Same here, in fact. Only Donatello was new to me.

What bugs me are people calling Raph, RALPH! UGH!!!!
I can identify on all points there. When I was reacquainted with Raph's weapons when I was about 11, I was determined to find out the name for them. I loved how unique the weapon looked out of all four turtles, and how they were handled as well. So now, whenever anyone says "forks" or "daggers" instead of "sai", that poor person gets an earful of what the proper name is, and how forks, daggers, and sai, are all different.

And that Ralph thing...ugh. I think it going to become a "trend", if you will, for poser TMNT fans. I have a good example from last week after some air head was ranting about the new TMNT movie.

Girl: "Like, ya, I am da BIGGEST Ninja Turtle fan of all time. Like, LOLOL!"
Me: "Alright then. Name the turtles off for me."
Girl: "Like, okay. There is Leo, Donnie, Mikey, and Ralph!"
Me: "...Ralph?"
Girl: "Like, ya! The red one? With the daggers?"
Me: "......... *thinking* Try not to strangle her, try not to strangle her..."

Haha nice. People who know I'm a fan always try to talk to me about turtles but don't know leatherhead, usagi, fugitoid, triceratons, or rat king. But they never seem to have a problem saying "BEEBOP AND ROCKSTEADY ARE AWESOME!" which is pretty much the extent of their knowledge of characters.

Hahahaha, dude, this stuff still pisses me off NOW.

Luckily, I was able to give a lecture to my college world history class yesterday about the turtles because we are luckily studying the renaissance! My teacher mentioned "Yes, they have the same names at the Ninja Turtles... *groan*.." then noticed I had my TMNT shirt on and started asking questions about them.

I honestly don't see how you can forget their names! Usagi, I can kindof understand, but Leo, Don, Mikey, and Raph?!

Oh! And about the sai/knife thing someone mentioned: There were various kinds of sai and some actually did have a blade in the middle. Not as common as the blunt form, but they did still exist.

Is it worse when people get the names wrong or don't know them at all? Take today for example. I work in a kid's bookstore a lady and her kid were there for storytime and I noticed the kid had Happy Meal Leo sitting there on the floor.

Me: Got Leo there?
Kid's Mom: Is that his name? We just call him Turtle Man.

Turtle Man? Turtle Man!?

Me: (politely) Yes, Leo. His name's Leonardo.

Sometimes, you gotta wonder.

How old was the kid? Better yet, how old was his mother? Because lets be honest here, she dosen't really have to care.

True. Kid was preschool age. Mom was in her 40s I'd guess. So one too old and the other too young I guess. Still, there used to be a time where you didn't have to watch TMNT to know who they were. I know it's no big deal in the grand scheme of things, even so you'd think he might be "Ninja Turtle Man" and not just "Turtle Man."

Kids used to do this all the time, I hated it. Most recent comparison I have is how my 7 year old cousin refuses to say Street Sharks... he says sea sharks...?

Reading this thread was funny because in my class at the elementary school I actually had to break up a little argument these three boys were having over what color and what weapon each turtle was and has. This one boys starts screaming "No the red one rides the skate board."
So this makes the other boy really mad cause I guess he must have been a Mikey fan.
Now I am just watching this leaving it alone cause they aren't pushing or anything but then they all turn around and one yells,
"Fine I am going to ask Ms. L" (Me of course )
So I straightened them all out...lol

That name is easy to botch when you're a kid though. You figure, you hit someone with them, they're going to be numb. It works.

Other than that though, every kid I knew was so into the Ninja Turtles that you got every other name right.

One of the few things I've geeked out on was someone claiming that Gambit was one of the first X-Men. As a huge X-Men fan I couldn't let that dude get away with that one, because he was claiming to know everything about the X-Men (if it was just some average joe I wouldn't have).

The sad part though is that people still say this to me. My friends don't know anything!

The Ralph thing still bugs the hell out of me. Back when I was a kid no one I knew was stupid enough to call him Ralph, but I see people on messageboards doing it all the time. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
