turtles on the USA cartoon express

I heard that when Turtles was on USA Cartoon express, parts where cut out? WHY? How much was cut of from each ep? Give scenes from each ep on USA that you remember being cut out. I am glad I never recorded the turtle eps on that channel. That is bad to do, that cut out sences of reruns.

I only saw the turtles on USA Cartoon express when I was flipping through channels and at most saw 2 minutes of the eps because by the time turtles went on Cartoon express (it moved out of WBLVI 56 in early September 1993 and was on USA Cartoon express from Fall 1993-early September 1996, what a conicdinence the very last ep of the series aired 2 months after it was taken off USA meaning 1996 was the END OF the series and 1997 was the real end since that was when it was taken off CBS and they stopped making new toys of the series) I lost interest. USA cartoon express seemed to be the channel of where shows go when people loose interest.

Most cable channels that rerun cartoon shows cut about two minutes out of them. I think it is because they are required to show more commercials. I have also heard that the Simpsons reruns have some edits.
USA did it when they actually showed cartoons, and i know they do it on other channels too. It is sad, yes... the show just isn't the same when it isn't complete. I'm pretty sure Cartoon Network does not do this though, and it shows all shows in their entirety.
In fact, I was watching Family Guy once on CN and they actually showed an extra part that wasn't on my dvd version.
So who knows, editing is weird.

I have those on tape somewhere, because I used to tape the TMNT on Cartoon Express sometimes. They were really bad animations. One funny one was where the turtles came down on parachutes and painted a tunnel for the cartoon express train to go through. Crazy.

They edited the hell out of GI Joe. I found a site once that showed comparisons between the full-length episodes and the USA edited ones. They really butchered them.

They did the same with Real Ghostbusters so all the episodes I own are from stations other than USA. Though Fox Family edited a few episodes for content and even banned one for it's devil-worshipping scenerio. Stupid soccer moms.

But the Cartoon Network does not edit their shows for length. They have a firm stance against that. God I love that channel.

And the Simpsons are editted even worse than anything USA ever did. Some of the best jokes I remember end up thrown away for more commercials.

Yeah, they even shortened the opening sequence and changed the credits so that they'd go by faster. I guess it's better that they take a minute from the opening and the credits than the show itself, but still...

Also, the entire Metalhead sequence from "Big Bug Blunder".

There was no need to edit them. No one wanted to see more commercials.

I agree with all of you about them cutting out scenes of reruns and that being awful. That may damage interest in people. That is low ofthem doing it from simpsons. I notcied cuts from simpsons reruns.

I don't remember anything in particular about what they edited in Return of the Technodrome. I don't think I saw the first season on USA. I saw and taped it from the channel it was originally on. If I had the episode on tape that USA was currently airing I would just watch the tape instead.

With the earlier episodes they sometimes cut nothing. For example, Curse of the Evil Eye and The Fifth Turtle were completely clean of edits. Anything in Season 4 and above had severe edits. Each episode had about 2 minutes of unnecessary scenes removed. Ninja Turtles Cartoon Fan can help me out with edits from certain episodes but here's what I can remember.
Cowabunga Shredhead-
Bebop and Rocksteady cleaning the hideout and saying "What does Shredder think we are a couple of house maids?" is cut.
The scene in Vinni's Pizza is cut to Vinni simply handing Mikey a soft drink.
Footage of the turtles hiding out when Shredder has the reprogrammed disk is cut.

Rock Around the Block-
Scene where Shredder and company first enter the rocket base is cut to them simply making the entrance with the transport module.
Scene with Bebop and Rocksteady fooling around with the controls is cut
The fight with Tragg is cut a bit short
All scenes with Vernon studying transendental procrastination is cut
Tower of Power-
All footage of the turtles on the ship to Paris is cut with the exception of them barfing from the pizza.

Polly Wanna Pizza-
Scene of Mugsy and his partner trying to attack a green wrestler for stealing his birb is cut

Nightmair in the Lair
Michaelangelo strolling on the beach and first meeting creepy Eddy is cut
Leonardo and Michaelangelo first meeting the spider is cut.
The scene where Milton gets hurt by going down the stairs in a chair is cut

Krangenstein Lives!
All scenes of Vernon searching the city for Krang's body is cut.

