Quite right. You want to make a black Little Mermaid movie? I'm sure with the right writers you can just do that. Surely there's room for two mermaids? Same thing with stuff like Batgirl, April, and so on. Because anyone with two brain cells to rub together is going to realize this is SUPER insulting. Not only to the actual character, but to the race(s) they're trying to appease or just generally virtue signal for. "We don't trust that this race-specific thing will succeed if we do an original project, so it can ONLY succeed if we hijack and replace an old white thing." Like, yikes!
