Old toon Saki or new toon Saki?

Which one do you like best and why?
I like them both, but I think it`s the old toon Saki I like best. Maybe it`s because I like the whole old TMNT show and all. And maybe it`s because I find the old Saki so damn sexy! I think he`s one of the hottest cartoon villains ever! I like his sense of humor in the old show. It sometimes seems like he`s not truly all that evil. He`d seemed more like a spoilt, misunderstood (bad) boy. But I still like him.
As for new Saki, I find him sexy as well, and he`s much more evil. I dare to say he`s much more convincing as an evil mastermind and Turtles` arch-enemy. But he`s an UTROM and I can`t have an Utrom...

For me, each Shredder/Saki has a major flaw that bugs me to death. Old toon Shredder is funny, but often crossed the "Oh. you've gotta be KIDDING me" line with stupidity. I know the show was supposed to be funny and I can work with that... but I like villains I can take seriously. Though I rediscovered Cowabunga Shredhead last night (the only episode I have clear childhood memories of) and he was being pretty flippin' hilarious as "Michaelangelo."

Which is why I think I prefer the new toon Shredder, but only by a little bit. If only he were human... I originally hated the Utrom Shredder idea, but they worked that concept into the NT storyline so well I can accept it as part of that continuity. But then again, if I'd been making the show I'd probably want more Earth battles and less sci-fi in addition to a human Shredder. It makes the concept feel a little more realistic (as it were) and a little less "woo scifi!"

The real true Shredder in the new series*Not the Uthrom one* is just plain bad ass. So he wins but if I were choosing between the Uthrom Shredder and Old Toon Shredder...well Old Toon wins. I grew up with his cruelity and comdey.

well I think this is a bit early to do something like this since we really haven't gotten to see the real Saki from the new toon we've seen a fake one played by cher'ell (sp).
Either way though I think I'm still gonna have to go with old 80's toon shredder.

So, uh, you aren't suggesting that the new show is harder to believe than the old one, are you? Or, are you just saying that you don't care for the show to remind you of a stereotypical sci-fi? If it's the latter, I agree. But, there are enough other themes involved that we can choose from (thank goodness). I liked the Utrom Shredder idea. I still don't see why it was such a big deal.

ORIGINAL COMIC SHREDDER!!!

Personally, I love both. Old toon Shredder's constant power struggles with Krang, and heaping his abuse on human Baxter, and having to put up with Bebop and Rocksteady...

But the New toon one is much, much more threatening, and muscular (The old toon one looked like a wuss... the action figure of him looked PA-THE-TIC!) And I like how it's become a title and was passed to Karai.

As long as it isn't movie 2 Giant video game boss type shredder...

Heh. I'm aware the term "realistic" is very tongue-in-cheek when it comes to TMNT. But you understand what I mean - all the spaceships and aliens and whatnot make it harder for me to suspend disbelief than if it were just products of a freak accident (namely the TMNT) fighting average stuff in a psuedo-real world. Sure, the mutation is dodgy, but if that's only one item on a shortish list of unrealistic things... it feels more like it could really happen. I dunno. I like it that way.

And ARGH I can't wait for the Lost Season DVD! Those of you who've seen the True Shredder stuff make me even more anxious for it... *fidgets*

Oh. I get ya' now. Just TOO MUCH sci-fi... It was either add bunches of sci-fi weirdness or be repetitious. But, I can see that they kinda' went overboard.

I think that's the overboardity I mentioned. I wish I had waited until the DVD comes out so I could see all 13 eps for the first time in one sitting. That would have made it feel better paced, but since I knew I would read all the spoilers and whatnot... It would just have made the concept feel a little more believable and a little less "woo magicdemonsuperturtlesletsfind allsevenTurtleBalls!" Someone else can tell the dirty joke I detected in there.

New. New new new new new. Hehe. I was never amused by the old one, even as a young person. I don't like 'silly'.

Even the new one, as an Utrom (though I prefer a perfectly human Shredder, I'll take the Utrom!!) was evil and... just... a mastermind. Plotting and all that. Not bumbling.

old toon. hands down.

Shredder from the old toon was a mixture of ego, humour, and genuiane lethal intent. There is no doubt in my mind that old toon Shredder was evil and capiable of cruelity. Because he did it in just about every episode of the series. Just because he had a high failure rate at most of his plans doesn't mean the evil he was doing was any less--er, evil. Most of the time he failed because he was eighther to egotistcal and got full of him self or the people that he was subject to be around (Rocksteady and Bebop) screwed him up.

I liked that he had a sence of humour, it took the edge off his evil and egotisical side, and actually gave him a personality. His humour made it so that he wasn't such an asshole that the audiance hated him. You actually liked Shredder because his humour smoothed off the edges of his more evil side. The last thing a cartoon wants is for the fans to hate their villan so badly that they want him off their screen. Old toon Shredders biggest problem was that the humour aspect of his character was emphised so much that it distracted the audiance to much from the truly rotten, cruel and evil things he was doing.

I mean was what Shredder did to Baxter Stockman in the classic toon any less cruel or violent than what New toon Shredder did to Baxter Stockman? Shredder pretended Baxter was like a son to him and mutated him into a fly. New Toon Shredder told Baxter that if he screwed up he'd pay the price and mutalated him. In some ways old toon Shredder was more messed up to Baxter. Baxter Stockman in the old toon was a weak willed person who was obviusly just looking for approval, and Shredder took advantage of that and messed with his head. And Baxter from the old toon was no match against that. New toon Shredder treated Baxter like a slave but at least he didn't mess with his head and at least new toon Baxter knew where Shredder was coming from.

I could make a list of all the other evil doings old toon Shredder did, with complete leathal intent behind it.

ok, In addtion to all the crap that he pulled in the first season, he was going to have the foot ninja kill Baxter.

In the second season He poisoned and nearly killed April.

He threw Baxter through the portal with out a care to what would happen to him.

He tried to kill Michaelangelo with a flesh disolveing mutangent, and made his brothers think he was dead.

There is more I'm sure but the point is that regardless of whether or not he succeeded or not the intention to do harm was there. Shredder might be new toon level sadistic but he wasn't exaclty a light weight.

Old school Shredder, at least with him it's just one person.

The new Shredder could give David Tennant's predeccesors a run for their money...

I'm going with the Old Toon version because that's how I know him. He's the Shredder I grew up with and that's a good thing. I feel Old Toon Saki brought a lot of humor to the cartoon; he was also voiced by James Avery -- my favorite voice actor for him.
