I'm A Ninja Turtles Fan, and I'm Not Afraid to Show It!

One of Azure's posts in another topic inspired me to start this topic. I thought it was really cool how he is not afraid of people knowing that he still likes the Ninja Turtles. :)

I am past the halfway point of my college career now, and I still have things in my room that showcase my interest in the Ninja Turtles. I have posters on my walls; one of my blankets is of the Ninja Turtles; and both of my pillows have Ninja Turtles pillowcases on them. 8)

When I'm doing homework, I like to have a little background noise. So I pop in a Ninja Turtles cartoon video and listen to that while I work on a paper. It never fails to amaze me when someone will be walking down the hall, notice what is on my TV, and go, "Is that the Ninja Turtles?" And then they'll start watching and be like, "I remember this show! I used to watch it all the time as a kid!" And that we'll both recall memories from yesteryear about our favorite foursome. At the writing of this post, I have "Combat Land" playing in the background. :roll:

I am working on a Ninja Turtles website on Microsoft Word, though with my college schedule, I don't get to work on it that often. :-?

I wear my Ninja Turtles t-shirt around campus. No one cares what you wear in college, and I have been surprised on more than one occassion when I see people who have a cool Ninja Turtles shirt that I didn't know existed. :goofygri:

I even incorporate the Ninja Turtles in the classroom. For example, in my Intro to Human Relations class this year, each person had to have something to identify themselves by. One girl is known as "Irish-Catholic-Bartender" and another girl is known for having one brown eye and one green eye. I'm "Ninja Turtles Fan," and it made people laugh when I picked it. :lol:

For my Public Speaking class last year, I gave a Rhetorical Criticism on the "Rise and Fall of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." I had a research paper and PowerPoint to fully illustrate it. Out of the 200 or so speeches we had to listen to for that class, mine was voted as one of the top five speeches of the year. As soon as the class knew I was doing a speech on the Ninja Turtles, they literally woke up and took notice (people had a tendency to space off in that class). :sleep:

I am not afraid to admit that something that gave me joy 10-12 years ago still brings a smile to my face today. I think people who can admit things like that are more mature than those who consider themselves "too old" for cartoons, action figures, etc. :tsmile:

I'm with ya... This is my first year in senior high an' everybody in class and alot of other people knows I'm the turtle dude, cuz I keep drawing those turtles at class... and there's always someone who throws away his/hers school work just to join in talkin' turtle stuff!

Man, i wish i had some stuff like that...Unfortunately, my parents thought i was too much of a tomboy as it was, so i NEVER had the kind of stuff you guys did... :(
I'm gonna change that tho...I've got my comics, i'm planning on getting the action figures, AND I'm gonna go attack Bangor's hot topic and take as much as i can afford. :D

Nobody is too old for cartoons. In my case the intrest has hust dropped... But im still a TMNT fan. I find the original TMNT better than the cartoon, but i still like it tough... If someone says S/he is too old for tmnt... I dont know what to say...

I'm not afraid to show off my love of the TMNT! I have a TMNT bumper sticker on my car, am sewing a patch on my jeans, and will be getting a shirt soon! People do give me slightly odd looks when I mention the fanfiction though. :D

I started first year at the Academy of fine Arts, and I also draw TMNT in those hardcover dummy books, classmates come looking and go WOW, you can draw pretty cool,
And then they start asking questions about TMTN facts, pretty cool
Im already the TMNT dude...

And I tell about the original comics which are much more mature reading material, so I can stay fan without being childish...

I am ashamed to say that I am a closet TMNT fan. They were never that big over here and even worse if you were a girl of 11 you were considered mentally unstable if you proclaimed your fandom.

I suffered many years of bullying and phsyical abuse because of my love for the TMNT.

Now that I am grown and I have a daughter of my own I am still reluctant to stand up on a soap box and scream it to the world. Only people close to me and those I feel I can trust know my 'secret'.

I am considered to be weird enough on my home estate. But then again being shy doesn't help. Don't get me wrong I am in no means ashamed to be a TMNT fan! I just don't think it is the world and his wife's business what I devote my spare time to.

Well, while I'm not shouting my love for TMNT from the rooftops, I'm not trying to keep it a secret that I'm a fan, either. I just AM a fan. I have action figures and drawings and stuff up in my room, and I have a TMNT shirt I wear out sometimes.

No one's ever called my on it, either positively or negatively.

I don't proclaim my fandom from the top of my lungs, but I will mention it if someone talks about cartoons or asks me about my action figures. :)

:lol: I get weird looks time to time about TMNT, but mostly people remember how cool of a show it is and I try to reenvoke thier intrests.
But if old cartoons come up or anything ninja turtles related, I'm there :P Once in the middle of Art Class our teacher mentioned the Renaissance Painters: Leonardo, Raphael and Michealangelo (Not don, he lived slightly later) so I burst out shouting Turtle Power as loud as I could and then slunk back into my seat. :P

LOL! I always remember that those painters are from the Renasaince (sp?) b/c of the turtles! It's all I can do not to burst out laughing when my teacher discusses how beatiful and gentle Raphael's works are.

Like a week ago in my social studies class, we were studying the Renassiance painters and alot of people in the classroom said the only reason why they knew it is because of the Ninja Turtles cartoon.... :roll:

I took an art history class during my senior year in high school. I remember the teacher stating that we would be discussing the works of various artists, such as Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello. After she announced that, she said: "And I'm not talking about the ninja turtles." I thought that was really amusing. :D

I just wanted to clarify something about my first post in this section. Like a lot of other people on this forum, I don't go around proclaiming my love for the Ninja Turtles toward the heavens. I don't walk around on my floor at college, grab people, and go, "Hey, I'm a Ninja Turtles fan, dude!"

But I'm not afraid to hide it, either. I don't think people should be afraid to admit the things they find an interest in. That's what makes you what you are. That's what gives you that uniqueness.

In my opinion, it takes a more mature and couragous person to admit things such as, "I'm still a fan of the Ninja Turtles." If you reveal to a person something like that, and that person ridicules you, you are not a lesser person because of it; the person who made fun of you is the smaller person because he/she has revealed his/her immaturity and insecurity. These are people who can walk the walk, but they can't talk the talk. If a person makes fun of you for what you like, that person is not worth your time.

Here's an example to illustrate my point. In my room back home, I still have stuffed animals from when I was younger. And when I make my bed (which isn't that often), I put all my stuffed animals on my bed when I'm done. Now does that make me immature? Does that make me any less of a person, considering I'll be old enough to drink legally in a few months, and that guys my age are expected to have bikini-clad women on their walls and sports memorabilia plastered all over everything? Does it make a difference that I still have cartoon race cars as wallpaper since that was what I wanted back in third grade? Or does it make me a more mature person to be able to freely admit things like that and not care what people think?

If you can admit to people only and freely the interests you have, and those people respect you for your tastes, then those people are mature and secure with themselves. Those are the people I cling to because I have no time for people who think negatively and only get off by putting down other people.

I think people are too worried about what other people think of them. Personally, the only peoples' opinions that matter to me are my closet friends and immediate family. I don't care that some stranger on the street doesn't like the fact that I like the Ninja Turtles. Does it affect my life? Does it keep me awake at night? No, because that person is insignificant in my life.

As I said, I don't just run up to people, give them a kiss, and proclaim my love for the Ninja Turtles. But I don't hide it, either. You shouldn't have to hide those things you like.

That's what make you who you are, and no one else in the entire world can fill those shoes.
