They don't have a story to tell. They tried "to fit him in as well." They shoved Casey into their script because fans like the character.
That's it.
And from what we've SEEN SO FAR, they didn't even bother to try all that hard with Casey.
It was announced in December 2014 that the movie starts filming in April 2015
