Everyone's a critic
Howdy all.
I've read every page of every discussion of every episode and that has prompted the following comments:
As many have previously pointed out, these new adventures of the TMNT take their cue from the original comic book series, not the original animated show that everyone here is so fond of. That having been said, Oroku Saki, The Shredder, played a MINOR role in the original comic incarnation. In creating this new series, Peter Laird and the rest of the creative team have taken that model to heart. One of their goals was to make sure that The Shredder was not in every episode. He could be the Turtles' greateat foe, but he should not be their only foe! Dr. Doom, Lex Luthor, or The Joker would not be as menacingly cool if they were the only challenges the Fantastic Four, Superman or Batman faced (and those heroes would not be heroic if they continually truimphed over the same villain again and again).
This series is a series about the Turtles; four teenaged brothers and their immediate family and friends. Any story that shows insight into their relationships, or tests them in new ways, or sets them off on a new and different kind of adventure is a valid story to be told.
To make an animated TV episode takes an incredible amount of work, more I'm sure than most of you realize. And it takes just as much hard work to make an episode like "Nano" and "Fallen Angel" and "GarbageMan" as it does any of the other episodes. To dismiss them as "filler" seems incredibly narrow-minded.
Next, I find the comments about the show being "unrealistic" quite frankly... unrealistic! This is a show about talking animals and aliens and mutatiing ooze and ninjas in the big city. Within the framework of this world, the Turtles are a weirdness magnet. The idea that they can get caught up and drawn into one incredible and yes even unbelievable adventure after another seems to be a huge part of their charm. You never know where the Turtles are going to take you. If it's realism you're looking for, the show has that too; just look at the very real way the Turtles relate to each other, bicker with each other, care for each other.
Lastly, I find it very strange that a couple of months ago everyone in here was so very happy that the Turtles were coming back, and the overwhelming majority was more than pleased with the new episodes, yet now, a mere eight weeks later, people are claiming that upcoming episodes are going to "really suck."
Tough crowd.
