To be quite honest, most high-profile fighting games have very complex backstories. That's why there are even plot guides for this stuff.

Those plot guides exist because it's impossible to make even the slightest bit of sense of those ridiculous non-stories without them.

Fighting game CAN have good stories, and a lot of them have a great mythology surrounding them, but by the time namco got to Soul Calibur IV, for example, everyone is just kinda like "Well, I guess I should probably go look for Soul Edge. Again." When you use the same characters over and over again like that (not that I'm complaining alltogether), the story is eventually going to stop having any impact whatsoever. I'm sure like King of Fighters is the same way.

KoF is kind of going in circles in some aspects, such as the whole "resurrecting Orochi" thing again... but it does have its twists, such as the fact that the protagonist of the saga, Ash, may or may not actually be the villain.

Street Fighter is in a rut because it keeps bringing back characters that for all intents and purposes should be dead, and with the lamest excuses. Bison was sent to Hell by the Shungokusatsu... now he's back in a new body provided by Seth. Gen was supposed to have died of Leukemia before SF1... and he's still around in 4, supposedly still looking to die in combat rather than of his ailment. Rose's body, for all intents and purposes, should have been destroyed after Bison briefly possessed her between Alpha 3 and SF2.

For a fighting game I thought Mortal Kombat Vs DC had a fun story. The voice acting was laughably bad at times but the story good. It was just a series of fights strung together by cut scenes so it wouldn't be hard to emulate that.

The four turtles and Splinter are all that is confirmed. Shredder was hinted at, but nothing concrete yet on him.

Actually, Gen and Rose aren't 'really' in SF4. Gen, Rose, Cammy, Fei Long and Sakura are just home version fanservice add-ins and have no real bearing on the story.

And as for the art style... well the TMNT and Splinter are set to be drawn movie style... but what about other characters that weren't in the movie like Shredder, Hun and Bishop or whoever?

I seem to recall reading that their stories all intertwined with the other characters' in the fully animated cutscenes and backstory OVA.

Weird... In that case, Gen should be dead of old age... Rose shouldn't exist anymore unless Seth made her too.... and Sakura should be a young woman. Fei Long and Cammy still fit though.

I could be wrong about the others, but I know for sure I saw Cammy in the animated cutscenes and/or OVA.
