DestronMirage22's "art"

Edit:

Yeah, all the so-called "art" in this thread was pretty bad. I didn't like looking at it. I'm just gonna keep trying to improve and if I ever get any better then I'll share my progress again. In the meantime I'll just leave this thread as is, without my previous posts.

To all my fellow members who commented in this thread and who offered me advice and support despite being a terrible artist: thank you.
You'll never know just how much I appreciate all you guys did for me.
Thank you.

That's actually a really cute style :D . I'd build on it some more.

You could really get it to look like if modern American cartoon style and vintage anime got married and had a baby. And I mean that in a good way.

(The years of difference in art style makes me think of a Professor Farnsworth quote. "Some say I'm robbing the cradle, but I say she's robbing the grave!")

Those are cool dude! I've heard people say hands are hard to draw. Yours look good. I really like the pose in the first one with the fist in the air. Any plans on adding text?

TurtleWA 05-26-2017 01:41 PM

Yeah speech bubbles. :)

myconius 06-11-2017 09:21 AM

one thing i find that's very helpful to look at is how animators use structure lines for their figures.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-slEZ1PoRdU...el_sheet_2.jpg

i see that you already add the center lines and eye line for the heads.
that's a very good practice, and i can definitely see progress in your head drawings.

consider possibly trying this for other body parts and limbs.
i find that always helps me whenever i'm drawing :)

there's probably more thorough examples, but this one shows the general idea.

hope this is helpful? :)

i would like to share my ideas of "good" or "not good' as it pertains to art.

for me, art in my experience is about self expression and personal growth.

it is an escapism for the artist. something that brings pleasure and joy.

as long as you are having fun while you are doing it, that's what truly matters.

progress will come in time with study and practice.
as long as you are enjoying what you are doing, that's the thing to focus on most.

at least that's the way i perceive art. :)
...and that's my two cents that nobody asked for

Thanks for the advice and your thoughts about it all myconius! I'll definitely try more in regards to using shapes and outlines for the base of my characters. And I always enjoy hearing people's thoughts about art. So thanks for all that! :D

you're very very welcome! you'd be amazed at how helpful even just practice drawing basic blocks, cylinders and sphere at various angles can be. :)

i do enjoy practicing geometric shaped features.

(not a stupendous example, but maybe helpful?) -> http://myconius.deviantart.com/art/B...2015-543032578

simplifying the shapes makes it a lot easier to mentally process them.

any time! i'm always up for a good art discussion. :D

I think you're doing pretty great :D . You should look at more tutorials for sure.

I like Sycra personally, but his art is a little less cartoony. Jazza, however, does to some really cartoony art and he should be a good artist to follow for development.

Splinter the boss 07-03-2017 08:37 AM

You're making progress. Keep it up, I like art.

Splinter the boss 07-25-2017 05:27 AM

Very good adding colors

Ok guys, it’s honesty time.
As of right now this is more or less the best thing I can draw:

What do you guys think? What are your honest opinions?
Is it bad? Pretty bad? Really bad??
Does it look like I’ll ever become a decent artist? Of should I just give up?
What do I need to improve on (besides everything)?

FredWolfLeonardo 10-29-2017 12:14 AM

From the looks of it, it seems like the area your favourite type of drawings are those of anime.

I'm not a certified artist myself but I think I can offer advice since I'm a huge fan of drawing anime/cartoons like you are.

Firstly, I'd recommend doodling alot, that might help. I personally use pens instead of pencils to achieve the cartoony/animated look, and my "practice" time is when I freely doodle in my scrap book. No focus on any technique, no worries, I just draw what I enjoy over and over again. I wish I could upload drawings of my doodles here, but I'm too embarrassed too since they're extremely random and a complete mess

The only thing I need is to have a clear image of what the character I draw looks like, and the best way for me to remember what a character looks like is by either watching them on screen alot or tracing their drawings and looking at those.

But thats just to achieve the level of drawings I do like in my art thread, compared to professionals here like Powder I am nothing :P

(btw where are your other drawings here? I could've sworn there were alot more in this thread before)

Utrommaniac 10-29-2017 12:29 AM

There's actually some pretty good tutorials on how to draw ruffles, as you seem to have wanted to do here.

I hope they help.

Thanks for the help guys!
I’ll make sure to keep it all in mind. :)

Oh yeah...about that: those drawings were really embarrassing for me to look at. So I just deleted ‘em. :embarass:

DestronMirage22 10-30-2017 10:35 PM

These are spoopy days ‘yall.

This little sketch looks a bit better in person, trust me. I’m just not very good at taking pictures. Or drawing witch hats. :P
In hindsight, I really should’ve looked up some sort of reference before trying to draw this. And that hat definitely needs some sort of brim. :/

DestronMirage22 11-06-2017 12:26 PM

Just finished this sketch.

I think it’s pretty funny.

Also, Leo’s little pose is a bit of a reference to Oregairu vol 4’s cover:

Nice work :)

I chuckled when I saw Mikey holding a technodrome.

I’m Not Popular, So I’ll Just Draw Tomoko Instead

I’ve been trying to get better at anatomy and angles and stuff, so I tried to apply that to an actual drawing. Here I attempted a top view.
Didn’t turn out all that good, but I think I’m getting better. A bit.
Camera work still sucks though. :P

Is her top part fading intentional or just a result of the camera?
