San Francisco (June 25th, 2020) - Kongregate, a leading developer & publisher of mobile free-to-play games, today revealed TMNT: Mutant Madness, a mobile free-to-play game based on the classic Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Developed by Kongregate's Chicago-based studio, Synapse, TMNT: Mutant Madness lets players explore the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles like never before. Players will be able to build their own squad of heroes, including classic villains, and fight a new menace on the streets and sewers of New York City. TMNT: Mutant Madness will launch worldwide on iOS and Android this September.

“We’re excited to reveal TMNT: Mutant Madness especially to longtime fans,” said Tony Perkins, TMNT: Mutant Madness Game Lead at Kongregate. “Our team has been hard at work bringing these classic characters to life, knowing our players will appreciate the level of detail and heart we’re bringing to the game. From the Turtles’ sewer lair, to fighting the Foot Clan in the streets of NYC, to Krang in his Technodrome… This game was made by fans for fans.”

Looks like Nick is all-in licensing the Classic Toon style these days.

I'm all cool with that. I still play Ludia's TMNT Legends (via my Kindle, as I don't do mobile), so I'd like to give this a try.

Seems to me that Nick should make Fred Wolf Films a crazy high offer to acquire the original show, so they can fill-in the biggest missing piece of their portfolio.

TMNT Legends was neat but I started playing it late so I was pretty behind on being able to collect and build a lot of characters (most of these kinds of games are like that -- players who get in later can never catch up to early adopters)

I will definitely try it. It's pretty and these kinds of games can be fun on the go or when laying in bed being bored

I'm liking the character styles, and even the surprising inclusion of...

Super Irma!

I'm calling it now, somebody over there has been playing MersoX Rescue-Palooza and decided to follow that "tons of character" hype train!

Wow! Even Mona Lisa. I like this design. She's cute.

I noticed in the shot of the Headquarters (aka Lair) that there are a few cameos like Dooney's cover to TMNT #4 and original Topps TMNT trading cards being used a posters:

Really neat mix of FW/toy designs with a chibi-esque flair. I'm sold just by the fact that I can form a team of Slash, Leatherhead, Tokka, and Rahzar.

Seems like a given that this game will incorporate alternate versions of characters, as evidenced by Krang in both his Android and Bubble Walker and the dark-version of Shredder seen on the main logo page. So we could really see a whole slew of action figure variants of the Turtles later on.

The 80?s characters look surprisingly good in 3D. The game looks very entertaining too

Too bad it's a mobile game which means its ****, you'll begin playing it, get a bunch of goodies without spending a dime, then realize that you're wasting too much time to be able to get as much "free" stuff as you can or waste a dollar or two, after a while you become addicted to it and continue doing mindless chores, eventually you realize you're not even having fun at all and stop playing. Realize you now have more time to do other stuff and can't believe you spent so much time playing a "game" that wasn't a game and wasn't fun and regret doing it.

Find a new mobile game that has cool characters and hey, I'm just going to play a bit and the cycle continues.

Proud to say I never spent a cent on Legends over 1.5 years!

I have never either in all the mobile games, but always hate myself for playing them for as long as I did. They're not designed to be fun, they're designed to be addicting, but there's little fun value outside of getting "cool" .jpgs or 3D models which takes mindless hours of game chores. Mobile gaming really is the worst

Zulithe 06-25-2020 03:54 AM

I'd rather get a TMNT rpg on Switch or something, but with the gaming landscape reality being what it is, I'll still take what we get. It's possible to have fun without spending, but it does test your willpower.

They made the right choice to focus on the fred wolf toon characters... but we know how these games work, so it's very very possible we will get versions of characters from other iterations of the franchise if the game can find and audience and last long enough.

oldmanwinters 06-25-2020 09:23 AM

I'm also one of those guys who would rather pay about $30 for a game so that I won't have to be bombarded with daily ads and paywalls to digitally buy some useless perks just to allow me to keep playing.

One thing worth mentioning is that this game seems to be using the classic TMNT logo rather than the retro-style logo which Nickelodeon had been mandating on a lot of the classic tie-ins.

TMNT Gacha?
Color me interested.
Maybe.

Good job, Ninjinister, for adding an entry to Turtlepedia:
https://turtlepedia.fandom.com/wiki/...Mutant_Madness

Fun fact: This is the 2nd official "Mutant Madness" entry into TMNT canon, as it was previously the name of the 2nd Random House coloring book that adapted the pilot season TV episodes.

Andrew NDB 06-26-2020 06:49 PM

This looks like something from my worst nightmares. On a couple of different fronts.

Sumac 06-27-2020 04:03 AM

I've watched footage of TMNT Legends - didn't like its art style.
But for this one maybe I give it a chance. Not a fan of "chibi" style, but FW designs doesn't look horrible.

sdp 06-27-2020 09:10 AM

TMNT Legends was also like TMNT gatcha right?
What about the other tmnt apps on the app store, are they any good?

TigerClaw 06-27-2020 09:42 AM

TMNT Legend had a bunch of characters from the 2012 series. and some where never added like Mona Lisa. At least this new game will had a proper Mona Lisa in it since its all based on the FW series.
