It's quite possible Lita's future timeline isn't going to be the one the present Turtles head to. That would mean any future writers are locked into what is set-up here, but I don't think they have to do that. The future also looks like some kind of paradise for mutants to live freely, and I don't think we'll be seeing that anytime soon.
