X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Yeah, "The New Mutants" will be called "The New Mutants"... if and when it happens. Most of these planned X-Men movies by Fox tend to just never materialize.

God, these movies are awful. Reboot! |
Well... theory time!
"Supernova" is a code name, and the real name will be "X-Men: Phoenix." Prophecy time! It'll suck. |
I wouldn't doubt it. Singer is far from above recycling his own garbage again. Plus he seems obsessed with "correcting" Ratner's X3. And I dunno, people made such a fuss about, "If Singer had done X3 instead of Superman Returns, it would have been INFINITELY better than Ratner's movie!"... but how do we know that? If anything, I'd imagine it'd be slower and significantly smaller.
I wonder if Magneto will become the villain again? |
FOX may be trying to ape Suicide Squad, the original "Supernova" story arc in the X-Men: Legacy title dealt with Rogue and Cable leading a team of X-Villains.

In every Bryan Singer X movie, he's been the villain. All five of them. |
I saw Apocalypse a couple weeks ago, and I can say with no exaggeration that it was one of the WORST films I have ever seen in my life. There were no, literally no, redeeming factors at all. It was so bad at times, if I didn't know better, I would have said the film was a satire of the superhero genre.
So I hope to God this "Supernova" project never happens. |

Its also gonna be set during the 90s.

That's another thing that I just don't get about having one movie for each decade. What horrible physical mutilation do James McAvoy's Xavier and Michael Fassbender's Magneto endure to age into Patrick Stewart and and Ian McKellen so quickly between the '90s and 2000?

Fox's continuity and general timeline logic is completely non-existent. I'm not talking about in terms of old and new X-Men, I'm talking about basic film-to-film logic.
Take the ending of Apocalypse. The very ending, where the Sentinels were used for the Danger Room. Now HOLD THE F*CK ON. The entire point of DoFP was to make sure that the Sentinels were never made. So not only does Professor X resurrect the Sentinels, knowing full well their dark possible future, but he programs them to attack mutants. :| It makes no sense whatsoever, in any possible way, if you've seen DoFP. But it looks cool so that's why it's in the movie. But that's the Fox formula for X-Men: if it's cool, put it in, even if it's completely ass-backwards. |
The X-men franchise needs a serious facelift. The smartest thing they can do is let Deadpool be the beginning of a new series. It was successful and proved there is a strong enough audience for R-rated superhero flicks. That could be the thing X-men needs to separate itself from the competition.
|
A large chunk of the audience of superhero films has always been kids. Which is why they try to avoid R ratings.
