Soda was a ball and chain weighing me down for too damn long, and I'm glad to have cut it out of my life. Now will somebody help me off this high horse? I'm getting a wedgie.

As communities, as families and as friends, we should all be encouraging one another to lead happy healthy lives. But to be coerced into specific diets by the government? Sounds pretty dystopian to me.

I know Jeph and cubed would be pretty bummed if the government started cracking down on all that freaky porn they like so much.

Yeah, I agree that people should take responsibility for their own actions. The government shouldn't regulate our lives and try to protect us from ourselves

But anyways, this was an interesting read. Makes me miss psychology classes

That, and I'll say to Jephael's war on soda the same thing I say about the war on drugs: just because it's illegal doesn't mean people will stop doing it. You just create a black market then. Remember the Prohibition era? Didn't go over so well.

Exactly. I'd rather have money from taxes on vices go towards the education system and infrastructure like improving our roads and bridges than into the pockets of the cartels

I get where you're coming from, but I can't really see an organized bootleg soft drink racket.

I don't think you have much to worry about though. Coke aren't above wacking their political opponents.

ToTheNines 03-17-2017 05:49 AM

I was being a bit dramatic with the term lol. Really, it would be as simple as getting an older friend to go buy it, like we did with booze and smokes when we were kids. Accept 95 percent of parents would be sympathetic to the cause.

Like I said, don't even know why I'm arguing these points. The whole idea is silly.

Oh, I totally hear you on that and also feel the government shouldn't control us and what we do. That's for us to do as people because we have control over our lives and not the government. But I do know that certain states did lobby for a beverage tax at one time and New York and Illinois were two of them. Illinois also did a plastic bag tax which is so stupid.

Thanks for the condolences, Nines. It's not easy dealing with that, but we do the best we can. At least we have in home health care though they stopped physical and occupational therapy so now we have to pretty much do that ourselves.

I don't know anyone who dared ask people to run in and buy smokes for them... but we would always get good results asking people outside of, like, 7-Elevens to go in and buy cases of beer.

Funny you make that joke now since I'm not just cutting out soda, but also cookies (I was mostly hooked on Oreos before), and other assorted sweets.
That being said, I feel like the waffle cookie thing needs to be added to the bingo chart at this point cause honestly Andrew, your obsession with that brief time in my life comes off a little creepy to me anymore! I know you just like to tease, but it's like Jesus, enough already man!!!

Anyone else who wants to chime in on this matter is more than welcome. Am I being an overly sensitive p*ssy here or is Andrew in the wrong for continuing to make these jokes when I tell him to stop? I wanna like the guy, but it makes me so uncomfortable when he does that.

And before anyone tells us to take it to PM, we already did that a while back on Facebook.

Soda isn't go anywhere, much like cigarettes aren't going anywhere.
There's too much money to be made.

So the government will tax it more, talk about how horrible both are for your health, all the while accepting kickbacks from the respective agricultural lobbyists.

I wonder if weed will ever be acceptable on a certain level. I will admit, I've occasionally fancied the idea of trying it. I was friends with a young co-worker at Wal*Mart last year who told me how much he enjoyed that stuff.

Weed is terrible and a FAKE drug.

Agreed with the terrible part, but what makes you say it's a fake drug? :-?

ToTheNines 03-17-2017 03:23 PM

I've smoked fake weed. Didn't like it, very weird.

But have you tried real weed, and if so was it good?

ToTheNines 03-17-2017 05:00 PM

Normally is yeah. I enjoyed the **** outta the Cheeba Chews I had in Colorado. Best buzz ever.

Jephael 03-17-2017 05:10 PM
