So this quote makes me a little nervous that the new game mode is essentially what the Mr. X Nightmare DLC from SOR4 was—a rush of characters to fight in different static background areas.

It was fun for what it was and I sunk a lot of time into it, but if you messed up and didn't get a better score it didn't feel very rewarding, haha.

While the backgrounds and environments look super fun, it makes sense with it being called Dimension Shellshock in that you travel to different Dimensions (static backgrounds) with different characters in the background probably each time with a variety of baddies to fight.

Hoping I'm wrong as I just want more additional stages and stories, haha. Either way, playing as additional characters like Usagi and whoever else gets revealed and leveling them up is a damn treat.

Moreso from that interview I read it as they were focused on him as a reveal first! I think the Dimensions looked pretty expansive from the shots they showed (all those retro NES looking areas, haha) but we'll have to see!

But the fact we have characters from the archie comics is saying something, This is first time Ninjara appears in anything outside of the comics, Even if just a background character, Its still quite a huge deal for some including myself.

This might also mean something was worked out over the Ninjara rights, Because we all know that Alopex was a character that was modeled after Ninjara when the rights to her didn't carry over when Viacom bought the IP.

If you look closely at the trailer there is footage of NON-single "splash" screen looking areas. Areas that are clearly meant to be horizontally scrolled by as you move. But these areas don't look too exciting. Like at :38.

I don't think that's true at all. They were able to use all of Steve Murphy's creations except for Ninjara? What would possibly make her a special case, legally? I think IDW just thought the name "Ninjara" was stupid but they liked the general idea of her.

Yeah I don't think these are full new stages. Basically single screen boss rush/battle royale type stuff. Ah well.

We probably have to wait for a sequel for all new levels.

I had always heard that they were wary of Ninjara because they didn't want to be associated with her appearances in furry comics or possibly the Mirage created porno with her.

We actually don't know that she's not off limits. IDW changed Venus considerably and I'm not even sure if she's Mei Pieh Chi at all? Could be they had to change her at least 50% to legally use her.

Considering we're already getting Archie characters as background cameos, if they do a sequel they'll definitely do an Archie universe game. It makes sense too, the Archie series looks the most similar to the original cartoon universe and to casual fans they wouldn't know or think it's any different. You can even still use Shredder, Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady, etc if you want.

Tournament Fighters already mixed in Archie characters with the original universe given we got Armaggon, War, the Archie version of Wingnut, etc. So this would be the same.

Which was always awkward to me, since FW has a lot of characters on its own and Konami had a weird idea to bring most "Who?" characters from Archie series.

That's not an unpopular opinion, that's just plain factually incorrect. At its height the Archie series was selling nearly 200,000 copies a month. IDW and even Mirage are "niche" compared to the success and audience TMNTA had.

Still, I don't think that War and Wingnut are the most popular or known characters from it.

Part of the series was published in Russia either as separate magazine and some issues were included in other publication, like some video game magazines.
Though I don't think it was legal.

I actually liked the more unique roster in the Tournament Fighters games, it felt like they were trying to do something different. I was introduced to Armaggon via the game before I read the Archie comics he was in, and I thought it was cool there was a shark mutant I had never seen before.

In the NES version I knew who Hothead was due to the Playmates toy, so that was fine. Genesis had Man Ray, a Triceraton, Karai, etc...so it was a nice mix of characters we don't usually get. Also Chrome Dome was only ever in Tournament Fighters, he was never a boss in any of the classic games so it was the first time he was in a videogame.

That Archie series first 12 issues went to multiple printings - sometimes up to 8th printing. :lol: That's basically more newsstand reprints than any other title in history.

If we had more TMNT fighting games, I wouldn't had anything against obscure characters, but when you have only 3 games, locked on different platforms, I'd prefer to have more popular faces first and everyone else later.

Yuki Matsuzaki will be reprising Usagi in Shredder's Revenge! (After previously playing him in the 2012 show as well as Samurai Rabbit on Netflix.)

Was hoping he'd be on board for this. Really neat how he's kind of become the "official" voice for Usagi.

As much as I didn't mind it when it was first done in the 2003 cartoon, I do continue to be annoyed that this is forever what the character is and likely will always be in every succeeding iteration of the franchise ever.

I do think there's a clear distinction between something that gives off furry vibes, and simply having a humanoid animal, personally. Particularly since the Mirage series only ever had the 4 turtles and Splinter (and later Leatherhead), while the Archie series had mutants (most of them people that take on animal qualities, rather than just animals that got mutated) pretty much out the wazoo, and also clearly drawn a very different way than the way the brothers, Splinter, and Leatherhead were drawn in Mirage. Maaaaaybe this is just my own interpretation, but I always felt like those characters were more like "creatures" in Mirage, while in Archie they do give off more powerful furry vibes. Same with IDW, particularly with Mutant Town.

Love how Leo's Rise-based colorswap even includes his little red-eared slider marks. Great attention to detail.

I also spy Pizzaface, Hothead, Kerma, Cudley, a Mirage-or-2k3-style Fugitoid fleeing ARMAGGON in deep space (which is a Nick reference, so great touch), and 2k3-style colorswaps for April, Casey, and Splinter. They definitely littered this DLC with unabashed fanservice. Also looking forward to seeing if there's any kind of big reward for maxing out the crystal progression.

So it is indeed just single screen survival mode, and no new stages as expected. Somewhat disappointing, but I hope it's not expensive. If this is $19.99 or more I'll probably wait on it. I'd get it for $9.99 though.

I imagine it'll probably have equivalent pricing to Streets of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare. (Which was $7.99.) REALLY don't see it costing almost as much as the base game's $24.99.

I do hope its cheap, Usagi licensing cost may add up though.

I wouldn't doubt there will be additional characters to play throughout the game, but I wonder if there will be survival, new characters, and other stuff?

I'm probably wrong, and it's basically just what SOR4 had, but slightly updated. The survival mode looked fun enough though with being able to change into the different villains.

I REALLY hope they're able to keep the license long enough to do a sequel.

On a long enough timeline they will do a discounted package deal of all of the DLC.

Either that or re-release the game with all of it included on a new disc or full-game DL package.

Dimension Shellshock gameplay from Playstation Underground. They mention a "mysterious figure" setting the events of Survival Mode in motion, so I'm guessing that means a new boss. (Or a potential tease for the second DLC character.)

Dimension Shellshock was only ever advertised as adding new playable characters (including Usagi), a new game mode (Survival), and new palette options. It's definitely smaller in scale.

Yep, there's no real new stages. Just Usagi is playable and a survival mode.
