TMNT Annual 2020

Tom Waltz said this in a Reddit AMA held just an hour or so ago:

Quote:

TW: Hearing it first (or should I say, reading it here first?) -- I'll be writing a 30-page annual (released in June I believe) that will fill in some gaps between Splinter's funeral (Sophie -- that made me cry, damn you!) and the "Six Months Later" time jump in issue #101. The Annual will include some of the side characters mentioned above. As for Sally and Alopex, Sophie's doing some AWESOME things with both those characters in the current arc. Keep reading!
Edited to add: Source.

Sorry, I completely forgot. I'll edit the first post to add Igglet's contribution.

TW: I'll be addressing LeatherKrang (as all the cool kids call him now) in the TMNT 2020 Annual in June. I'll be doing some gap-filling with him (them?) as well as Shredder, Kitsune, Karai, etc., before Sophie takes it all to the next amazing level in the ongoing. Stay tuned...
So... What are the odds LeatherKrang (huh) is a one-and-done thing for the Annual? None of us even considered that.

Igglet 01-08-2020 03:07 PM

You're welcome!

I honestly doubt it'll be a one-and-done thing, the replies seem to imply that the annual will go over all the stuff that was left open-ended after the timeskip. 30 pages isn't enough to deal with LeatherKrang AND the Shredder, Kitsune, Karai, etc. Plus, it would be an outright super weird choice from a writing perspective.

and just like that tom waltz saved us from the confusion of the timeskip. awesome!

I agree, but odds are good it'll at least be front and center to the plot of the annual, to at the very least kick off the parasite!Krang arc like, say, Desperate Measures kicked off the EPF arc. There has to be a damn good reason why the Turtles are suddenly okay with letting six months lapse without doing anything about Krang, even more so if they know how dangerous his reemergence is (or seems to be, as per Honeycutt).

Yep, he just cut back on pretty much all the apparent negative aspects of #101.

Rooish 01-08-2020 03:24 PM

Right on. You didn't give us much chance to whine about that time skip, Tom! Looking forward to reading your work again.

The annual is only 30 pages? Weird, seems kinda short, right?

I agree considering that the previous two were 64 (60 story) and 52 (48 story) pages long respectively.

This is definitely starting to remind me, in a way, of Mirage vol 4. Between a big change in status quo in both, we now have a significant time jump here just like in vol 4. Subsequently, stories were done in Tales of the TMNT to fill in gaps from that six months.

And not only that, but both were six month time gaps, and both status quo shifts involved the wider public becoming aware of all the weird stuff. Only a matter of time before Velociraptors show up-

wait...

CyberCubed 01-09-2020 06:21 PM

I think the 6 month gap was also done so Tom Waltz could theoretically write a whole bunch of stories in that gap like this annual without interrupting what Sophie is doing.

benea 02-18-2020 02:18 PM

when is the annual coming out?

Possibly June, but it's not yet confirmed.

So Krang has already been dealt with by the time #101 picks up? Possibly by Saki?

No? I’m sure they didn’t bring Krang back from “death” just to get rid of him again after a single annual.

daggio 02-27-2020 10:16 PM

Personally, I think the cover just implies that we are gonna find out what became of Saki, Karai, and "LeatherKrang" after 100 in a "where are they now" sense. We know Karai is still leading the Foot, but we don't know for sure about Saki or "LeatherKrang".

Great cover!
