no it is true, u can make ur own vcd's now. There are programs that let you do this. All he did was take all the episodes taht aneruysm encoded, and put them on vcd format, and madea lot of nice labels and menu's. i was thinking of doing this with the eps i have, but it takes a real long time to do, and i didn't think it was worth my time. Those are actually pretty illegal, but no one cares.

I'm not willing to pay that much money for episodes that someone DLed from the internet for free. I'll wait for the official DVD versions, and if those don't come out, then I'll be fine anyway. I've already survived more than a decade with only 5 cartoon videos. ;)

What pwdesai said, those are just the DiVX aneurysm encodes, converted to VCD and made some fancy labels and menus...i think it's a scam, you can just get them from the net, so paying for em is kinda stupid...but i guess people with slow connection will prefer to buy them.Sigh, to each his own :P
Here are some of the VCD pictures and some DiVX pictures, so that you can see they're the same:

As you can see they're pretty much the same episodes...and i'm sure the vcds are ilegal, what with breaking copyright rules and making money off other people's stuff and all...but whatcha gonna do, no one truly cares :P :ohwell:
If you need more pictures to compare you can go to http://tortugasninja.5u.com/1987.html and http://tortugasninja.5u.com/1988.html there are some more pictures taken from the divx files up to episode 15.

what does he mean by Dual VCD Menus?? and how could I do it?

Nickokapo
10-03-2002, 12:37 AM
Yeah someone bidded already :blanksta: is it me or 195 bucks for a homemade dvd set is too much? :ohwell: I'm pretty much against this kind of stuff...he shouldn't be selling what HE GOT FOR FREE :sweatdro: i would just wait for an official release of the tmnt dvds...not only will the quality will be much better (audio and video wise), but the creators will get the money they deserve...then again, the possibility of official tmnt cartoon dvds never seing the light of day or the people who can't download episodes for free because of whatever reason somehow justifies it a little bit...but 195 bucks is a rip off anyways, they're obviously selling it for profit. :sweatdro: And if the poor soul that bought that vcd set then sees an official dvd set he'll be the idiot with a lower quality copy of the set he *SPENT ALMOST 2 HUNDRED BUCKS ON*
Well...now i think there is more reason why i should join PWDESAI and make a tmnt distro, be it on imesh, kazaa, imazaa, kimesh or whatever...if the episodes somehow are more available, there will be at least a little less need of buying something that was meant to be free (i'm not talking about the cartoon itself, i still think it should get an official dvd release, i'm talking about aneurysm's divx encodes)
Plus they still are missing 3 episodes, nyah nyah nyah =P
And i don't know anything about Dual VCD Menus...in fact, i...don't...know...anything...about...VCDS :P well i know some stuff but i mean i've never made one because there was no need to...
I think what he meant by "Dual VCD Menus" was that you can choose between 2 different menus (one for the cartoon and one for the toys, according to the site) but as you might have guessed already, i have no idea how to make them.
You can go to www.vcdhelp.com...i haven't checked myself but you will probably find how to make dual vcds there, that's one of the best vcd sites ever!
And now if you will excuse me, i'll think of ways of distroing the episodes (starting by making an FTP topic)
I'm already sharing in kazaa (ahhh...once again. It will be pointless i know but it's worth the try) and i'll wait for the direct connect hub to be up again (if darthraphael wants to put it up again, that is...i dunno what happened to that)
Imesh crashes and i can't send by IRC (even tho there are fileservers in IRC and PWDESAI is sharing in imesh so thanks to both by helping out )
Eh, i should have made my post shorter. :embarass:

Nickokapo
10-03-2002, 02:15 AM
If they were selling it and only charging for the price of CD-Rs plus shipping i woldn't be so angry but at that price they're obviously bootlegging.
And they will probably get away with it:
http://www.geocities.com/ebayoyvey/ebaymorality.gif
In that pic, in the part of duplicated items' policies they said vcds of tv shows/movies/ "should not" be listed on ebay unless the seller owns the right of it...yet ebay is full of bootleg vcds...
edit: Hmmmm i found something interesting about ebay ignoring bootlegs at http://www.geocities.com/ebayoyvey/ and i thought i'd post it here:
EBAY IGNORES BOOTLEG PROTESTS

If you report a bootlegger, what happens? Usually nothing. That's because...EBAY LOVES BOOTLEGGERS. They'd rather get a commission on stolen merchandise than do the right thing.

We told 'em about this crud-ball who constantly posts huge lists of bootlegs. ( http://www.geocities.com/ebayoyvey/obviousboot.gif )
Now even a slum neighborhood pawnshop has more scruples than this. But eBay, they just shrug. It would take a personal letter from one of the stars before they'd take action. And only if ALL the stars being bootlegged complained, would the dealer even be suspended. Does this sound like a legitimate auction website looking out for fraud? How can eBay explain the way it allows OBVIOUS bootlegging like this?

Here's another dirt-bag who has many negatives and neutrals because he sells crappy inferior quality BOOTLEGS. ( http://www.geocities.com/ebayoyvey/bootlegcomplaints.gif )
Several times we e-mailed eBay about this guy. We wanted to make sure that several different eBay employees got the message. Well, not ONE of them thought that this dealer deserved to be NARU'd for being an OBVIOUS BOOTLEGGER. Call it stupidity, call it complicity. But don't call it an HONEST mistake.
So there you have it, most of the time ebay doesn't care about email complaining about bootleggers, after all that's another way for ebay to get money.

