Damn, that sounds like a lot to me. I can think of like maybe 3 in WA that are worth a sh**, and WA is a fairly big state. Even rounding that way up and saying there's 10 per state now, that'd only be like 500.

I’m in Boston right now and there’s about 10 shops in driving distance of me. I bet there’s at least 10 shops even in POS West Virginia. I think 2,000 sounds about right.

I imagine that among that 2,000 figure are the 30 Newbury Comics stores, based in New England and New York, which devote limited space to the product which constitutes half its name.

In Massachusetts there is a chain called New England Comics, although calling it a chain is rather generous, especially these days. It had 8-10 stores at its height but now it is reduced to just 2. Those stores should still be going strong and the Brockton one does not seem to have dropped TMNT: Journeys. The report does make me wonder for the future of the line, Journeys is scheduled for only up to #16, one-half of TMNT Vol. 4. The 2nd half gets very expensive to collect in physical form.

I don't know why IDW decided to do solo releases of each Vol. 4 issue. Nobody in 2026 is buying single issues of a black and white TMNT comic with "weird" art. I imagine it doesn't cost much to reprint them but they are doing new covers they have to pay the artists for. I can't imagine them making much money back on these.
