The way it began was pretty good, maybe a little too quick with turning back time 6 months before Earth was destroyed. Moments, I kept wondering, "Why don't they just go back now and prevent it ahead of time?" But hey. Kids shows. 
When they put on their space suits, it was great seeing all their reactions. First off, I'm happy Leo's geeking out again. Second, this was the best episode for April O'Neil. I really liked her character this time around. 
Plus, there was some standout moments: Fugitoid, floating in space, casey's "Vanilla Ice" quote, Leo flirting with an alien, and the introduction of Lord Dregg.
So, why is it that I don't love this episode? Well, let's see. It's one thing to be fish out of water, but the turtles seemed to have left their brains by the ship's door. Donnie touching an object that duplicated him. Funny, but . . . You shouldn't be grabbing something that is not familiar to you. Also, what part of "Don't touch anything" did Casey and Raph did not understand? I was with this episode from the time it started until the turtles started acting like morons. 
Although, Mikey didn't mean to cause trouble. All he wanted was food. And Leo. He was just being friendly and wanted to talk to someone. I guess those two are kind of vindicated. 
Lord Dregg needs a better motive for killing the turtles. The spice thing seems like a good reason, because maybe the spice was some kind of drug on that planet. Also, he's a smuggler. However, there needs to be some kind of deeper reason behind killing the turtles. What if he was in league with the Triceratons? That would be some twist. I don't know. There needs to be something better. And what about Fugitoid. Why didn't he come with them? Maybe he could've prevented some of the crap the turtles and friends started.
Anyways, for a premiere, not the best, but not the worst. I've noticed with this show that their first episodes aren't that good. "Rise of the Turtles" was the best (mostly because it was the start of a great show), but this, "The Mutation Situation," and "Within the Woods" were weak in certain areas. The Season 2 premiere had April getting mad at the turtles and ending their friendship. I knew it couldn't last long, but I didn't like that. For Season 3, Leo trying to overcome his injury was the best part, but the mutant Creep did nothing for me.
It seems like after every explosive and well-done finale, there has to be a half-assed premiere.  |
Gonna have to disagree with you on the Turtles leaving their brains behind, unfortunately. Let's just be realistic here, pal, if you were in space...SPACE for the first time at a SPACE PORT seeing aliens and gadgets and armory and whatnot would you not be a little more than giddy about that?
I mean, of you can honestly say that you wouldn't be grabbing cool space stuff and trying out new things then, gee, I don't know what kind of person you are- but, I for one, would be contained, for sure.
So, I think, we just gotta stop being a tad too critical about the sillier aspects of this show and place yourself in not only the characters but also the writers' positions. We don't know everything, though we love to think we do. And we don't have to even lift a finger to get these episodes, yet they word their butts off day and night to satisfy all of us vast majority of fans with
tons of opinions, requests and complaints. Is Don stealing a holographic doo-hickey or Casey and Raph being dorks
really something to complain about? Especially when
you'd probably be just as blissfully careless?

And, no bro, it wasn't half-assed. It just wasn't in your favor. If you saw a painting and didn't like it does that necessarily mean the painter didn't try their best? No. So, it's fine to say you didn't like it or it wasn't your most favorite and explain why...but saying its half-assed? Who are you to say, really. Not being rude, I respect your thoughts, but that's border line disrespectful when you've seen from interviews and behind the scenes just how much passion and effort they put into this show, man.
