I used the $1 month sub, played a bunch of games, then made new accounts every few months to keep using the $1 sub. Played on PC.

Probably played about 50+ games for free there (well technically for $1, but you get the point)

Definitely not the original voice actors. But hey, it's closer to Turtles in Time for that reason.

Also love your signature banner, Ninjinister.

Oof. I am not a fan of that “cutesy Scott Pilgrim anime face” they keep pushing on the character models. That’s been like the only nitpick for me so far.

Damn Tribute Games … lol

It's been a year since it was announced and we haven't gotten all that much new info, I really wouldn't have thought it would take this long. Game doesn't seem that bug to justify the developing time but perhaps after the massive response they decided not to rush it and tighten up the gameplay.

You know what the best use of the Final Fight "engine" was, IMO? The Simpsons arcade game. Now that was darn entertaining.

CyberCubed 03-11-2022 03:30 PM

I still own the Simpsons game on PS3. They never re-released it on PS4/Ps5 though so it's suck on my PS3 console till it dies.

LeotheLateBloomer 03-11-2022 03:54 PM

I was kinda hoping they could do a Simpsons collection but their games are all under different companies with most of the earlier ones from the defunct Acclaim and a lot of them aren't well-received. The Simpsons arcade should get rereleased on modern consoles at the very least.

Arcade1up released a cabinet so anything is possible!

sdp 03-11-2022 06:11 PM

EA has been hoarding the simpsons license for like two decades now and the lst time they tried was with The Simpsons game when the movie came out. They keep renewing the license because the micro transactions mobile game Tapped Out still makes them a lot of money but they don't care to use it in anything else sadly. A re-release of the arcade game isn't out of the question, but it'd be standalone, if they were to make a collection EA would just release their games which are pretty much most of the 3D era games IIRC. Almost all the 2D games were made by Acclaim so it can't be too hard to get the rights to them, I know they get shat on a lot but I liked them as a kid.

Call me old fashioned but I hope this game gets a physical release and not just digital download only...

AquaParade 03-18-2022 05:58 AM

I’d love a Simpsons collection even more than this collection, which says a lot.

I didn’t know they even released the arcade game on PS3. Can’t believe I never bought it. That was a super fun game. I love “Hit n Run” as well. While we are at it, how about some new games? I want to go to Springfield in VR or play a game the caliber of the recent South Park games. The license is ripe, especially because it’s been stale on television forever now. Let it find a new home in video games, for a while.

Leo656 03-18-2022 07:17 AM

If by "a lot" that either means you really really love The Simpsons or otherwise you really love terrible NES and Game Boy games more than good ones.

I mean, I wouldn't NOT buy a Simpsons collection, but more than this one? Naaaaaaah. I mean if we keep it just to comparable type stuff, as in "retro" stuff - no "Road Rage" or "Hit & Run" or anything, just the old NES games, Game Boy Games, and arcade stuff - then this one is still a gem and that one is a box of festive turds.

Won't lie, no shame, I played the hell out of the NES Simpsons games. But Jesus Christ, they're such garbage, objectively. I kind of hate myself for all the hours I spent playing them back then because even at the time I wasn't exactly having a lot of fun. I was at that weird age when you don't know some games are bad and you think it's your fault they're not fun or you're struggling or whatever. I must have rented Bart vs. The Space Mutants and vs. The World dozens of times, always figuring "Maybe THIS time the entire thing won't be physically painful and utterly joyless." And to think, if it didn't say "The Simpsons" on the box right at the peak of the show's early popularity, I might've rented countless other games that were actually good, instead. I feel cheated, kinda. Mostly by myself, for being such a mark.

I'd still buy a Simpsons retro comp, though, yeah. Mostly just to abuse the hell out of the Rewind feature so I can finally say I "beat" them, rationalize it with "Those f*cking games cheat anyway, so f*ck 'em" and convince myself that this now somehow justified all those wasted hours when I was 7, and then never play it again. But I would buy it, yes.

