"Mobile Games." Feh.

CyberCubed 03-15-2021 05:18 PM

Mobile phone games aren't "real" games. You have a demo of a game and you have to continually pay real money or gamble to see the rest of the game. It's absurd.

That's why "real" games will always be superior. You buy a game and it comes complete besides if you want to get any DLC for it, but the core game is finished for you to play.

You don't have to pay real money to play it. You can unlock that stuff. But you have to play for hours, weeks, months or a year to get all the good stuff.

My issues with the mobile games is they get repetitive after a while, and your playing the same missions over and over again just to grind.

sdp 03-15-2021 06:18 PM

Yeah, you're still paying but with your time, for me it's actually more expensive to grind than to buy the microtransactions. They also aren't "full" games it's more of a "waste your money to get these characters you like", they prey on completists. I hate them and yet I still get tricked to play one every once in a while.

Andrew NDB 03-16-2021 02:10 AM

Well, nothing's worse than the Capcom model. Add a couple of fighters and a word to the title and resell the same game at full price, over and over again. Same as if it's 1993 all over again.

Leo656 03-16-2021 02:39 AM

I think the differences between "Super Street Fighter II" and "vanilla" SFII were rather substantial, enough to warrant its existence at least. At the same time, it didn't feel quite different enough to earn that coveted "SFIII" title. But it was still a marked improvement over the original.

Having played the entire series comprehensively for the very first time last year, thanks to the handy Anniversary Collection, the nuances between all the different releases really jumped out at me.

I mean it's a very fashionable criticism of that series, and it's not altogether untrue (the common joke back then was that nobody at Capcom had ever learned to count to III and so we were stuck with all these "updates"), but they DID make some pretty substantial tweaks and improvements as the games went on. It would be harder to swallow if not for the fact that the "upgrades" did substantially improve the graphics, animation and gameplay.

It just got on people's nerves at the time because they were all like "Enough! Get to SFIII already!" And then they did, and nobody liked it as much as II anyway. Some could argue that they simply withheld it for too long; I personally think it was because they removed too many iconic and popular characters, at least initially. The truth was probably a little of both. I *think* I like the Alpha series better than the III series, but it's kinda hard to say, as I'm not particularly good at SF in general and my experience with each of them is very limited.

Regardless... as easy as it is to poke fun, the games back then did improve incrementally with each addition or "upgrade", so I really can't take much issue with that. As for nowadays... whole different conversation.

Yeah, it was fine in the 90s. Mostly. But in an era when DLC and all that is the norm... they're still doing it? In the 2000s, 2010s and now? Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Leo656 03-16-2021 02:53 AM

I would definitely expect that in the Here and Now most of those upgrades would indeed be DLC, yes.

I've yet to play SFV anyway, though. The most recently-released one I played was... Ultra SFIV, I think? Can't remember if it was Super or Ultra. One'a them!

The one I've played most recently was the SFII HD Remix that came out some years back, which I'd completely forgotten to download until recently. Pretty spiffy!

I did get that... way back on PS3, I think.

I get what you are saying but i don't agree completely. Although is true that beat-em-ups aren't the most cretive type of games, i think we've come a long way since "Renegade" or "Final fight". They CAN evolve into other stuff, mixing them with other genres or adding new mechanics like multiple paths, improving in controls, etc. Will this be the case? Well, will have to wait and see. Whatever it is, i just hope it is a great fun game, even if it means then sticking to that because it sells.

Which brings me to what i DO agree with, i would like seeing other genres and tackling the Mirage verse for once. But sadly, i guess it's going to take even longer for that ever happening.

oldmanwinters 04-13-2021 06:09 PM

Just over one month removed from the reveal of the game and not a single new reveal or "leak" of gameplay footage or concept art. I find that strange.

RaphaelinSTL 04-13-2021 06:15 PM

I’m still thinking we got a year before the actual release date. The Streets of Rage 4 DLC has been their focus as of late. Guess we’ll see.

Iroh 04-13-2021 09:53 PM

I am sad to say this but I feel this game is going to become boring after a one time playthrough. By the look of the graphics and by what we have seen, I feel that this game will be going to the clearance bin quickly. What I would like to see in a TMNT game is the mirage comics black and white motif with the cell shaded characters. Let us play through the 80s comic storyline first. Then, let us venture through to some IDW comic storyline too. The game will progress from black and white to color and the characters would evolve according to the art style in the comics. It may be just me but THAT will be a game worth buying!:tgrin::tcool:

Kind of like all of the other TMNT Final Fight clones.

Nah. They're the perfect length for what they are to be infinitely replayable. Especially co-op. One of the best things about those old beat-'em-ups is that they don't stick around long enough to wear out their welcome. Hour and change, and you're on to the next thing.

It's like, I always have a half hour to burn through TMNT Arcade or Turtles In Time if I feel like it. Something like "Elder Scrolls: Oblivion" is a hundred thousand times "bigger" and "better" as a game in every way, but I have a very strong feeling that once I'm done with it I'm gonna be "Done" with it. That's the downside of THAT kind of game.

I think someone just plain doesn't care for beat-'em-ups. :trazz:

Good beat 'em ups are almost therapeutic. I'm sure they've helped to keep me from every seeing a real therapist. J/K :tlol:

OH ****.

