Ooh, I remember those! Heh, wow. I haven't thought of those in a long while.

Off topic, the ice cream guy was in the town next to mine. I think they still sell those TMNT ice cream things, so I hope he comes here (which he never, ever does. Maybe once every three years or so. Literally.)

I would kill all of you if that's what it takes to convince them to make those again. But they'd also have to throw in a free case.

A case sent right to the cell, eh, Kittie?

This petition to Hostess (http://www.petitiononline.com/288/petition.html) is great. Few, if any of these types of petitions ever work, but it's nice to see a devoted Ninja Turtle Pie fan base.

I'm almost tempted to try to recreate the recipe at home. I've got plenty of green dye and vanilla pudding.

I don't remeber ever having any of the TMNT foods that used to be on the market back then. I don't remember even seeing them for sale actually. I'm sure some TMNT food made it to the UK but I just don't remember. Wish I could time travel back to early 90s America and try some. :P

TMNT-Leonardo

Ok, here it is. But please, who ever trys it out, post any changes while making this. I mean that if it doesn't make 6 crusts of pie post it. Or if you had to bake it longer post the time. Stuff like that. Enjoy!

:EDIT: Changed the instructions alittle. Not by much though.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES - VANILLA PUDDING PIE

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons green food coloring
3 cups Vanilla Pudding

DIRECTIONS:

1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, 3 tablespoons green food coloring and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in water until mixture forms a ball. Refrigerate for 4 hours or over night.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

3. Divide dough into 6 parts. Roll each portion pie crust into rounds (circles). Put 1-2 spoons full of Vanilla pudding on each round. The pies should look like beef patties, only green. Fold crust in half and close with fork tines.

4. Place on tray and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let rest before eating.

Optional Step:

Memorey differs from these pies. I've heard the original pies sometimes had green colored vanilla pudding. So if you want, you can add green food coloring to your pudding. 1-2 tablespoons per cup should do it (or just use the HULK vanilla pudding).

Good luck guys, let me know how it turns out. Any suggestions are also apriciated. Thanks.

Ok first, we've seen this already. Secondly, online petitions don't ever seem to work. Plus hostess said they don't plan to re-introduce them again so that's another big down problem. BTW anyone else try my Turtle Pie recipe. I'm thinking on making some changes since I never actually had one of the original. Was the pudding in there sometimes green? Cause that's what I heard.

:EDIT: BTW, here's the recipe slightly changed. From what I know from KINGFONDS (I hope that's his name) the recipe works. But I'm still working on it. Post any information you have on them. ANYTHING. I.E. if they were light green or something. That way, I can make them better and more like the originals. Not trying to replace them, but at least we have something to eat in the mean time. :) Now, the recipe.

TMNT-Leonardo
09-06-2004, 12:29 PM
LOL. Sorry, ha ha. All I really did was add more food coloring to make it more green. And less pudding cups cause with less tablespoons of it. From what you said, they burst if there's to much. lol.

I gotta try this out too. I'll also get some photos, or try to.

I agree that the whole presentation was part of it's appeal. The fact that it was a Ninja Turtles endorsed product, that it had the Turtles emblazoned on the packaging, that it included a free TMNT sticker, even the animated commercial; it all made the pies more tasty/palatable. I'm not sure how well I'd like them if they were just bought from some bakery, without all the Turtles tie-ins.

I mean, the new ones this bakery makes could taste EXACTLY like the originals, but if there isn't at least three different forms of Turtles media-merchandising slapping me in the face while I eat it, it just won't be the same.

I disliked them in spite of the tie-ins. For being pudding, that filling sure was runny. And, I know that a lot of my friends weren't too keen on finishing them either after a few bites.

That's what I meant. The fact that they were TMNT endorsed made them "more" palatable, which they weren't very palatable to begin with. :tlol: Thus, I might not like getting just the pies from that bakery, with no accompanying TMNT representation. If the Turtles aren't there to hypnotize me into thinking the pies "kind of" taste good, then the real flavor of the pies would take over. Basically; No TMNT, no sale. lol.

If this is true, need to order mine quick! haha Would make it myself, but don't have a deep fryer

Yes it's true. send them a msg on facebook if you want some. They're about $35 shipped for a batch. Not sure how many come in an order.

I worked at a grocery store when these were available, around 1990-91. I bought these all the time when I went on break.
Ended up with a bunch of stickers on my dresser and an old notebook.

I'd rather have chocolate filling than vanilla if I were to eat these.

OK dudes and dudettes It seems a lot of people want the turtle pies, but either cant cook or dont want to go through all the work the other recipe I have is. So here it is turtle pies for DUMMIES!

Pics in spoiler due to size and how many there are.
Heres what you need frozen puff pastry sheets, ready made vanilla puddin, vanilla glaze, olive oil or vegatable oil and green food coloring.

http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k563/superman15857/IMG_0105.jpg

Let the patry thraw out then cut it into squares.

http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k563/superman15857/IMG_1664.jpg

Fill with about a spoon full of puddin then fold over and pinch edges tight.

http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k563/superman15857/IMG_4212.jpg

Coat both sides of the pastrys with the oil. Place on cookie sheet bake at 400 degrees till golden brown.

When there done warm the glaze in the microwave. Pour in a bowl mix in green food coloring. coat both sides. Let cool and enjoy.

I'm going to order some of those knock-off turtle pies just to see what's what. Perhaps I'll be brave enough to try and make some on my own. :tsmile:

I guess it's all a moot point considering Hostess went the way of the dodo bird.

True,I was just amused that there was actually a recent petition. 2,700 is pretty low of a nymber to get anything done but just the fact that many had was like "wow I really should try it!". Who is to say that the Twinkies brand would not be bought by Little Debbie like how heroclix lived on after Wizards of The Caost went under under a similar company.

Memory slip. That was so three years ago and its not TMNT(yet) related so it was not important enough to remember.:P

Interesting name and welcome,RaphaelIsIsolation!

So you started an account just to pimp out your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Pies? If they're not "fresh from the sewer" to me, I'm no buying.

This forum along with many other pages are devoted to wanting them back. We happen to have brought them back. Merely letting you know. No need for you to buy them but many others on this forum have felt differently!

TMNT pudding pies were a staple in my diet. In fact Hostess pies in general were always something I enjoyed, they often had marvel or DC comics packaging or inserts. And then when they started doing the TMNT ones my pie obsession went into overdrive.

I used to have all the packaging and stuff but over time it's been lost :( I still have the memories though. I lived about a block from a grocery store around the time TMNT was at its height, and I'd walk there and buy these pies all the time with my extra money.

GOOD TIMES! :tlol:

If they re-introduced turtle pudding pies I don't know what I'd do. Yes, I'd buy them for nostalgia, but after 1 or 2 pies I think i'd be done :P It's just not the same as when you're a kid.

BTW this thread reminds me we NEED some Nick TMNT food tie-ins! McDonalds does not count -- those are just happy meal toys. What about TMNT cereal, or tmnt little debbies, tmnt mutagen slime soda, or... so many possibilities

Stingray posted his recipe here... (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=940883&postcount=45)

There needs to be a TMNT recipe book, no matter how deep into the depths of cooking hell it takes us.