I still have the Arcade game on my 360. It holds up, I like it. I don't quite think it's still as strong as people swear it is but it was definitely a revelation upon its debut and it is always fun, especially with a friend, yeah. I just don't think it's AS great as people swear; it's short, it's cheap, it's deliberately designed to cheat you out of money, even more deliberately than a lot of other beat-'em-ups, and it mostly gets by on the admittedly-incredible visual presentation and how creative they were in including all of the characters that had ever been seen on the show up to that point. It's very well-made; but not to be "an Andrew", you still just walk left-to-right and mash one button.

It's very good, don't get me wrong. I just think it's become a hair overrated. Not by a lot, just by a little. And I think some of that is a combination of childhood fondness mixed with its relative-obscurity, increasingly diminished ability to play properly outside of emulation as arcade cabinets degrade and go extinct, and the fact that it's become somewhat mythical over the years via a combination of those other things.

If they did do a retro Simpson comp, I think it would do well but it would definitely be a game everyone bought JUST to have a copy of the Arcade game. It'd be like "Here ya go! In this box is One fresh-baked jelly donut and a bunch of petrified cat sh*t. Have fun!"

AquaParade 03-18-2022 08:35 AM

I just want a Simpsons Collection for the arcade game and "Hit n Run". Just having those two would be a victory for me. I'd be glad to play some of the old SNES games maybe one more time, for memories sake, but I can take or leave them.

I am far more entertained by those two Simpsons games than probably any tmnt game.

Gosh, I want the X-Men arcade game to be brought back to consoles as well.

There's an interesting idea.

As much as I love the arcade game, I don't think a modern videogame that revolves around The Simpsons beating people up makes as much sense now, so you do have to get creative when it comes to how to adapt the license. At least if you want to use the license to the full potential.

"Hit n Run" appealed to me with it's combination of open-world, driving, and just small doses of platforming/adventure elements, so as to not break the world or characters too much. I want it to feel like an actual day in the life of Springfield, which is hard to do when you're beating up your hundredth goon or going from wrestling match to wrestling match, etc.

The exploration element gives a lot of potential to just exploit the license by letting you visit landmarks from the show and providing plenty of material for commentary from the player-characters or npcs.
I like what South Park did recently, but I'm not sure I want that much combat in a Simpsons game. Other then that, I think it's a great template for a Simpsons game.

sdp 03-18-2022 12:32 PM

I'm hoping shredders revenge has this big reveal they keep waiting to get us excited again. I mean I'll still love the game even with just what we've seen but I'd like to be mind blown.

I can see arcade getting a released again since it's beloved and we did get that one up cabinet a bit ago. Same with hit and run since it's gotten rumors of a remaster and people Always ask for it.

The other 3D games see. Like it would be too much of an effort for anyone to care to rerelease them. The 2D games were basically all Acclaim, it'd be easier to get those in a collection but I don't think there's any demand for them, but I'd love it.

Sadly that's what EA thinks they have with Simpsons Tapped Out. And at least a while ago the reason they kept the license was because of that game giving them so much revenue.

I brought up the idea of a Simpsons collection in the Cowabunga Collection thread but I mentioned that a lot of the earlier games even during their time weren't very well-received. Plus since each game were by different publishers, mostly Acclaim, I imagine it'd be a nightmare (or Bart's Nightmare) to get them all in one package.

MattOnWheels 03-23-2022 06:41 PM

I'm here to tell you, this will by MY game of the year as long as it has replay-ability and plenty of content! Don't give a damn about how relevant TMNT is via one iteration. All Sewers lead to the Turtle Lair! I'm glad to see the FW incarnation endure the same as I'll be glad when Rise's movie comes out. As for this? It's looking to be an absolute love letter to that era and I can't wait! 'Gonna get it on steam, so maybe we all can co-op! :)

oldmanwinters 03-27-2022 06:42 PM

Somebody on the game's official Discord pointed out this PS blog from February 10 about Splinter's design and playstyle, on account of the fact it seemed a lot of people missed it (including me):
https://blog.playstation.com/2022/02...dders-revenge/

Has a cool breakdown of some of his sprites.

