While all 4 Turtles have crushes on April, Donatello certainly has it the hottest for her.

That said, I do not think Donatello ever had a thing for Irma.

Doesn't anyone remember Green With Jealousy? In that episode, due to Krang's love potion, three of the Turtles (besides Donatello, who didn't ingest it) temporarily fell in love with Irma. Irma thinks that some human sailors have fallen in love with her and she is about to marry whichever one showed up first, but when she learns that it was three of the Turtlers instead, she runs off screaming in dismay.

April might not have been as butch as all the lesbian stereotypes, but she was certainly a tomboy/man's woman. I figure Irma is mostly responsible for the keeping in touch as April seems more likely to wanna 'run with the big dogs' which are predominantly men. So, if Irma wasn't in constant need of approval, would April even know her name?

Yeah I agree with Coola. Although one can never tell, maybe she ended up becoming a lesbian out of desperation. And as for ending up with Vernon, he was too into himself to ever be in any sort of relationship.

Vernon comes across to me as being metrosexual not gay. If any 80's toon character gives off that gay vibe it's Bebop and Rocksteady. I mean come on they're ex-convicts and stuck together even after prison. Something tells me they where shower buddies.
