Raphael the Gardener?

Well, My friend is in Jujitsu, and she's been training with a lot of weapons, such as the Bo staff, Numchucks and soon she'll be training for Kantanas... Anyway, her sensei specialises in these kinds of weapons, and he told her that the origins of Sais, are actually, some kind of traditional gardening tool. He even showed her how they handled them, and she showed me, and the crazy thing is, it makes sence!

Correct me if I'm wrong, since I don't know all the details, and don't mind my spelling ((dear lord, don't mind my spelling))... but can anyone verify this for me? o.o ...

It's true, the sai deffinetly originated as a gardening tool, just like the scythe/sicle(sp?)

yeah i read about them being a gardening tool, the three point are used to create seed holes, and once the crop is grown they used to chop them with the sai.

the peasants then went on to use them as weapons to protect their land because they couldn't afford a real weapon

Nunchaku also originated in China as a gardening tool. Actually, a harvesting tool, if I remember correctly. Over the centuries they were retooled (forgive the pun) to what we know them as.

Sai were originally used to plant rice and they looked alot different from what we know today. There was a planting sai on Ebay once. It looked weird.