AquaParade 03-27-2022 06:53 PM

I'm really looking forward to this. It seems like the beat-em-up genre has gone through some iterations that I'm not up to speed on. Special moves like that were nowhere to be seen in Turtles in Time.

This has potential to be the best TMNT game, by the looks of it.

CyberCubed 03-27-2022 07:00 PM

It's literally so weird this game got overshadowed by the announcement of the collection. I really hope it doesn't impact sales any, if this game doesn't sell well kiss any future of TMNT games in this manner down the drain.

We're finally getting TMNT 6 after 25+ years.

There could be arguments both ways. How it could help, or how it could hurt. If casual fans of the old Konami games play the collection and come out of it going, "Oh. Well those didn't age well, did they? I don't know why I remember them being so much cooler" then that's definitely going to hurt Shredder's Revenge. Conversely, other fans could be pumped up by them. Personally I think more of the former may happen, if a lot of fans buy the collection at all.

The newest issue of Game Informer releasing (digitally) tonight has a "special look" at Shredder's Revenge listed among its contents.

Dunno if it's gonna be anything especially noteworthy in terms of new info, but seems at least worth keeping an eye on.

On the TributeGames discord, I read that Tempestra is confirmed as a boss in the article. New images of some characters and stages (Mall Meltdown) revealed in screencaps.
EDIT: Apparently, Tempestra summons digital projections of Tokka and Rahzar, which must be dispatched before you can truly damage her. Metalhead is confirmed as a boss in the electronic store stage "A Few Screws Loose."

I'm actually really looking forward to this game. When it was first announced I just thought "neat, a retro style tmnt game", but seeing how much care went into this, seeing how much beat-em-ups have evolved, has me dying to play it day one.

Chaotix12345 04-13-2022 01:44 PM

Summary I made of the Game Informer info:

Quote:

General info:

* The article only mentions there being six playable characters, so that might be it.
* Each character has their own distinct moveset, attacks, special attacks, and gameplay feel.
* Fill up the special meter by scoring consecutive hits with normal moves to ready the special attacks.
* Each character has three different specials: a ground special, an air special, and a flying kick special.
* Co-Op is drop-in/drop-out and the game compensates for a suddenly differing number of players on the fly.
* Two gameplay modes: Arcade & Story.
* Arcade Mode is meant to replicate the experience of the classic games with limited lives and the requirement to beat the whole shebang in a single sitting.
* Story Mode adds an upgrade system wherein you can trade points for perks such as an HP boost, extra lives, new moves, and the Radical Mode ability which can temporarily power your character up.
* Story Mode also includes optional challenges within stages, adding replayability.
* Chaining together attacks is more fluid than in the classic games and players have a short window to revive their downed friends in Co-Op. (Guessing that's what the Pizza thing at the end of April's reveal trailer was about.)
* Story is told through the environment, enemies, boss fights, and short cutscenes between stages.

Individual levels:

Stage 1: Jaw-Breaking News

* Takes place inside the Channel 6 Building as Shredder begins his plot by trying to rebuild Krang's robot body. (Which explains the severed Krang robot head we've seen in previous trailers.) The head also appears in this level. Bebop is the Boss.

Stage 6: Mall Meltdown

* Takes place at the Mall (duh) where you go through the food court and shopping promenades before eventually reaching the Arcade where you take on the level's Boss, Tempestra. She creates digital illusions of Tokka and Rahzar to attack you, but once you take them out, she's left vulnerable to direct attacks herself.

Stage 10: A Few Screws Loose

* Goes from a back alley to the inside of an electronics store filled with tube TVs and Mousers. Also has a section featuring several enemies on opposite conveyor belts. The Boss is Metalhead, who uses some of the same tricks from Turtles in Time (stretchy arms and flying kicks, for instance) but he can now shoot rockets at you while shielding himself. He's backed up by a swarm of Mousers.

So that's ten levels confirmed thus far with obviously more to come, which is definitely impressive for an arcade-style TMNT beat-em-up.

Hopefully those are LONG 10 levels, since latest Streets of Rage game also has about 10 levels or so, but most of them are pathetically short.

I think there will be more than 10 levels, I don't see the game ending on a Metalhead fight.
