Sorry if this has posted this before but this is a question that has always bugged me. Why ar the four TMNT's diffrent shades of green? Is it so we can identify them without their masks or something?

I guess you mean the new show right...? They were always the same shade of green in the old one. Though in the NES games they were different sahdes of green. Even when the arcade game had them the same shade of green, the NES version gave em different shades.

I thought they looked a little different shaded in the movies too. Aren't they also different types of turtle? I vaguely remember Raph being a snapper ;p

In Turtles in Time for the SNES, you could choose between "animation" mode and "comic" mode.

Animation mode had the turtles all the same shade of green and with pupils, while comic gave them their unique shades of green and removed the pupils.

Comic mode didn't give them all red bandannas though, for obvious reasons.

Also, the old action figures were shaded like that and I think that was before the old game and stuff, like a year before.

there's no turtles exactly like the other, why not? all four of my baby red ear sliders are all different, but it's really their yellow stripes that are different
Gives them individuality...

the movie desgins were all unique. Raph had darkers shades mostly, but his snout was a l'il lighter, and he has my favorite little feature, that little scar on his cheek. Donnie was a sort of olive green...Leo's like a basic boring green..matches his personality and Mikey ..i dunno what shade he is...fnky goofball green? heh.
All of them were mottled, but very subtle making them look very realistic. BUt Red Ears Sliders have yellow stripes not spots...

The different shades of green, along with the bandannas, were something Playmates did, in order to differentiate the action figures. Unlike the color bandannas, it didn't exactly stick, so it was rarely used in other media until the new cartoon came along. The original turtles, on the other hand were all the same shade of green, and remain so until this very day.

Personally, I like it. But I don't like when they mix up those colors. I had an old Pizza Power board game where Mikey and Don had switched flesh tones. Also, Raph in the new toon ijs a darker color than all of his toys have.

I like the different shades of green. I like Raph's the most just ahead of Leo's but on the figure Raph's is just plain ugly, the glowing radioactive green just isn't pretty

Buslady, what are the name of your red ears?

I had over 20(yes over 20) red ears plus a few red bellies and some cooters. All were hatchlings. I let them all go in the lake except four. Now that I have four I can tell them all apart and they all have names.

Davey - The biggest and prettiest shell
Watson - medium size w/ dark spots on shell
Tredwell - medium size w/ lighter shell
Spud - My little guy, my favorite (don't tell the others though)

Spud is seriously half the size of the next biggest one. However, he is the most fearless, the others are all pu. . . I mean wimps. Spud will always swim to the glass for some grub, the others scatter!!

Did you notice that in the Movie they kinda followed the TMNT roleplaying game, if you have the RPG book "TMNT and Other strangness" you'll see that Mike had the highest ranking for looks, followed by Leo, then Don, then Raph. And IMO their appearances in the movie also feel in that order.

I like them better with different skin color. They already look very similar to each other so this gives them a slightly more unique appearance.

It didn't really matter to me what their skin tone was.
