boring packaging. But that's just repeating what i've already said ;).
While it's not the best looking thing out there, it DOES catch your eye because of the clashing orange yellow and green colors.
I do wish they'd use some original art for each card/box though, but i doubt that'll happen.

i like the colors and all and the whole popping out thing is true and i do like it. but i would just love it if there were lets say 2 images of that particular figure in some sort of pose near the mid top right and left. like under the turtle head and at the top right and left of the plastic..... i dont know if i explained it right
im not saying huge pics that take over the box but maybe an image an 1 1/2 in hight.

Gwgtrunks is right. Playmates did a wonderful job picking the design/colors of the new packaging. My eyes are always open for that yellow/orange. From a marketing perspective it's brilliant. From the picky fanboy perpective it may seem cheap.
This fangirl who happens to have studied some marketing/design thinks it's brilliant.

I dunno, I kinda think the packaging on both old and new are good. I did like the fact they gave three pics of the character on the old boxes, but I didn't like the way they drew some of the pics.

This fangirl who happens to have studied some marketing/design thinks it's brilliant. Yep, for effective marketing you wanna try to attack competetors weaknesses. The new line slashes at the fact that most toy lines now have pretty dull packaging. and if the toys lines out there now had oh... yellow green and orange packaging, you'd wanna make yours dull.
the old line had the dark dull colors to it, with the green and red TMNT logo to draw attention to the boxes. i don't remember enough of the 80s toys (i was 4 in 89, gimme a break ;) ), but from what i've seen the toys back then had bright colors and boxes. Playmates is really just reusing their old formula I think.

That wasn't my point and I am not a picky fan boy...thank you very much...
I also have a degree in marketing and design and think the design isn't that bad but it needs work there editing is very sloppy on the shell layering.
I also feal that this so called new design is very much so like the one they did back in 1992 when they went the cheap direction with there boxes.
The backs were beautiful with the pizza design but the front was horrible.
I'm just saying the color choices are not pour it's the designer who did it that is it looks fast and sloppy. But let me say just once again they have been having record sales with these toys and I think they could stand to have each character have his or her own small photo in some corner of the box...I remember when I first saw the new line the first figures I saw were the 4 turtles themselves with there own head box art I thought holly hell that's awesome...but when I saw the rest of the figures with the very 92 like design box I was rather disappointed.....I mean seriously it's not that bad but I'd rather strive for something great then something halfassed.
I'm just stating what I feal perhaps I will design some box art some time I'd love to do that and shair it all with you I'm not trying to argue just stating valid points.

Dude I think your dogging on it waaaay to much. I'm actually a fan of both packaging styles. But I agree with some of these other folks that both styles suit the separate lines. I really don't think it's the quick and easy route, because atleast they had a couple variations on the front card. Look at the Star Wars figures, they all have the same boring front of the card, with lettering and a space background, then they put some inserts in the card that have the figure name and picture. I remember the first time I saw the turtle cards I thought "wow thats cool that each main turtle has their own distinct card."
Then again it is your opinion, yet I feel you might be exagerating and voicing it a bit loudly. But thats my opinion... And as for the shell layering being some of the worst photoshop art ever.. I doubt that. But your avatars might fall under that category.

I'm talking about there layering not the design it's self mostly....but whatever everyone is entitled to there opinions.....even if certain ones are extremely uncalled for and off topic.
Btw I use what I have to worth with thanks.
Want to give me some better PICS I'll make a better banner.

Your right we shouldn't turn the thread into personal attacks, so sorry if I came off to overbearing. I just sorta get steamed when people dog on the new line, guess I feel like protecting it or something. I suppose i'm just extremely happy to have any new turtles toys at all.
So I apologize for the personal attack, your comments just hit a nerve or something.

i too am very happy to have all the new stuff not just the toys, but dont get me wrong i wasnt trying to attack the new line in any way i was trying to say hey maybe if they do (suggestion here) it could make it better thats all
Yeah thats totally understandable. In fact it would be cool if they sorta did a new style just to refresh the design for 04.
I apologize once again for creating any tension in this thread. I made the post late last night when I was kinda grumpy, not that thats any excuse. But I just wanted to put that out there again for any who may have been offended.
