Next Mutation: How would you have done it?

A good number of us b*tch and moan about how awful Next Mutation was, but I was wondering, could we have done much better if we were in charge of the show? Which makes me ask, if you were transported back to the time when TNM was still in the making, and you were given *complete* creative control, what would you have done differently? What would you change? What (if anything) would you keep the same? There would still have to be a female turtle (just for the hell of it), but how would you have gone about creating one? Things like that...answers on a postcard.