I'm probably missing some edits in each of those eps but those are just the ones I remember.

"Krangenstein Lives" I had taped from USA, and there were actually parts in the USA version that weren't shown in the CBS rerun...that's how I know this.
Also, in "Revenge of the Fly", they cut out part of the beginning, and started the episode a little bit later.
Just some useless info for anyone who cares...

I remenber watching TMNt on USA Cartoon express. But barely.

Nothing to say on the way it was cut.

but when they showed SatAM Sonic in 1995 they cutted out too much of it.
The Full versions are better to watch. i know a few people who are angry for the way USA Network to cut and edit SatAM.

Ya know, I would've begged you for a month for copies of those tapes a year ago, but seeing as the DVD's come out in a week and a half, these's little point in messing with VHS now. Besides, Family Channel edited the show down so much that by the time the series got to USA....USA sped the tape up 30%. It really sucked. The original broadcasts were on Fox Kids. That's what we get on the DVD's.....UNCUT! *does happy dance*

I have a whole tape of USA episodes somewhere.. not sure what episodes are on there though, it's been about six or seven years since I've looked at it. I know "the dimension x story" is on there. Did you know USA only aired that one time? It is because CBS started showing it in reruns. "Michelangelo Meets Bugman" only aired once on USA too.
Oddly, one episode that never aired on USA was "Enter: Mutagen Man". It was always skipped over.

Like others have posted, I remember being a little upset that various episodes were cut in favor of commercials. But I'm finding that it was wacky to air many episodes out of order. Do you really think USA did that to keep viewers by frequently "shifting" to different parts of the show? Also, even though USA had apparantly purchased the first 3 CBS seasons by that point, why is it that some episodes may have been missed?

Oddly, one episode that never aired on USA was "Enter: Mutagen Man". It was always skipped over.

I wonder if it's for the same reason Insane In The Membrane from the 2k3 show was never aired. I always thought Mutagen Man looked a bit too graphic.

I remember in The Foot Soldiers Are Revolting, they cut the scene where Shredder and Krang were in the life pod and Shredder wants Krang to jettison his body and Krang says his head is the most useless object.

Did they ever air any Red Sky episodes on USA Cartoon Express?

In all honesty, I barely remember what I saw of the series prior to the USA Cartoon Express airings of it and only have one ep on tape someplace. One of the awful (imo) European Vacation eps.

Anyway, I didn't know that they cut stuff out of eps.

I'm not sure that I ever even knew the turtles were on the network. I seem to remember seeing "Artless" on TV, but I assume that might have aired exclusively on USA.

Still, this situation always reminds me of how I would religiously watch The Real Ghostbusters when it was in syndication, but as soon as USA got the rights, I started noticing eps that I had never seen before.

I really wish I had dome of your memories...I don't remember much about watching TMNT, though I mainly watched my FHE tapes and I "moved on" to the Fox animated stuff (X-Men and Spider-man) in the late 90's and only happened upon TMNT occasionally, and I didn't like what I saw. In fact, I finally watched all of the "Red Sky" episodes in my recent TMNT marathon.

I recently received in a tape trade two discs containing airings of TMNT on the Cartoon Express from January 31 and February 1, 1994. Since USA had a long block in the morning and a short one in the early evening, it appears that during the first year of the show's run on USA, there were days were four episodes aired per day compared to two or three later in its run as I posted above. Weekdays (at least on Mondays and Tuesdays), two episodes aired at 7:30 AM/6:30 central (after GI Joe and before Real Ghostbusters) and two more at 6:00 PM/5 central. My main purpose besides the bumpers was to see what got edited out of each episode. I found that the syndicated episodes had 90 seconds cut, while the CBS ones three minutes. This was due to the Cartoon Express' longer bumpers, their In A Minute and Monster Bash segments, and in the case of the CBS episodes, more commercials. Interestingly on the Season 5 and Season 6 episodes, the Group W Productions (Westinghouse Broadcasting International for Season 6) bumpers after the MWS/Fred Wolf Films logos were left intact. The episodes that aired the first day were Peking Turtle, Planet of the Turtles, Shredder's Mom, and Four Turtles And A Baby. The following day contained in order My Brother The Bad Guy, The Ice Creature Cometh, Polly Wanna Pizzza, and Mr. Nice Guy.

