New DVD kinda a dud?

Hey everyone.
Am I the only one that was just a little disapointed with the DVD today? I mean, I love it for the episodes it promised, but compared to the DVD's we have now of the new toon, it's kinda lacking. I know it's cheaper price for more episodes, but it kinda seems like Artisan just sorta through this thing together. The bonus eps. aren't even in order, ya know? I think I would have enjoyed seeing a few more bells and whilstles on the thing. That's what makes DVD's so great.

I have an "Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers" DVD with no extras...and I love it, I'm not complaining about anything when this DVD comes out in the U.K

What's the quality of the video like? I wasn't very impressed with the video quality on the Artisan Care Bears DVDs.

Sounds like the DVD is exactly what I expected.. nothing special. I'll pick it up within the week, I'm sure. Still better than holding on to disintigrating DVDs.

I'd need to get it to see what this "dissappointment" is about.

Personally, they've fit 9 episodes onto one disk for around 10 bucks, and that's much better than the 1-2 episodes on one SLP dubbed video that FHE made (and they desolve rappidly as well)and I recall the retail price being around 12 bucks a pop. yikes!

Other than the fact that the "never before seen episodes" are series 10, I don't have anything to complain about yet....

Well you can't complain that much. It cost less any of the new cartoon DVDs and has 3 times as many episodes as any of the first 5 new cartoon DVDs. I know that they could of added more stuff but it's basically a budget priced title. Plus these days they make shows expecting to make DVDs of the shows so they probably plan for more extras/content. Also with 9 episodes on one DVD they probably didn't have room for anything else. If the quality is lacking at all that is probably the reason right there(balancing the quality of the video with the amount of time/number of episodes). It also comes out to less than $1.50(US) an episode which is a bargain.

Yeah... I paid 7 bucks for the "Mighty Bebop and Super Rocksteady" video at a video store, and the quality was attrocious.... every 10 seconds, the screen fuzzed up. And that's 3.50 an episode, with one good episode, and one bad episode (that one where they fight the giant cow... all cow puns).

Plus DVD's don't desinigrate like VHS's....

To get all the 5 classic episodes, you'd need to buy 4 videos from e-bay all in SLP quality....

Whoa guys, don't get me wrong. I'm not bashin' the DVD, and 10 dollars is an amazing price. I actually paid more for it at TRU. I'm just saying that it looks like artisan was tryin' to cash in their chips on the TMNT without putting too much effort into the project. I'm not disappointed in the sense of the episodes. That's why i bought the dvd, but you usually get to check out at least some kinda bonus features. I love the dvd, and the price is phenomenal.

What's up with them printing part of the new theme on the back of the DVD cover? Anyone else catch that?

I think Artisan didn't want to invest in something they weren't sure would sell or not. If this DVD sells well, maybe we will get a better season 2 box with bonuses. I can't blame them for trying to step lightly.

The image quality for the 87 episodes was not grand... but the 96 episodes (though out of order) were good. The sound quality was great all around. Not enough chapter breaks... you click forward and it's the next episode. That's no big deal but it would have been nice to have at least one mid episode for each episode.

Great price and it's watchable but honestly my VHS I found by chance last year (of the first 2 episodes) has a better image quality (though it can have tracking problems depending on the VCR it's watched on).

None the less... it's well worth the buy considering you can get 3-4 episode DVD's for about 5 dollars more of the new show and they have gliches... and this gives you 4 well transfered and 5 decently transfered. Not a bad deal... I wish they would restored the footage a bit but I guess that's asking for too much for a casual video release. I'm just glad it's not "The Epic Begins".

Well just think Zach. This DVD compared to a VHS tape of the same episodes will never degrade in quality. Now I'll say this, there might be animation flaws, that's appearent in almost every cartoon, but for a show that's over 25 years old, it looks good. That coupled with the amazing fact that this DVD houses 9 almost 30 minute episodes. A little longer than one X-Files season disc. Again, the quality on this disc will stay like this forever, never to be diminished. Now a VHS tape will one day be eaten by a VCR, or will cease to work or get grainier and whatnot. I for one am proud of Artisan for the job they did. I so hope they release season 2. Please tell your friends fellas, we gotta get these DVD's sold, so they will know that there is a market for the original show.

Huh? TMNT as a whole hasn't even been around for 25 years. The first episodes aired in 87.. try about 17 years.

There are plenty of ways to screw up a DVD... anyone who bought the TMNT DVD's from FUNimation could show you proof of that. My VHS has a better transfer and that just seems wrong to me.

I got the DVD yesterday and I loved every bit of it. True they coud of put more stuff on the DVD but think of it this way on a VHS you only got 2 episodes but on the DVD you got 9 episodes thats 7 more episodes on the DVD that thay coud'nt do on a VHS. The DVD is way better b/c of that. :wink:

I bought the dvd when the store opened yesterday morning and I watched them when I got home, man seeing these episodes made me so happy!

yeah...i like having the tmnt on dvd...and i like that there are 9 eps....but i'll post my grips
1. No special features. They couldda found something...even fudge it and do a cast filmography
2. "Never-before seen bonus episodes" that were seen by some people. I say we sue them for false advertising....j/k

I don't think the quality of the episodes has anything to do do with how easily the dvd will get scratched. Dvds all start out the same... they all can get scratched pretty much the same way. Correct me if i'm wrong.
And the quality may be bad either because of the quality of the originals that it's coming from, or the fact that nine episodes are on one disc, so they are more compressed.
I haven't seen the disc yet, so I don't know what the quality looks like.

I am sure there are people who are just as big a fan of the Turtles as I am...and I know that I take what I can get. Since I knew what a DVD was, this has been at the top of my list. Complaining about something as great as this is not on my list of things to day. 9 episodes for 9 bucks. Sounds good to me.

Anybody for the idea of Seasons 1 with 10, 2 with 9, 3 with 8?

Just wanted to clear something up... DVD's WILL eventually go bad. All CD based media will. Yeah, it won't be for another 30 some years, but it's gonna happen. Untill then though, the picture quality will stay about the same, but there'll be places where it has to skip data to keep playing.


I might have to get this, but as soon as I get my car i'm not gonna have hardly any money left outta my checks. (over 100 bucks a month for insurance! :cry: ).
