It was my idea to put Ocho in, she's my new baby.
I did my usual thing of barging in and making demands on what to put in the story, haha. I'd been wanting there to be a land/earth character for a while to along with Koya/wind and Bludgeon/water. A couple years ago I did a bunch of mole character sketches for a pitch I never finished, and when the Karai story came along I got the chance to use the character. And I've wanted to name a character Ocho for a long time so I finally got to do it!
The only thing was that Karai didn't have any way of creating mutants, we had to do something else so Erik and I came up with a different origin. I can't spoil anything but Ocho isn't a mutant.