Piracy in its ugliest form. An incomplete series with handpicked

192 episodes on 64 VCDs?

So that's 3 episodes per CD.

A CD holds something like 700 MB of data, so each episode is about 233 MB.

The DivX episodes on IRC, clearly the source for these VCDs, each run about 50 MB.

So those VCDs are probably blown up to 2x the width and height of the IRC episodes.

At that resolution, the episodes that guy is selling are going to look like complete crap.

Nickokapo

Yeah, i don't know much about converting from avi to mpg but i guess there is quality loss...
Yay, there's a kazaa lite v2! :D *goes in search of the proggie*

Reznorite420
10-04-2002, 04:32 AM
Well, the whole process of converting avi files to VCD format involves turning the video into MPEG 1 layer format. Thus the files are bloated quite a bit.

Think of this analogy:

AVI -> MPEG:video :: MP3->WAV:audio

In other words, going from AVI to MPEG layer 1 bloats the file size a great deal just as decoding an MP3 back into a wave file bloats the file to 10 times its original size (more or less). It all has to do with compression and encoding.

From what I hear, the MP4 videos make AVIs look too big in file size. Let's hope they become a standard pretty soon :thyper: :thyper: :thyper:

Nickokapo
10-04-2002, 06:20 PM
Ohhh you were talking about that size...yeah that's one of the reasons why i dislike mpeg...a 320x240 20 minutes video is usually 200 mb or more :ohwell: Quality is good, but not that good...not really worth it :sweatdro:
If they were going to make vcds at least they could've done their own encodes so they would get a bit more quality for the size their using, but noooo, they gotta use the ones they downloaded.
I hope mp4 becomes the standard too!Well, digifansubbing groups are releasing their fansubs as divx files so i guess that helps a lot...same with dvd ripping movie groups, but both groups sometime use VCD to encode their stuff so it's not really the standard format yet...you can watch a vcd in a dvd player unlike a divx, i guess that's one of the reason there are still a lot of vcd releases.

If/When Mirage ever decides to release the old series, I bet they could easily put up to 6 episodes on a DVD. Infact, I actually figure the first two seasons could be placed within 6 disks.

Karpo_007

Well I dont think Mirage has any control over the release of the Original cartoon... MIrage just sold the rights to make a cartoon to Murakami Wolf(or something like that).

I would definitely go along with some network just airing the cartoon again. Just as long as it's not some network that will edit the episodes to make way for more commercial time.

*cough* Like the USA network! *cough*

Sorry, guys, I must have a frog in my throat. Just airing the episodes again would be a lot cheaper for everyone. Of course, with the DVD format, the quality would be better.

This wouldn't be a problem if some network smartened up and started airing the show again!

Yes, that could happen. Kids today may not appreciate the fluff of yesteryear, and that worries me. Even though I am not a big fan of the darker Turtles, I am trying to make an effort to at least respect them. Perhaps both series should be aired at the same time. It would be great for the old fans, and great for the new fans.

Tell me about it; I remember "Sky Turtles" being aired on USA in the morning one day, and they edited out the whole first part with the ladies in the dress shop! It went straight from Rocksteady, Bebop and company leaving leaving the Technodrome via Transport Module to the part where they surface in the shop. Now tell me this; for those of you that know the series, did you notice the lack of commercial gap between that part where they left and where the dress shop scene begins? I sure did! There was supposed to be a commercial break after you saw the module digging through the dirt.

Now that I think of it, I used to think the reason they left that part out was because that scene was a little sexist ("I have to go home and cook dinner for my husband!")...

Nickokapo
10-12-2002, 03:57 PM
Hmmm good point NTCF...cartoon network butchered dragonball z, sailor moon, and probably a lot more shows, sometimes re-doing scripts, leaving whole episodes out or cuting 2 episodes and make it one...argh...however tmnt is no anime (not seasons 2-10 anyways) so they probably would cut very little or nothing of it...then again, they could cut it so that they can air more commercials, that would suck :ohwell:
But i can't think of any other channel that would air tmnt, besides fox kids (or fox family like it's called in the usa i think...well it aired next mutation and is going to air the new series so why not air the old one too...oh wait a minute...isn't fox family the channel that cutted a lot of parts in the megaman cartoon so that they could air more commercials?argh...)

I don't know if any of the FOX stations would cut the show or not. They didn't cut parts of the show out when it aired on FOX originally.

Of course, that was back in the day when the Turtles were on top of the world. Network executives wouldn't ever consider cutting something with as big a stroke as the Turtles.

Nowadays, they could probably care less.

In case you couldn't tell, I'm a little bitter over the fact that USA felt commercials were more important than their programs. I wonder if they did that with all their shows? If not, what a kick in the shell that is.

That brings to mind what Fox has done to The Simpsons! Did you know they took out scenes in those eps too?
Like in the ep where they go on vacation and Lisa wants to find some friends. At the beginning of Act 2 there was a conversation where Marge mentions that the place they're going to is known as America's Scrod Basket.
BART: "I thought Springfield was America's Scrod Basket."
MARGE: "No, Springfield is America's Crud Bucket."
One of the best scenes ever placed into the show, and Fox cut it out. It pisses me off, because I used to have the full version of that ep! :tmad: I'm anxious to get a DVD player so I can watch the eps as they were originally.
