Like the
Flat Earth thread I made last week, I wanted to make a thread about the
Hollow Earth theory in case anyone wants to discuss it.
There's a substantial body of evidence that indicates the Earth is not, in fact, hollow, but it's interesting to examine why the thought has persisted for so long. Of course there are many large, open cavernous spaces under the surface of the Earth and countless tunnels linking many of them together but there is definitely more matter than empty space within the Earth.
There are a lot of interesting takes on the theory, featuring giants, lost civilizations, flying saucers, a miniature sun suspended at the center of the hollow space, and of course, Nazis.
Here are some articles about the history of the pseudoscientific theory and a link to a website purporting to have all the evidence proving the hollowness of the Earth:
Atlas Obscura - The Hollow Earth Is Filled With Giants, Germans, and A Little Sun
The Telegraph - Hollow Earth Conspiracy Theories: The Hole Truth
World Top Secret: Our Earth IS Hollow!
(this site is like a rabbit hole filled with ties to all sorts of other conspiracy theories, as well as some schools of religious thought)
I just think it's interesting to examine far-out theories like this, not because they're particularly likely but because some people become so convinced of them that they cite all sorts of dubious evidence in support of them. And then at the same time it's like—
what if it's true?
What do y'all think?
