So I went to the gas station last night. Got one of those huge pickles, a smallish bag of pepperoni, and one regular-sized unsweetened green tea.

$40.

Not that bad. That's crazy.

Most I seen is the 5 for 20 deal at Giant Eagle went up to 5 for 25 and Dollar Tree now sells everything at 1.25.

At it's peak it cost me the same amount of money to fill up my 4-cylinder Daily Driver with 87 as it cost me in 2020 to fill up my ZL1 with 93. I keep copious financial records as part of my financial growth process. So, for example on 06/12/22 I spent $70.70 to fill up a 4-cylinder Trax with 87 at a 3rd tier station. On 09/25/21 I spent $60.00 to fill up my ZL1 at a Shell gas station with 93.

My weekly grocery shopping is an absolute joke as far as money goes now. Basically on a "light grocery week" I'm spending the same money I used to spend on a "big week" (aka the kind of week where everything catches up to you and you need to buy all of the stuff that lasts a while like toilet paper versus weekly-only needs like chicken breasts).

I still throw some disposable income into things like action figures from time to time. Mattel embraced the Masters of the Universe: Origins line back in 2020 as a way to appeal to both the middle aged collector as well as kids who can play with toys. It was a great idea. In mid-2020 I bought Skeletor and He-Man for $16.12 after tax. Just today I received my BBTS order with the 200x He-Man and Skeletor in the shipment - they cost me $20.84 each where the shipping amortized to about $1.85 per toy in the shipment. So basically MOTU O figures - a truly mass produced line with uniform sculpts and interchangeable body parts (a cost-per-piece producer's dream) now cost $18.99 each rathe than $16.12.

Only the super rich haven’t, and they tell us lower class citizens to suck it up. That, and “Yay, socialism!”

How big a pickle?

Maybe 7 inches. But super girthy. The same kind I've bought at grocery stores in the individual bags for maybe $2 previously.

I can get 3 chicken tenders, 2 hashbrown sticks and a regular sized drink at Kwik Trip for just under 9 dollars. Obviously not the same as a pickle and pepperoni but in comparison I can get more for a lot less.


Your gas station is definitely ripping you off!

In my experience, gas station prices tend to be jacked up any way. I can get a two liter bottle of Coke at Dollarstore for exactly 20 SEK, but the gas station will charge about the same for a 50 centiliter bottle.

How much would those items cost at your local supermarket?

Only the same gas price issue -- though I most recently paid $3.79 vs the $4.99 it had been at most so it's getting better -- and some grocery costs are up that annoy me every time because my Walmart is really bad about keeping the correct prices on the shelf.

How expensive is a state that a pickle, bag of chips, and tea cost that much? Mine isn't the cheapest state, but that is absurd and $40 for those few things sounds more like a local problem! Cripe, even our most expensive grocery chain, that I don't shop at much because it alone is a bit absurd, would still net a person a bit more for that $40 unless someone is just buying all the most expensive crap.

It's not the cost of the pickle that gets you, it's the batteries.

It's times like these I'm glad I don't need a car. I keep hearing horror stories about gas prices. Subway fare is up to $2.75 a trip now when just a few years ago it was only $2.00 for a ride.

Bidenflation is killing me... slowly. Without lube.

Sounds about right for two weeks and pretty much the same as me, though I have the benefit of keeping a sizable vegetable garden. That and an obscene daily supply of fresh eggs really help keep costs down.
