View Full Version : planet of the turtleoids question and interest question.
For Planet of the turtleoids, which I don't remember seeing, which was prime time. tvtome said there were continuity issues. was it true? It said the t-drome was underground, but tvtome and ninjaturtles websites said krang was trying to tree the t-drome from its ice cage, but part 2 on ninja turtles says still underground for the original technodrome. I am confused about where the T-drome was.
A post said planet of the turtleoids only aired once? Is that true? Why did it only air once?
ARe the ep lists right of planet of the turtleoids airing in season 5.
How long after planet of the turtleoids did fans start to loose interest? I was starting to loose interest in Fall 1992 or somewhere around that.

In this episode, the Technodrome was stuck in ice. However, it aired BEFORE the episode where it gets trapped in ice (My brother the bad guy I believe?) This is because it was a prime-time episode to start the season.
They didn't say much about it being in ice throughout the episode though, and I think only Shredder blurbed something about it once. They didn't really show it stuck in ice either. Not to the point where it was noticeable where it was, at least.
Usually, because of continuity issues, I put My Brother, the Bad guy and Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko before Planet of the Turtleoids for this reason.
As for when it aired, I only remember it airing twice ever. Once was the prime-time special. The other time was on a sunday in syndication a year or so later, for no apparent reason. It was weird because it was the only CBS episode I ever saw aired in syndication.
It has been said that this episode aired on USA in two parts, but I never saw it, and I used to watch every episode. But it is possible though.
The episode itself wasn't very special.

Well, it was an hour long episode, and at least for me it was special because they had Groundchuck and Dirtbag as well as Chrome Dome in it, and more fighting that the usual eps. It was shown in primetime as a special ep. I think later on they divided it into 2 parts for the regular saturday morning CBS eps.
For some weird reason the 'great cufflink caper' was also aired as a prime time special once, the ep where the TMNT pretended to be mobsters to know who was stealing cufflinks all over town.

I remember watching it as a 2-parter on USA, so it did get rerun. However, USA butchered their cartoons for time, so I'm sure lots of parts got cut out.

I do remember seeing the great cufflink caper on sunday. I remember louie telling the turtles to put babyface beaver clever on ice and shredder working with big louie, and this inventor making a toy doll. I remember seeing this ep alot, though I don't remember much of the CBS eps.

Yeah, it also had Tattoo which was pretty cool, but it was weird how he was just a hamster or something. Chrome Dome was ok, but the way they defeated him was so predictable.
I don't think they ever showed the episode as a two-parter on CBS, because I missed taping the first airing, and I'm pretty sure it never aired again on CBS.
Yeah the cufflink caper was on a thing called "toon nite" once, I thought they were going to rerun the Turtleoids, but they ran Cufflink Caper.

I think you're right. I remember seeing it for the second time on a Sunday morning.
And the prime time special was awesome -- I got to stay up until 10 watching it!

Why wasn't the ep speical?
The confusion was tvtome said it aired 1990 when it was put under season 5 and epguides say it aired November 1991 and the 2-parter was listed in the last ep. They don't say it aired before my brother the bad guy, but I will take your word for it. I just wanted to be sure because them airing it before my brother the bad guy can create confusion.
About the interest thing: WHen in 1992 did fans start loosing interest, winter, summer or fall? or was it starting waine in 1991. I wonder too because intrest would still have to be good since it got a primetime specal(which was the two parter). I remember loosing interest in the series when I was in 4th grade (the 1992-1993 school year). I know around 1992 fans were loosing interest because I did the toys were not as good as the 1990 and 1989 releases, the 3rd movie was bad, the craze then was not as big and it was put in on the USA cartoon express in September 1993, which was the scrap heap for cartoons. I know that 1989 and 1990 (which in the fall it was running on 2 networks) was the peak of the popularity. That was when my intrest in the turtles was at its peak and when i was in first grade (the 1989-1990 school yaer) that seemed to be the peak of the interest of the series because they had cerial at the time, the toys were the best, they released burger king toys and videoes(from BK), the movie came out, that was when I was most obsesed with the series etc. december 1987 was when the turtles thing started.

October 18th at precisely 5:34pm.

Out of curiosity, how did you know it was October 18th at 5:34 of fans loosing interest. WAs that in 1992?
For planet of the turtleoids, was it released on video. I am confused since there are eps called escape of planet of the turtles, return of the turtleoid. Why did Krang and shredder build a 2nd technodrome. I barley remember this and ep don't think I saw it since it was hard to catch since it was prime time, though I recall seeing the big cufflink caper on a sunday on primetime.

I'm not sure if that was a joke or if you actually remember the date and time that you lost interest in TMNT. Either way I find it funny.
tvtome said the 2 parter planet of the turtleoids was to introduce the first 4 seasons. What do they mean?

Yeah, this episode was released on video. That's actually how I finally got it on tape. I have since sold my tape though.
I think the first episode that made me groan was The Fifth Turtle back in 1989. But there were good episodes after that, and the series was still mostly good for awhile. I think when the Turtles made the move to CBS they got alot more cheesy and kiddy... the 1990 theme proves that, but I still did not lose interest.
The season that I really didn't care whether to see it or not was season 9 (1995), which introduced Carter and Dregg. The animation was worse than the season before, and the stories did not keep my interest.
