The ability to write creatively and eloquently does take a measure of intellegence. It's creativity vs. books smarts. You don't see Red Neck Joe banging out an award winning novel, after all.

Now I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but some people will never be able to write well. However, anyone can learn advanced mathematics if they want to.
