Since I've had a Switch, I have bough a couple games digitally (on BIG sale) that I already owned physically, but I have yet to buy any physical copies of games I already owned digitally. And I only mean the same "versions" like a specific console; "Retro Collecting" is a different category in my mind. However, one advantage of double-dipping is that you can always delete the digital version from you system for spatial management and still pop in the physical copy for no-waiting gameplay. I'm guessing games with DLC bundles should allow you to keep the DLC portions while saving some space without having the original game, but I haven't tried that with some of mine yet.

With the Switch I know you have to be really mindful of in GB for storage when it comes to physical vs. digital, even for a game like this.

Fortunately, one of the TributeGames dev members confirmed Shredder's Revenge to be around 1GB in size, strategically optimized from around 4-5 GB:

Very convenient for Switch owners without any microSD card expansions.

Chaotix12345 05-25-2022 10:20 AM

Dotemu confirmed in their original tweet about physical versions that they'd be coming "post launch." However, LRG also confirmed that their version would ship at the same time as the international physical versions, so I'm guessing that means not quite as long a wait as usual.

Interesting ... I wonder if the "radical physical edition" is in reference to the collector's editions but the standard ones will release when it comes out digitally.

Based on the eShop, looks like the game "may" be priced at $28.99

Weird, I'm seeing it listed as $24.99.

Very much looking forward to the inevitable digital sale price a year down the road, since I intend to buy physical early.

CyberCubed 05-27-2022 11:03 AM

So let me get this straight the classic collection is $40 but the new game is only $30? I know it's 13 games versus 1 but usually new games would be more than a collection.

Licensing costs plus Konami being more greedy than DotEmu?

Six players, eh? Interesting, indeed. Sounds like a crap-fest, but hard to say without trying the game. I know they are focused even more on the "crowd control" aspect though, so maybe it could work. If nothing else, it's probably the best mode for a drunken laugh with friends.

We have a price but still no release date.

Looks like the Switch page got updated to note only 4-players as expected.

Interestingly, it also removed the promise of online multiplayer.

What? I wouldn't even buy it, then. When am I ever going to have a bunch of people physically over who want to sit down and play a 16 bit TMNT side-scrolling beat'em up? Maybe in 1995 I could find people.

I expect online play will be a feature eventually (heck, even Nick All-Star Brawl has it on Switch), but I was just pointing out that it was listed as a feature yesterday and it's not listed today. They had to correct the typo about 6-player play, but they also removed that other bit for whatever reason.

RaphaelinSTL 06-03-2022 09:48 PM

It will have online lol

RaphaelinSTL 06-06-2022 02:45 PM

Yikes. That was bad.

No real news outside of little information about the collector's edition that I couldn't tell if it was a joke or not given that it's Limited Run Games and they like to be silly / troll.

Free pan pizza? Shredder action figure?

Also, they purposely bleeped out the release date and even now I'm at the point where this is becoming obnoxious. Dotemu must be saving the release date for something they know more eyes are going to be on with Thursday ... no wonder Limited Run Games deleted that tweet about a release date last week.

That said, Limited Run Games did add a placeholder for the game on each system .... so yay?

(Very little) info roundup:

Standard Edition comes with a coupon for a free Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza in addition to the previously-revealed goodies, ala TMNT 2 on NES.

Classic Edition is VHS-style and includes a Steelbook case.

Ultimate Collector's Edition includes a strategy guide, a miniature arcade replica, and...

https://i.imgur.com/fIQD5UW.jpeg

ANOTHER freaking OG Shredder figure repaint from Playmates.

Yeah, thinking I'm gonna go Standard unless I'm super tempted by the guide. Nothing else really grabs me about these other editions.

oldmanwinters 06-06-2022 03:13 PM

As a fan eager for any nugget of news on Shredder's Revenge, I have been let down more than Charlie Brown trying to kick the football from Lucy.

I couldn't imagine needing a guide for a game like this.

I'd mostly be in it for any cool art or retro vibes.

LeotheLateBloomer 06-06-2022 10:55 PM

I guess that leaves between July and December. Kinda strange that it's taking this long to announce a release date for this.

Yeah, I feel like it's going to borrow a lot of inspiration from those old fun guides that gave bios and unique artwork for each character / boss in the game. Something similar to this?

CyberCubed 06-07-2022 10:06 PM

Is there seriously still no release date? WTF? The game has to be done by now as Limited Run is doing print copies.

This is getting laughable.

Zulithe 06-08-2022 03:57 AM

I'll just be getting the game digitally. I'm not interested in supporting another lazy Playmates repaint figure anyways.

AquaParade 06-08-2022 01:38 PM

I think it's awesome that they actually included a figure in the collector's edition. It seems like such an obvious move. And a game-specific version, from the original line - How cool!

Unfortunately, the company is Playmates, so the figure is lazy and awful looking.

Too bad they couldn't get Neca on board, especially because they've already dipped their toe into the TMNT video-game world. They'd sell like hot-cakes to the toy collectors.

As much as I would like a big strategy guide, music CD, and… maybe the arcade standee… I would have a hard time justifying to pay almost x6 more for all that. If only they could have put the book and soundtrack in a $100 package instead of stuffing all the bulk into a premium package. I am curious if shipping costs will be a flat rate for all versions.

So is there any truth to folks saying this company takes forever to put their stuff out? I wanted a physical copy, but if I have to wait 2-4 months for it to arrive, screw that, I'll just get it off the e-shop.

I ordered a copy of the original Shantae for the Switch and it took around 6-7 months for it to be delivered to my house. It's great to have but the wait was painful.

RaphaelinSTL 06-09-2022 07:31 AM

Ugh, lol.

Truthfully, I'd much rather pick up the physical version of the game even if it were just the standard release ... but with how badly I've been anticipating the game, I wouldn't be able to hold out for 2/3 (or even longer) months just for the ability to grab it at retail when it's available for me to play digitally.

Was really hoping that they'd at least have the standard edition ready to go when the game was ready to drop and anyone that would want some fancy/smancy cooler edition would be justified in waiting for some extra cool stuff. You'd think with the delays, they'd have something in place more for such a big IP to have that retail release in tandem with digital, but alas.

Honestly if they don't announce the release date today, there's obviously bigger problems.

I have purchased two physical releases from LimitedRun's website last year: Mega Man The Wily Wars (Sega Genesis) and Double Dragon/Kunio-Kun Retro Brawler Bundle (Switch). The Mega Man pre-order window closed in late June and finally shipped in early February (because "pandemic reasons", I think). The Brawler Bundle pre-order window closed in mid September and shipped in late March. Good experiences, overall, but if your concern is wait time, then ordering through the LimitedRun website probably isn't your best bet.

The disclaimers on the website even note the following for particular TMNT bundles:

Switch Standard Edition:
Quote:

There is no purchase limit on this item. This item is currently in manufacturing and artwork is subject to change. Products are typically not expected to ship until 4-5 months after the preorder window closes. Future production updates will be visible on the product page and your account page. Switch Classic version:

Products are typically not expected to ship until 8-9 months after the preorder window closes. Future production updates will be visible on the product page and your account page. Switch Radical Edition:

But, as I understand, the standard Switch physical edition is supposed to be available in retail stores (there is a precedent for some LimitedRun distributed games).

That would be a disappointment, indeed. Most people just want to own and play the thing, and that should have been the number 1 priority in marketing a physical release to be available when the digital version launches.