I've checked four episodes, and here are the edits I've discovered. Runtime is based on the DVD releases beginning with the intro.

PEKING TURTLE

The second Technodrome scene from 5:43 to 6:14, the Channel 6 scene from 10:54 to 11:23, a snippet of April and Vernon in the News Van from 14:21 to 14:30, when some bats touch Raph from 17:49 to 17:55, and Shredder's line from 18:49 to 18:53

PLANET OF THE TURTLES

The scenes from 7:27 to 7:50 (including part of the Technodrome scene), a brief April/Splinter scene from 10:44 to 10:50, 12:54 to 13:16, 13:59 to 14:09 (with Shredder's "Foot Soldiers" overdubbing the next cut), and from 16:58 to 17:11 (where Don gives change to Rupert)

MY BROTHER, THE BAD GUY

The scenes from 3:12 to 3:24 up until Lt. Saki tells the two officers to stand in the corner, from 4:42 to 4:49 where Raph tells Lt. Saki that he’s a martial arts dancer, the entire scene from 5:55 to 6:35 with Leo/Lt. Saki in the Turtle Van including Shredder escaping with electronic equipment, from 8:22 to 8:35 where Shredder tells Bebop/Rocksteady to bring out to dummies. Then, from 8:35 to 8:42 as Shredder asks his Kojima Brothers if he understands his orders, it instead shows the scene of Bebop/Rocksteady carrying out the dummies instead of Shredder. Then from 10:54 to 11:23, the scene of Bebop/Rocksteady placing the hologram projector, along with the scenes from 12:01 to 12:40 with Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady at the Nuclear Plant and a short scene with the TMNT fighting the Kojima holograms, and from 17:02 to 17:24 when Bebop and Rocksteady are fighting some cops from a building.

THE ICE CREATURE COMETH

From 2:03 until 2:16 (the first Technodrome scene), the audio dialogue is pushed ahead for a few seconds while the section of 2:07 to 2:16 (inside the Technodrome) is cut, along with a few seconds of the Turtles extinguishing the fire in the sewers from 4:24 to 4:29, the end of the second Technodrome scene along with the entire third scene in the Turtles’ Lair from 5:08 to 5:35 as they continue to try to thaw out the refrigerator, along with the scene from 7:49 to 8:31 where Bebop asks the Ice Creature to attempt to free the Technodrome, the entire scene after the first commercial break from 9:28 to 9:45 where the Turtles in the sewer hear April telling about the Ice Monster attacking the city along with the first few seconds of the next scene, from 13:31 to 13:47 between scenes inside the iced up Channel 6 Building (along with a couple seconds of the next scene), the entire Bebop & Rocksteady scene from 15:03 to 15:30, from 20:12 to 20:19 when the Ice Monster attacks at the Defense Base, and during the end of final Technodrome scene from 22:12 to 22:29 when Bebop and Rocksteady mourn over the destroyed Ice Monster.


Of course the real draw is all of the commercials, from USA Network Kids Club (including a couple contest winners), the In A Minute shorts, and all of the toy commercials from Power Rangers to Biker Mice From Mars to Mr. Bucket.

Seeing a post on this thread for the first time in 4 and a half years, I just remembered some cut scenes I didn't find in any other posts:

Michaelangelo's Birthday: Rocksteady said you rang Krang?

Enter The Fly: Donatello: Who's bright idea was this anyway? Raphael: Yours! Donatello: well you don't have to rub it in (something like that).

Bebop and Rocksteady Conquer The Universe: almost all the scenes where Shredder and Krang try to find a cure for their fear.

Beneath These Streets: when the turtles saw an innocent person on the street they first thought was Shredder.

I'm pretty sure I had watched reruns of the OT on USA, but not sure if I ever remember footage of the episodes being cut down. I totally believe it, though.

I remember watching reruns of Super Mario World and the other Mario cartoons on either USA or PAX (I forget which one) in the late 90's. I definitely remember the episodes having parts cut out, and cutting to commercial much quicker than usual. I'm guessing this kind of thing happened with a lot of reruns.
