I don't even want to think about the possibility of a third movie.

It's a far better concept then mutating to whatever the last thing you touched. |

More like far more ridiculous. But knowing you, I'm not surprised you'd eat this up.

Guess what, everyone? I just had some tests done, and it turns out my ancestors were Sharks! Crazy right?!

Yeaaah, the "mutate into the last thing you touched" makes more sense. They could have gone with an "animal a human is most similar to" direction and even that would have been better. If they're going that direction, Bebop and Rocksteady should have turned into Australopithecus.

Also as loath as I am to say it the whole last thing you touched is better. I mean I'd rather it was more like the comics and pretty much every other version were the ooze evolved animals into a anthropomorphic form which is trope heavily steeped in classic fiction but the idea that you can somehow splice human and animal DNA even in the overly simplistic way the OT did it would have been better than the pandora's box this magic purple does things. |

I'm not sure if it's something I've glimpsed over in IDW, but how does it even work there? Is there already human DNA in the mutagen/ooze as it is (from the Hamatos, maybe? By Utrom handiwork?) and that's why animals can become anthropomorphic? Then the Foot retconned it with various animal DNA?

So we're possibly going super public?
A bit torn on that. On one hand, I'd be curious for TMNT to explore slowly expanding their circle of allies and working on becoming slightly more public and getting that acceptance in society they want. (And for their own benefit, too, as far as living arrangements - with the lair remaining a secret headquarters if no longer "home" - gaining better access to stuff, healthcare, etc.) SLOWLY. But I'm not sure I want to see that explored in this format... and if so, I'd rather it was slowly drawn out and did not come to an entirely public appearance until if and when it culminated in a much later sequel, IF it got that far. But this... this is far too fast. Too obvious that they may just be trying to rush it and do everything right now in case it's their last shot at it. It would be much more moving if they got that longed for acceptance several sequels later (were it to last as long as something like Transformers). Writers have zero patience in their so-called storytelling.Quote:
When really... we'd probably just all turn into intelligent, short versions of Big Foot. But that's not nearly as interesting, is it...Personally I have a hard time suspending disbelief to quite that extent. I can't get away from how far out of logic that goes. The Turtles are one thing, and perhaps there is genetic tampering there that added human to the mix. BUT it's not like one of them became like a human while another of them became more like a giraffe. (Because as fellow beings on Earth other animals, including Turtles, should then also have other creatures in their ancestry.) |

Out of curiosity what do you think is better about this? The whole idea that movies have to put a new spin on stories and characters is one of the biggest misconceptions Hollywood have ever pulled and it's consistently disproven by the many hugely successful comic book movies which succeed because they are faithful to the source. Look, I am by no means a huge defender of the 80s show but even they fell short of something portraying mutation as this easy and random. This and the idea that the turtles become public heroes opens a huge Pandora's box which can't easily undone when it turns out that even people excited for the movie don't even like it. |

But knowing you it won't matter cause as long as they throw all this CGI fan service in your face, it'll be a good movie regardless, right?

I've literally been studying genetics for a good portion of my school year and from a science stand point, this is illogical. At least the last thing touched concept while silly makes sense. Dude, give some reasoning for once please.

Also I'd argue that a movie is the definitive version of a franchise by default. TMNT isn't like Batman or Spider-Man with unlimited number of tries until they get it "right". Without hyperbole this could be the last word on the franchise, the one that defines what TMNT is in the eyes of public. It has a responsibility to not just be a different approach but the best approach. With that in mind I'll ask again; what exactly do you think is better about this approach than the others? |
