I'm guessing it only got delayed because of the attention it got so they decided to "tighten up those graphics" and add extra stuff when it was only meant to be a smaller indie release, they got a bigger budget to make it better and be able to meet expectations. Good news on the delay if that's the case.

thought she'd be using her camera more but it's full karate, but if all April's eventually get trained by Splinter why wouldn't this April?

Most people are taking that as a reference, but I think it is in there primarily to mirror the Turtles' shell slam animation.

Also... Team Attacks! (It reminds me a lot of Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers 2, oddly enough)

I wonder if there will be team attacks that are only available on 4-player co-op?

CyberCubed 08-25-2021 02:50 PM

It's safe to assume Splinter and probably Casey are playable too.

Also Rat King confirmed as a boss in that trailer. Hopefully we get all the classic villains as bosses.

Any word yet on voice acting? It might be minor, but the old cast is still available as we know and it'd be nice to see them apply their voices to the Turtles/April, etc.

April as a playable character is pretty cool, But don't be surprise if they introduce another playable character in another trailer, My money's on it being Splinter.

April is not a combatant which makes her playable underwhelming. However, Rat King as a boss is cool. He is using his hypnotic flute to control rats. The Footski that he used in Turtles in Time is present but looks more like a prop reference.

neatoman 08-25-2021 06:47 PM

I know they probably won't be in the game, but I wouldn't mind Fugitoid and Renet in this game.

CyberCubed 08-25-2021 07:36 PM

What I find interesting is this game keeps the multi-colored Foot Soldiers, which is something only from the classic Konami videogames. In the original cartoon they were always purple through the whole show and they were never any colors.

The old games came up with orange, red, green, pink, yellow, etc Foot Soldiers and it's something that has only ever continued in the games and never appeared anywhere else in canon.

April's "shell slam" technique confirmed not to be an Aska reference, but Street Fighter's Mika:

So, April has at least two explicit Capcom references (the other being Chun-Li's "Rising Legs." Some folks say her walk animation is inspired by Cammy.

Inspiration also drawn from Cynthia Rothrock:

Well said!

Nothing worse than someone who just can't admit they were wrong. Also wrong to call it a "delay" when an original date was never set to begin with.

Looking at the title screen it doesn't seem like there's much room for additional characters. April was added to the right, there's space on the left for Splinter most likely but perhaps that's it unless they completely redo the art. Rescue-palooza just makes it seem like anyone can be in it. But talking 1987 cartoon they didn't have that many allies fighting with them on the average episode so I guess they aren't necessary.

And yeah well I was wrong about the game not coming out this year, but I don't think my statement is too out there, it's also wishful thinking of me wanting the game to be as good as it can thinking it might've gotten more money thrown at it. For example they mentioned the animated trailer was only made for the reveal but weren't planning to include more in the game but they'd see about it, perhaps we'll now get more of those.

Well the old games were clearly meant to be an adaptation of the cartoon even if they really weren't and felt more like their own take on the franchise. This game does seem like the 1987 Cartoon game we never got, as in it actually resembles the show.

The foot soldiers are just a reference to the old games it's inspired by but "correcting" everything else. I personally would've preferred this to be more TMNT VI continuing on the games "continuity/world" whatever you want to take, which had OT influences but was its own thing but I can't complain if it still looks great.

Splinter was in the trailer advertising April as a playable character.

CyberCubed 08-26-2021 11:05 AM

It's kinda sad knowing this game may be the last decent Turtle game for a long time. Everything else is mobile only, and I can't see them making a big 3D console TMNT game again at this point.

TigerClaw 08-26-2021 02:58 PM

I love that April does a mic drop after beating an enemy.
