I was reading Return to New York, there is something about the katana deul with Leo and Saki that doesn't sit right with me. Why exactly does Shredder remove his armour? Wouldn't it be safer to keep it on? :-?

I haven't read RTNY, but that reminds me of the most recent TMNT game. Shredder removes his armor and claims that he can draw more power from it when he isn't wearing it. It was essentially a weird excuse used to justify having Shredder and Saki be to separate boss battles =P

No idea about RTNY, though...sorry.

some cowboys would remove their guns and fight fist to fist. jedi and sith remove their cloaks and robes before a duel. same thing?

just guessing.

Still, I remain confused over Shredder's stupidity, I mean, why not use all the blade-encrusted armour as both protection and a weapon?

Nah, you don't have to remind me. The real Shredder was killed by his own grenade.

well, I haven't read it, but it could be that the shredder removed his armor to gain speed. I mean, when you're wearing 80 kilos of steel on your body, it HAS to slow you down. So maybe he saw that he was losing and wanted to kill Leo with that little extra-speed

He took off his armour before he fought Leo.

im guessing, but i believe it has somthing to do with honor, like a duel to the death, people usally remove anything that would give them the advantage over the other person so its a fair fight and they can truely see who is the better fighter.
but thats just a guess.

I'm sure I'll get bashed for this, but here goes...

I haven't read any of the original TMNT comics. Was Saki an honorable adversary in the 'books? I'm just asking because the cartoon has me used to him as a dishonorable cheat. I know he was changed into an utrom for the cartoon, but I didn't know if they changed the amount of 'honor' he has as well =P

I think Anarky and major pain nailed it. I thought it was obvious

Shredder had good reason to believe that 1) He was a better swordsman than Leo and 2) He couldn't be killed. Plus the fight is certainly more honorable without his armor. In the comics Shredder was depicted as having very little honor but in this case he demonstrated some. Besides isn't it more badass to strip down to your ripped shirtless body when having a swordfight?

I think it may have been a kinda honor thinger, or maybe he was just being arrogant, because I mean, the guy was made out of worms, so I think he was under the impression that he couldn't die. :shredder:

Shredder just wanted Leonardo to check out his big piece...

...by that, I meant his Ketana blade...

Depends on your definition of "honor", really. I personally think its infantile to worry about issues of "honor" when it comes to life-and-death struggles. But, that's just me.

As for the "armor-stripping", Shredder probably removed it: a) so he could more capably wield his katana (the handguards would have gotten in the way of the hilts), b) so he would possess greater speed and mobility, and c) for the "shock value" that his wormed-out body would have on Leo.

Laterz.

I doubt he seemed like the fair fight kinda guy. Or the western sort of 'honourable' guy

The original did attack a defenceless woman and Hamato Yoshi. And even tried to use a grenade on the turtles. He also wears his opponents down using the foot

But that's what I think

Pride, honor, to think that his most hated enemy would end at his hands, bare hands, as he fought on Leonardo's terms, bare flesh, sword to sword. That he could defeat him on any level. though Shredder was evil in the comic, he never was really as sneaky or low as his other representations.
