What's your favorite type of sandwich?
 
While walking to the store to do some grocery shopping earlier, I found myself craving one of my favorite kinds of sandwiches: a grilled cheese with sharp white cheddar and strawberry jelly :D

What's your go-to sandwich?

Most of the time, it's good ol' PB & J.

Although, I'm currently using up some of my left over-turkey for an old favorite, for a good turkey and cranberry sandwich is a hard thing to pass up.

Turkey and swiss, plain, on a chewy roll.

As far as grilled cheese goes... American or cheddar, maybe include a slice of pepper jack if we have any.

Plain Avocado sandwiches for me, either with just avocado and bread or a variety of salad dressings to add more flavour.

I don't know what it is about avocado that makes it so bland by itself for me but so beautifully perfect in conjuction with crunchy toasted bread.

A sausage, egg, and cheese one with strawberry jelly on bagel bread.
Absolutely scrumptious.
Plus, it works as a breakfast, lunch, and dinner meal.

Or BLT , can't go wrong with that simplicity. Or even more simple, grilled cheese. I've merged it with an "egg in a basket" in the past, and it's pretty glorious. But a little too filling if you ask me.

I'm not one who likes my sandwiches dry.

I dunno. There's one I make very often, though I don't think I'd necessarily say it's my all-time favorite. Sliced hard-boiled egg on toast with mayo, salt/pepper, a little shredded cheese, tomato, lettuce, open faced. Throw in some salt & vinegar chips & a pickle.

I quite like southwest styled chicken melts a lot, with peppers, onions, jack cheese, etc. Good old fashioned diner-style burgers & gyros are sandwiches in my book, so I'd put them on the chart too. Also can't beat a hearty helping of Thanksgiving leftovers slapped on a roll, cranberry sauce wedge & all.

Ham and cheese. Also grilled chicken sandwich with cheese is great as well.

But sandwiches are usually my last goto resort when it comes to eating. I only eat them when I'm short on cash or food options at the moment. Or when I'm in a rush and gotta east something fast.

I’m not much of a sandwich eater because I’m not much of a bread eater, but when I do eat them, I like hot ham and cheese melts, rye or pumpernickel. Also like rubens.

My favourite at the moment is a sausage and onion sandwich I get down at a local cafe, it's divine.

Second place goes to a good New York deli sandwich and I recently got a constant craving for peanut butter ones.

I honestly had no idea that sharp provolone was a thing. What's the flavor difference between it and the bland nothing-tasting version my mom likes and I grew up thinking was the only provolone?

Simple Deli Chicken or Deli Turkey with Garlic & Herb Cheese mayo on Rye. Sometimes with bacon if we have it if not just that.

Oh it's great!
My first job was in an Italian specialty store that had a deli of all sorts of meats and cheeses. The sharp provolone was my favorite. It's not as waxy or easy to slice as the regular deli style. Sharp is aged longer, and so it has a tendency to crumble when you try to slice it. It's also really pungently flavored, if memory serves.

It's been a while since I've had any.

I see a lot of love for sandwiches in here, good stuff. Nothing beats a sandwich as far as versatility and utility goes.

Hamburger is a sandwich right? so any Hamburger with cheese and bacon :lol: Or a Subway with teriyaki chicken and bacon with sweet onion sauce.

I usually don't make sandwiches, if I want some bread I don't use two slices of bread with condiments between them unless it's involving melted cheese. I guess I'm more familiar to "open sandwiches" which is funny that English have no proper single name for it, in Norway we call it smørbrød.

I don't make fancy open sandwiches at home, a slice of bread is usually topped with cheese, strawberry jam, sliced meat, liver pate, minced mackerel in tomato sauce or chocolate spread (but lets be real, the most unhealthy choice is what i usually go for). I rarely use butter nowadays, it's a habit from when I was dieting and I don't miss butter on cold bread. I rarely boil eggs to have on bread, I usually just fry them sunny-side up (fried eggs and peanut butter is good)

But when it comes to family gatherings where catering have been ordered, it's usually open sandwiches and then I often goers for the ones with Norwegian hamburger and onion, then scrambled eggs with salmon and I might try the one with shrimps on.

The old coffeeshop that had the city's best coffee but had to go due to our first Stabucks moving in, had some bagel sandwiches. the BLT and Taco ones where really good.