I was wrong, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge was on today's IndieWorld Showcase from Nintendo and they announced it'll be released later this year.

Showed gameplay too, but I've been in a work meeting - haha.

Nintendo Switch confirmed!

Also Roadkill Rodneys confirmed via the extended gameplay in the Indie Showcase.

It was basically a no-brainer, but really happy to have this confirmed for the Switch. Already have it wishlisted and am eagerly awaiting more.

Not really - none of TMNT beat'em ups are really that long and boring, like Final Fight and more complex / realistic beat'em ups.

Bebop being boss of Channel 6 is amusing.
Channel Hog?

RaphaelinSTL 04-14-2021 12:45 PM

I finally had the chance to play through Streets of Rage 4 over the past week and a half and I've fallen in love with it. I was getting pumped on this game and it really sent me over the moon knowing the team behind that is also behind Shredder's Revenge.

Also, it looks like Tee Lopes will be doing the OST for the game and his score for Sonic Mania was awesome. Hopefully that means a vinyl release of the eventual score at some point too.

If I had to guess, I'm thinking it'll be later in the year (I was totally wrong assuming it'd be a 2022 release) ... but I'm REALLY hoping this bad boy comes out during the summer.

Can't wait! It's a good time for retro gamers and TMNT fans for sure.

CyberCubed 04-14-2021 12:53 PM

Unless Breath of the Wild 2 makes it out this year, this is probably going to be GOTY. I mean there's not much competition this year besides Resident Evil 8.

What, no consideration for Cyberpunk 2077? :tlol:

CyberCubed 04-14-2021 01:33 PM

Even if that game was actually good, it still came out last year.

I'm not counting Mario 3D World since it's a port of a Wii-U game from 2013 (though Bowser's Fury is nice its only 5 hours long).

Nintendo doesn't have much this year unless Breath of the Wild 2 makes it this holiday. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes look incredibly disappointing and barring any surprise announcements at E3 there's not much else they could have besides maybe a 2D Metroid. (Splatoon 3, Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon Arceus are all 2022 games).

For Sony I'm certain Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and God of War aren't making it this year. So they basically just have Ratchet and Clank and some mid-tier games. Resident Evil 8 is the only big release coming soon (again I'm not counting ports/remakes of older games like the Mass Effect trilogy). 2021 feels like an off-year for games, all Microsoft has is Halo Infinite this Fall really.

sdp 04-14-2021 02:44 PM

E3 is in June I'm sure lot will be revealed there that comes out this holiday and this game even if it gets good reviews won't be GOTY because it's a beat em up and not a bad movie that you play between cinematics.

Roseangelo 04-14-2021 05:51 PM

Definitely need this. Right now.

CyberCubed 04-14-2021 08:39 PM

Is anyone else going to call this, "TMNT 6: Shredder's Revenge?" It's pretty obvious this is intended to be canon with the classic Konami games.

TMNT NES
TMNT II: The Arcade Game
Turtles III: The Manhattan Project
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
TMNT V: Hyperstone Heist

There's also the Gameboy Fall of the Foot Clan, TMNT II, and TMNT III Radical Rescue but back in the day all Gameboy games got separate numbering from console games.

Finally...after nearly 30 years...the classic Konami universe of TMNT games is back. This game is canon in my mind with all the old NES, SNES, Genesis and Gameboy TMNT games. The classic games were also a nice mix of the original cartoon, Archie comics, and Playmates toyline all combined into one and that's why I loved it.

iT WILL be the best action game of the year like all TMNT games are. But i play all action games anyway. So for rest of the year i will also play nIER remake(releases next week already preodered for pc), biomutant, re8(both also preodered on pc) days gone(pc) next sonic game, sniper ghost warrior contracts 2, Ghostwire tokyo, next call of duty shadow warrior 3, evil west, alex kid, necromunda et.c. But all these arenothing comapred to my own new game TMNT SHREDDER REVENGE where iw ill take my REVENGE as the title says. They must start making TMNT games each year!

sdp 04-15-2021 09:35 AM

I can't believe that TMNT 6 is coming out this year, we had to wait since 1992 for a sequel to TMNT 5.

Not really no. Those old games were based on the show but also a mix of stuff like the live action movies, action figures and whatnot. This one is strictly gonna be based on the cartoon show.

Unless we start seeing weird stuff like Karai and Hun as bosses, which I doubt.

sdp 04-16-2021 07:55 AM

There are official blue/red/purple/orange joycons so technically people could play their fav turtle with the same color controller

that would be boring and I'm afraid they'll go this route

MikeandRaph87 04-16-2021 08:27 AM

It may go the same route Mutant Madness did and give non-1987 cartoon characters a 1987 cartoon aesthetic like with Ace Duck( ignoring the blink and you miss it cameo on their television set),Renet and Savanti Romero among others.

There's definitely a strong connection to the Konami games with this one. Plenty of direct callbacks with different colors of foot soldiers, flying weapon foot soldiers, and the throw into the screen move. The game even features the Turtle Tenderizer 4X4, an unreleased vehicle that was featured in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project.

I don't expect to see too much stuff far removed from the OT but I wouldn't discount characters like Karai, who did appear in a couple of classic Konami games.
