And WB releases a statement...

https://talkiesnetwork.com/2019/09/2...e-controversy/

Quote:

“Gun violence in our society is a critical issue, and we extend our deepest sympathy to all victims and families impacted by these tragedies,” reads the statement. Our company has a long history of donating to victims of violence, including Aurora, and in recent weeks, our parent company joined other business leaders to call on policymakers to enact bi-partisan legislation to address this epidemic. At the same time, Warner Bros. believes that one of the functions of storytelling is to provoke difficult conversations around complex issues. Make no mistake: neither the fictional character Joker, nor the film, is an endorsement of real-world violence of any kind. It is not the intention of the film, the filmmakers or the studio to hold this character up as a hero.”
This sure is shaping up to be interesting, even if I am mildly annoyed at the fact that we can't all be hyped up for the Joker movie.

I know I wouldn't be watching a Joker movie in that theater, opening weekend.

Hey, if anyone has Regal Member Reward Points sitting around that they’d like to make use of, you could have this art print shipped to me and I’ll Paypal you $15. I really want it but I’m not a member. Worth a shot.

I mean, it kinda makes sense. Especially with this current mentality where everyone is expected some sort of 'gamers will rise' type reaction.

You know the stupid thing is if people really are worried about some sort of uprising, maybe just.... Don't show the movie? Trash it and make a less contraversial one?

This would be the exact opposite of what I prefer.

Can you imagine if we began a precedent of trashing, and essentially censoring, any film that got people riled up. Who would make that call? The government? No thank you. The fans? It would be beyond politics and turn into fanboy wars. In a small way, it already has.

The thing about this movie is that I truly feel people are willing danger into existence. At this point, with the accusations and proclamations flying around, if anything, we are going to convince incels that “Yup, this is the big one. Get your guns and gas masks loaded! Here it comes!!” More than any film ever could. it's starting to feel like a goddamn invitation.

It’s a movie featuring a bad person. We had nothing to be afraid of.

Extreme arrogance and narcissism of certain group led to their extreme paranoia.

Papenbrook 09-28-2019 12:57 PM

Welp, it looks like Warner Bros. are banning the press from the premiere screening of Joker.

Umm ...

Given fear-mongering that certain-aligned sources do, for the sake of "good boy points", it is understandable.

Good for them. Let the world watch before the discussion continues.

drgon78 09-29-2019 04:29 AM

The press is a bunch of trolling shill vultures anyway.

The question everyone is going to want to know at the end of that movie is: are we going to see your Joker come back?

I’m the wrong guy to ask (laughs). What do you think? Would you like that?
I have to say, I'm surprised I haven't seen this quote going around the web, considering how much a sequel is being discussed by fans.

Andrew NDB 09-30-2019 01:01 PM

I'm surprised Phoenix would even be open for that.

Right. Anyone who follows his work can see that he doesn't like to commit, generally speaking.

At the same time, he really sounds like he had a great time making this film, in all the press he is doing.

Autbot_Benz 09-30-2019 01:45 PM

Planning to see it Thursday. Quite curious.

AquaParade 10-01-2019 07:18 PM

Same here. I have super high hopes, but I've been let down before. I'll be back with my general thoughts Thursday or Friday.

CyberCubed 10-01-2019 08:03 PM

Be safe, everyone. Don't get killed on the way to the theater. ;)
