Star Wars: The High Republic?

Is this really what it's going to be like?

Oh my...

Has anyone read any of the material? What do you think?

I've been holding off so far. The previews didn't wow me.

I'm 22 chapters into Light of the Jedi by Chares Soule, and I've been liking it so far.

I've also heard positive things regarding Into the Dark by Claudia Grey, which I still need to get around to reading.

Both of their previous SW works are pretty well regarded in the fandom, so if like those you'll probably like their HR books.

Apparently this Claudia Grey is a big SJW, and thinks the Force is about... kindness? Huh?

Um yeah....I'm not clicking a link to a website that unironically calls itself "Disney Star Wars Is Dumb". Dumb title that clearly shows bias.

And I'll probably regret asking this, but what exactly is wrong with someone thinking the Force is about "kindness"? Especially when that someone has written several well received Star Wars novels?

They are kind, lightsaber wielding people.
#TransDayOfVisibility what?

Because that's scarily stupid for someone working on Star Wars in an official capacity to say.

Hint: the Sith. They use the Force, too.

By whom, exactly?

The Sith are the ones who cause unbalance in the Force everytime they draw power from the Dark Side. What's your point?

By everyone who has actually read her books, as well as the rest of the new canon novels and comics. Which you clearly have not.

Is that a new Disney thing? Because how would using only one side of the Force do anything but imbalance the Force?

No, it is not a "Disney thing". George Lucas himself said it years ago. True balance in the Force means the light side is dominant, the dark side is the corruption.

OK, where's the quote?

That's, like... the opposite of what balance means.

Hey, I didn't write the rules, Lucas did. You want to complain to him, be my guest. I've said my piece and I'm bowing out.

Kindness to whom exactly? Losers and rapey psychopaths?
I think there are more people deserving kindness. Even, when it comes to "force".

It is said, that this insanity infected once respectable franchise.

Where's the quote? Where's the damn quote? :D

The writing around the Force has been inconsistent but, yes, originally it wasn’t Light Side vs Dark Side it was “The Force” proper vs “The Dark Side.” The Jedi believe in maintaining the natural balance of the world, the Sith believe in forcing it to their will. One could argue that was why the Jedi becoming generals in the Clone Wars played into the hands of the Dark Side. They were meant to keep the peace, not fight wars.

Again, the writing has become terribly inconsistent over the years but initially it lines up with the idea of evil as the corruption of something originally good as opposed to being an inherent opposing force that balances the other out.

Like any other super ability or source of super abilities, The Force, is whatever, current writer wants it to be.

Nominally editors should control this stuff, but with 30+ years of content no-one gives a ****. Aside from it, most writers just want to do something cool, even if it should not work with the lore.
