It's still quite popular, it's responsible for bringing TMNT back into the public consciousness in a big way (and has sold a lot of merchandise branded on the show), and was even nominated for a freakin' Emmy. The only reason I can think of for this if they are planning to end the show next year is to keep people interested in TMNT over a longer time. Basically to leave people wanting more, but dropping it before people get 'TMNT fatigue' and then have to shelve TMNT for a while. I don't know if this is their plan personally, but since they have another movie coming up, they might be doing this to keep interest from dying off, so as to deliver profits for the 2nd movie when it comes out.
