I enjoyed neither the first nor the second movie but I love all the books. I got into them rather lately (shortly before "Goblet of Fire" was releaed) and love every one of them. I can't wait for for book six ("Revolt of the Mudblood"?).

Me too, barkworm! Well, I did enjoy the movies, although the books will always be my favorite. They just are forced to leave so much out of the movies because of time or ratings or whatever. I had the second book before I even had the first, but didn't read it until I saw the first movie. Then I understood it more, lol. Now love them all! My friend and I had to share the fifth book when it came out, because we were on vacation and our books were at home. We read the book, one after another, in less than a day!
I, also, can't wait for the next book. It's gonna be awesome!

I liek the movies, bvut each one gets worse than the previous, as I said before. The books- my mom had the first four, and I Just read them... all in one day.
I bought the fifth book along with a HP5 hat and read it in a day.. XD
I then became the unofficail leader of the HP club at school because no one else payed attention to it. I made the website, too.

The looks horrible from the previews I've seen. Draco looks like bullsh*t, Hermione is wearing Muggles clothes, and the new Dumbledore sounds nothing like the previous.

Well... it's kinda hard to replace Richard Harris... I thought they did rather well, considering the circumstances.
I wasn't too thrilled with all the Mugle clothing, either... But, *sigh* what're you gonna do? At least it's Harry Potter, and it's going on the big screen. :)
I still think it's gonna be awesome.

I think Prisoner of Azkaban will be one of the best HP movies yet. Alfonso Cuarón directed the film, not Chris Columbus who focuses a lot on family/kids films (most of which I think are sh*te). Cuarón has an interesting approaching to directing, and I have no doubt he'll surpass anything Columbus has ever done.
Only thing I'm pissy about is the modern Muggle clothes the kids run around in. PoA takes place in 1993-1994, damnit.
I'm closet Potter dork. Damn you, Rickman!

i got the first book as a birthdaty present and started reading it but it bored me. I was always more interested in books like SCi fi related like star wars. The movies well i saw the first one and it wasn't horrible but it wasn't exactly picture of the year material
I'm not quite sure how the books got into our house, but they somehow all ended up in my possession. Reminds me, I should make them next on my reading list. Still waiting for the fifth book to be released in paperback. (Yeah, I'm so cheap. )

Then why bother posting anything at all? Spamerific! Anyways yeah I loved all 5 of the books and the movies are awesome but nothing beats the books. Yeah im thinking the 3rd movie will be better than the first two. All these movies coming out this summer! I can't wait! Only thing that will suck is that the kids are getting too old to do the upcoming books. Although I can't wait for the Goblet of Fire movie that one will be crazy long and great.

I disagree with that. They're already filming it. It's coming out October 18, 2005. I don't think they'll be too old by then.

They're definitely not too old. During Goblet o' Fire, Harry/Hermione/Ron are 14-15 years old. And like JD said, they're presently filming GoF. And how old are the main actors right now? 14, 14 and 15, respectively.

Are they really that good? I had instituted a policy where I boycotted the books with a passion, but I've been reconsidering it as of late.
I've never read the books, but my brother has, and he said they're pretty good. I'm all for fantasy books, really. Maybe I should give them a try whenever I finish my other books that have been stacking up.

I got hooked into the books because I'm an Alan Rickman fan, and therefore forced myself to see the movies a while back. I had boycotted seeing/reading them for the longest damn time, but finally broke down. I was quite surprised.
The books are whimsical, amusing, a quick read and the writing isn't dumbed down as to insult an adult reader's intelligence. Plus, there's an evil creepy guy hellbent on ruling the world: the staple of any good book.

I've read all 5 books, I just finished reading Chamber of Secrets & Sorcessor's Stone for the first time ever.
I wasn't a big fan at first but when I saw the first 2 movies i changed my mind about what i think about them.
I like Prisoner of Azkaban the most. I bet I'll enjoy the 3rd Movie the most as well. Hippogriffs, Demontors, Knights Express, Hagrid becoming a Teacher for Magical Creature Care, Hogsmeade, Prof. Lupin, Prof. Trelawney, & the Whomping Willow.
I don't care if Richard Harris is unavalible for Dumbledore's Role, I'm not saying he's a bad actor. Micheal gammon would do, unlike harris, but atleast we have someone to play him.
I don't care if the Kids get order. Their suspose to, cause the charaters themselves gain a year order in every book. Harry is suppose to be 13 cause that's the age limit for 3rd years.
Anyway I'll go see this movie since I enjoy Prisoner of Azkaban. With a new director, Gary Oldman as Sirius Black, & Timothy Spall as wortail, it'll be worth seeing.

It's funny that so many people boycotted the books. Fortunately I got into them two years before the first movie came out and the hype wasn't as big as it got later (or I just hadn't realized it). Otherwise, I might have done so, too.

They wear their robes during school hours.

I quite frankly remember them being in robes while in Hogsmeade in the books. And I've only seen Harry in muggle clothes while he's at the Dursley's in the movies.

I only read books 1-3 and they got worse everytime, and I just think that the whole Harry Potter franchise is annoying. I didn't like the movies either. I also saw the first one in german. And the movie coming up is that kid who plays Harry's last time doing it.

I agreed with what Harold Bloom said about the Harry Potter books. :goof: I read the first book and honestly I've got no desire to read the others...plus what really miffed me about the first book was the end, where they had to solve all those riddles and puzzles to get to the Philosopher's Stone. Typically I LOVE stuff like this in books, except in Harry Potter it wasn't possible for the reader to solve 'em because the characters had knowledge they didn't! Like with the bottles thing, a diagram was necessary there -- or at least some description of the order of the bottles as related to their sizes -- yet Rowling gave me nothin'.
I only saw the first movie, too. Bored the crap out of me. Plus the CG effects sucked. :goof:

I started on the fifth book a while ago and I finished it in no time, I just couldn't put it down. I stayed up entire nights reading.
I really enjoyed it, easily my favorite of the five books. I liked how the characters were a lot more human in this book (Maybe they were in the other books as well...I don't remember it anyway, so it obviously didn't impact me much if they were).
Bring on part six.

Wooo July 17th! That's when it comes out right?
Hono'o Hime
01-22-2005, 10:49 PM
The sixth book is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and is coming out July 16th. Rowling has already released information saying that "Half-Blood Prince" does not refer to Harry or Voldemort.
All of the books are good. I will admit that the first book can seem a little dry to some but the books just keep getting better after that. My advice is don't stop with the first book. At least try the second one and then if you really can't get into it at least you will have tried. I am a major fan of the books and own all the American versions in hard cover and the British in paperback.
The movies have been interesting but with each the directors have changed some stuff. It is interesting to see how other people view the books and make them come to life. I can not wait to see the Goblet of Fire and all the challenges for the Triwizard Tournament.
I liked all of the books so far. BUT the movies to the books are bot really good, because they leave important stuff out or add stupid stuff. I completely hate the movies. I hope, the sixth book is as good as the other ones, and they make a good movie out of the book. I mean it was a waste of money to go see the movies, JUST because of the adding and leaving out.
